2024 NFL Offseason - FAs, Trades, Draft

Meh, just read about it. No deaths or life threatening injuries. Dumb asses racing on the freeway probably.
Not expecting a major penalty. Fingers crossed though!
-
@rockchalkjayhawk - another issue is both drivers ran from the scene. I believe Texas law says you have to “render aid”. Running speaks to character. But - maybe Rice wasn’t driving or even there. I’ll wait for the police report.

Doesn’t look too terrible. However running from the scene of an accident where an injury occurs is a felony in Texas. - I’ll try to find more precise info on that, but basically the worse someone is hurt the worse the penalty, but even minor injuries can incur a couple year jail sentence if you run.
-
@dylans Not me - I copied and pasted from another chat room. Take it for what it’s worth.
——————————
Ok… just got off the phone with my brother and he works in Houston and Dallas with us both being attorneys. Yeah a family of all attorneys!
Soooo… with up to $200 worth of property damage before leaving the scene, they have committed a Class C misdemeanor.
maximum fine of $500 No jail time
An accident that results in more than $200 worth of damages is a Class B misdemeanor, which is
maximum fine of $2,000 maximum jail sentence of 180 days
Now this gets tricky…
More serious the accident was, the stricter the penalties for leaving the scene. A hit&run involving a “serious injury” classifies as a 3rd degree felony.
maximum fine of $10,000 prison sentence from 2 to 10 years
Finally, leaving the scene of a fatal accident is a 2nd degree felony or man slaughter.
Minimum fine of $10,000 and a prison sentence from 5 to 20 years
Now there were minimum injuries but whoever was involved with be hit with civil lawsuits of course. We both can see pleading down if the DA racks up a bunch of charges. Hopefully reckless driving and possible street racing. But who knows now.
-
Ok, cruising the top site for this kinda stuff (TMZ pays the best for source material)…these guys look to be absolute idiots. I’m still guessing Rice has a semi soft landing, but it now would not surprise me if it were harsher after seeing the scene.
I’m no expert, but dude in white could be Rice? Hair looks right, hard to say on face.
Lots of damage done to cars. I’m still guessing this pleads down to not much, but for sure civil suits coming.
Maybe he’s got a good excuse.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I believe it was reported that he was wearing the red bandana thing and the black shirt at the bowling alley earlier in the day. That dude in the white shirt is huge - looks like a football player, but Rice isn’t that big.
Hopefully this gets resolved today. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt.
-
Carson Wentz replaces Blaine Gabbert as the backup QB. Solid move. Gabbert threw too many picks to be a dependable backup.
-
They had an interest in him even last year, certainly an upgrade over Gabbert.
-
Looks like Clyde is back for a year. I’m fine with that. He can pound out a few yards.
Oddly JK Dobbins was in town today. Guessing he’s off the table now with Clyde back.
We really need a pass catching back.
-
Clyde’s a hero now!
-
Really need another RB with some pop, maybe a rookie. Clyde is ok for the 3rd option - fair blocker for someone so small, catches the ball well, slow runner, that can’t power for a yard though. I would like to see a bruiser to compliment Pacheco - perhaps that rugby guy will show out, but I think he’s know for being fast.
-
My boy CJ Stroud’s getting himself a weapon!! Texans trading for Stefon Diggs!
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I think Texans have improved most in this offseason.
-
Mike Dana is back on a 3 year deal. Veatch has brought back almost entire DL.
-
Dang, arrest warrant for Rice.
It’s hard to root for dangerously stupid people sometimes.
“The police report also said marijuana was found in both cars, as well as credit cards, a $16,500 check, a diamond chain and the playbook for the Kansas City Chiefs.”
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Damn it Rice
-
Good article on Puni’s fit with Chiefs, I’d love to see him get drafted and become a Chief.
-
@AsadZ The short arms won’t, I fear, work well at tackle. Teams scheme all types of ways to get to PM around the tackles, and I think Puni may not be fast, or quick, enough to avoid getting pulled too far out. Better at guard, where Creed and the tackle can help plug the holes. But there are lots of guard options available. We need a proven tackle, not a hybrid.
My suspicion on his speed is caused by the comment in the article that he only got rated in the jumping. Why not perform in speed tests (unless that info is available elsewhere, haven’t researched).
-
Draft day! It’s always a mystery who the Chiefs will take. My guess is WR, or they trade down into the 2nd round and load up on a few other picks.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I’ve all but given up hope for the Chiefs drafting a first round WR. It’s been on my wishlist for awhile. But here’s hoping!
-
Worthy. Hmm. He’s fast and can track the ball. Might work.
-
Looking good! ️
-
@dylans you got your wish!
He’s a super speedster, but dang he’s dinky. 165 lbs? A bit worried about that.
Hoping the Chiefs can also sign a WR with some size/overthemiddleweight this summer.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk how big is tyreek?

