Must win tomorrow!
-
Outscored 48-17 in the final 5 minutes of each half so far this season
-
@kjayhawks or 1,000
-
Well. This horrible start has made our opinions generally unanimous here #tryinghardtofindsilverlinings
-
@approxinfinity I’m usually pretty negative I’ll admit but what can we take from this disaster of a season. That we’ll have a new stadium that’s 1/4 full next season.
-
@kjayhawks yes. And they can charge four times as much admission to make up for the lack of fans that our coaches have alienated
-
This is nowhere near David Beaty era Kansas because KU was rarely competitive. A game like today against a conference opponent was a once a season deal.
This feels much more like the 2006 season KU went 6-6 and was about 5 plays away from being 10-2 that season. KU this season is about 3-4 plays away from being 4-0 right now. This is nothing like 10 years ago when we were begging for KU to just be competitive.
Because KU has had a 4th quarter lead in every game this season, Daniels and Grimes don’t deserve all of the blame, especially the last 2 games where KU had a lead with under 3 minutes left. That means that despite the flaws on offense this season, they’ve been good enough to give KU leads with under 3:00 left the last 2 games. The defense has to be better at getting key stops amd closing out games as well.
It sucks to not be able to close out games, but again, this is nowhere near Beaty era levels of bad and incompetent.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 This is worse. We have experienced success and gone woefully backwards. We will never again win a football game.
-
I concur although D has been put in very tough situations by offense.
When O got the ball around 3 min to go they could have iced the game with just one first down but they couldn’t do it giving ball back and momentum to WV

The defense was given an 11 point lead with 3:40 left in the game. That’s not a tough situation, but obviously the defense wasn’t up to the job today and deserve more of the blame than the offense for losing this one today.
-
@kjayhawks hey next Saturday we get to see Coach K play against Illinois, should be a moment to really reflect on Grimes vs K.
-
Also, Illinois beating Nebraska… that one may appear to be less of a bad loss for us on paper. Obviously, we gave it away.
-
I think we all can agree it was a team effort to lose this one. The offensive play calling has been absolutely garbage for much of the year. The defense couldn’t get stops when it was a must. But as I said the defense is allowed to screw up too with how ungodly bad the offense has been for much of this season. @Texas-Hawk-10 thats a very logical and fair assessment but I agree with @nuleafjhawk this is the worst feeling I have ever had as a ku fan losing by 40 to a more experienced and better team is one thing. Having 30 returning seniors from a 9-4 team up against one of the easiest schedules in CFB. This is unacceptable and changes need to be made
-
If Patrick Mahomes had attended The university of Kansas, he’d be selling paint at Home Depot now.
-
@nuleafjhawk idk it’s pretty clear he overcame some pretty god awful coaching in college
-
@kjayhawks Both suck for different reasons. This season sucks because they were expectations going into a season for the first time in about 15 years and each of these losses have come down to the final few plays so it’s more frustrating in that sense because of the emotions involved.
The Gill to Miles years sucked because we just weren’t competitive at all and apathy was the norm. The emotional detachment might make this seem worse, but I’ll always prefer having a chance to win over games essentially being over after the first quarter.
KU won 21 games total in those 11 seasons. Leipold has won 20 games so far at Kansas in 3+ seasons and is already tied for 9th on KU’s all time wins list and has a shot to get to 7th this season.
-
@nuleafjhawk If Patrick Mahomes was on KU we would be 4-0 right now.
-
@approxinfinity no, he would have morphed into football obscurity simply by being on campus
-
@nuleafjhawk lol
-
@approxinfinity if Cozart was QB we’d be undefeated right now
-
The silver lining is JD looked better today than he has. This was an L on the schedule preseason.
Small sliver of hope left.
-
@Kcmatt7 Not KU Godawful, brother.
-
Schedule does look easy still. Next 3 need to be wins.
-
So disappointing. Glaring mistakes from players and coaches to blow three winnable games. Still time to turn this around, but at this point… what we’re doing ain’t working, coach LL.
-
Oh boy, just got home. Couldn’t find the last 10 minutes on my DVR. Looked up the score at KUSports and well, crap. About to start to doubt Lance Leipold. I lack to brain waves to figure out how to coach the boys to hold an 11 point lead with 6 minutes left, but I’m thinking there’s got to be a way. I’m glad i didn’t watch. Would’ve been interesting to see what a difference the delay may have had. We were clearly rolling on Defense throughout the 2nd half until the delay, then they must have come out with their 2nd wind.
-
@wissox Agreed. We can bitch about Daniels and Grimes but it’s ultimately on the head coach.
-
Letting the QB run straight through the middle has been a problem before, IIRC.
-
Just looking at our schedule this morning, I think we win 2 games this season. Houston is our only chance at another victory.
-
@kjayhawks Happy days. Just a few weeks ago a lot of us dumbass fans were predicting one or two LOSSES.
-
@nuleafjhawk must we self flagellate so vigoruously?
-
@approxinfinity I’ve told you about using big words around me
-
I rarely disagree with you… but on this one, I blame the offense. KU has become a quality program mostly through our offense. We have several big-time tools on offense.
Yes, the defense lost away a two-score lead late in the 4th quarter. They were tired and without an offense keeping possession of the ball, they weren’t allowed to rest, and possession drains the clock making it impossible for them to score twice.
We didn’t need to score again while up two scores but we did need to secure ball possession. And our best offense so far this year is our ground game. As I mentioned above… two downs to make 3 yards (especially with Neal and Daniels) is an obvious situation to run, making a first down while also running clock.
My 11-yr old was even screaming at the TV!
-
@wissox yes I have lost all faith in LL, the team just doesn’t look well coached at this point. As I’ve said many times was AK running the show? We are so lost into many different areas. I will say most of those areas we lost coaches, the secondary, offensive line, QB and just over all coordinating of the offense looks terrible. Thats why I would’ve fired Jeff Grimes today.

We had an 11 point lead with 5 minutes left in the game. KU was also +13 minutes in time of possession with a 2 hour break at the beginning of the 4th quarter. I don’t buy for one second that the defense was too tired.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 he meant that the defense was tired of watching the other teams score
-
Players can get tired even within one series of downs from a ball possession.
Heck, teams are now realizing how to play against Chris Jones for the Chiefs. They are now saying to run the ball directly at him on the beginning of a possession, then run your pass plays on the next set of downs.
Even if they weren’t tired. We didn’t control the ball when we needed to… those last 5 minutes. That 3rd and 3 play was a mistake, and the OC called it. When we needed to control the ball the most he didn’t go to our strength, which was to run the ball. Two downs to pick up 3 yards? Really? Not only that, it stopped the clock.
The game is decided on both sides of the ball! First thing you learn when playing football.
-
@drgnslay respectfully, the first thing you learn is: this is a football .
I’m not sure we’ve figured that out yet.
-
@drgnslayr Go back and look at the play by play of KU’s drive after WVU made it 28-25. Devin Neal ran for a 3 yard gain on first and second down and lost a yard on 3rd down. KU ran it 3 times on that series and went 3 and out. West Virginia used timeouts to stop the clock after the 2nd and 3rd down plays, it wasn’t incomplete passes.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 all runs to the right. Pretty unimaginative imo. But yeah, you are correct.
-
@approxinfinity no idea why we didn’t turn the option to the long side of the field or try to pass WV secondary is weak and they had 2 guys go down. I keep snapping back into the inept of this staff.
-
Or if JD saw that it was wide open on the long side to fake to Devin the ball and run for the 1st down. The actual play for 3rd down was so vanilla and disappointing. Mr Magoo saw it from a mile away.