Tyreek is a muscular 195 I think. Who knows, maybe he’s fast enough to avoid getting hit!
-
Worthy is not Tyreek. Tyreek was a converted RB. Tyreek’s neck is thicker than Worthy’s thigh. I’m hopeful he can be more of a DeShawn Jackson type. Worthy was super fast at the underwear Olympics 4.21 forty (set the record). But he also showed his speed in games. Not just a speed merchant he stacks the DBs well to gain leverage and tracks the ball very well. Time will tell, but usually when Veach trades up it goes well (this trade up was to get ahead of the 49ers who had reportedly targeted Worthy).
-
@dylans I think he has better hands than Hill at this moment. I think this helps open up the middle for Rice and Kelce. Baring a huge suspension for Rice.
-
I’m really liking the first two picks and I think those are definitely gaps that need to be filled. I hope if Jones (OT Texas) or if Booker is still on the board they pick one of them up

I haven’t really watched him play much, but from what I’ve been reading drops are an issue.
-
The BYU kid apparently is all the rage!
May need a year to learn, but has the body and physical tool kit.

His sophomore year he had 7 drops, but he also had a broken hand. The other two years it didn’t seem to be an issue. I’d hate to watch another player drop balls like the WRs did last year!

Ahh, great. Fingers crossed. And heck no, we don’t need any more pass droppers! For sure looking forward to that blazing speed. The problem about not knowing much about these players is that I wanna know more about these guys, so I read the scouting reports. Those can be negative. I’m sure even superstars have dinks on those reports. But given his slight frame, which is a real thing, I’ll assume we’ll have to use lots of motion to get him free off the line at first. That’ll make him even more dangerous!
-
@dylans 7 drops would be a vast improvement from a WR core that lead the league in dropped passes. I think he only had 3 drops this past season, you are going to a few drops here and there unless you are Larry Fitzgerald.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk If DBs jam him and miss… TD. But it could also look a lot like Tyreek vs Sneed in the SB if he doesn’t add some muscle.
-
I’m anxious to see the rugby player.
-
The best draft guide I have ever seen is Dane Brugler’s “The Beast” on The Athletic. Hundreds of pages evaluating dozens of players with lots more background than most.
Anyway, by his rankings, KC has managed to pick up 4 of the top 89 draft prospects in this year’s draft. Including his no. 1 safety. In Veach we trust.
Worth the subscription even by itself, acc to many of us!

How would you grade Chiefs draft picks.
I give it B+
-
@AsadZ A fair grade, but I would go up to A- because they signed about 4 pretty strong guys as UFAs who were not drafted but were considered Day 3 prospects. Essentially the same as having 4 extra 6th or 7th rd picks.
-
@AsadZ I’m excited to see Worthy in that offense. Kingsley was projected to the Chiefs in the first round in several mock drafts. Wiley learning from Kelce is very intriguing. Hicks was a second round talent and a potential replacement for Reid in a year. Low round picks are always a flier, but the cb has excellent traits and Veach has a good eye for that position. The center can play the entire iol. The G prospect is just a guard, but ol depth is weak so he’s likely to make the team as well. It should be 6 of the 7 make the roster.
I could talk myself into an A or a C. In Veach I trust, it’s an A!

List of UFA signings:
Chiefs seem to be a magnet for guys looking to land a spot.
-
It will be curious to see how: Worthy, Mcconkey. Leggette and Coleman….who turns out the best.
Similar to when we took mecole and dk metcalf was available or when we got skyy moore and Pickens was right there
Hopefully we got more of a desean Jackson type in worthy
-
@kuballin10 who’s your horse? Worthy vs the field? I’d take the field too if I lived misery, but that’s just an odds play.
I’m betting on Worthy to ball out as he has the skill set to do well in this offense. Mecole Hardman had 800 yard recording in college and was a converted DB. Worthy had 2500 and was a true #1 receiver. Not a good comp.
Whiffing on DK was due to Hill drama and needing a speedy replacement - panic move and a bad one. No need to panic this go around.
-
Man that’s tough as Veach hasn’t gotten a wr right besides Rice being his first (whiffs on plenty).
I lean toward Worthy and think he will actually be a stud. As you said way different than converted db mecole.
Yeah Hill forced veach’s hand and you don’t bat 1000.0 in the draft so I get it.
Overall gotta trust the staff as they’ve done great these past 3-4 drafts and I think Veach has grown a ton in player scouting. He’s drafting smart athletes
I actually think Hill will be our next Tony G. Dude is big, runs/moves like Kelce and being a former qb is smart when it comes to diagnosing coverages. He won’t be Kelce as hardly anyone can be I think he will be a stud.
Overall this draft class should be an impact from day 1
Three peat time baby!
-
@kuballin10 Yeah I’m excited about Wiley too. Boom or bust I suppose, but a 4th rounder is not much of a gamble.
-
Uh oh. Rice under investigation for a nightclub assault. They say he walloped a photographer.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Damn, something I did not want to hear and see.

Nope. Dude needs to realize he’s got it good. Let your crew do the dirty work!
The suspension is getting longer…
-
Allegedly

Meanwhile, Kelce is hosting game shows, joining the cast of American Horror Story and in general keeping out of trouble by elevating his celebrity.
