Acuff can’t expect us to sit and wait…
-
@TYOHawk Sounds like Swain is hearing similar in his recent update on it. This visit could put pressure on Acuff to announce soon.
-
One spot, take or leave it
-
Won’t lie I probably prefer Peterson if we’re going that route.
-
Hmmm, doesn’t it seem a bit early for the top 2025 guys to be committing? Has the recruiting timeline changed with NIL and the portal?
My two cents: not gonna happen soon for Acuff and others. I’d love to be wrong of course.
-
Soooo this ploy might’ve had the intended effect
-
And FWIW, I don’t think KU is a major player for Peterson. Last I heard Nike was the choice. I don’t think it’s on the table but I’d also love for them to gauge the interest of a reclass for Peterson
-
Nike letting us get Acuff if true is surprising…

Gonna give them a shoutout. In the NIL era they’ve done a really good job of keeping us competitive with anyone. Flory is a great example

What makes you think Nike for Peterson? (Out of curiosity) It sounds like he was a big Kentucky fan growing up,
them getting ridCal moving on has got to change that dynamic a bit.Peterson signed an NIL deal with adidas in November of 2023. KU and Indiana both have shoe contracts with adidas. He plays on the adidas AAU circuit for Phenom United, a team based out of Ohio.

Bryson Tiller visiting KU again starting tomorrow. Unofficial visit as he already took an official during last season.

That was word on the street in the spring, that the Adidas deal was only for high school and he was going to get a big Nike deal in college. He had two Adidas and six Nike schools in his final 8 so that was a big tell. Then was going to visit all the Nike schools first until just recently announcing a KU visit
-
Peterson should be on campus today but it’s been quiet…
-
Any recruiting updates after Peterson? Acuff still mum?
-
Trending the right way for both but nothing is done. Still think 2 guys for 1 spot
-
Please get me Peterson

I think it’s a win win no matter if we can get one or another. However I think I would rather have Peterson, just think he is a more ALL around player
-
I’ll take Peterson if he’ll play the 2. Want a veteran guy running point with all the young guys getting minutes.

This is the goal imo.
-
Sounds like Peterson had a really good visit.–Think we are sitting well
-
-
@BShark - any further word on this guy or ???
-
@FarmerJayhawk why is it unlikely KU could get both Acuff and Peterson when they play different positions KU has the roster spots for both? Is it NIL related or some other issue?
How did Elmarko Jackson not transferring out affect Acuff’s view of KU?
-

KU is recruiting him, doesn’t seem super likely currently.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 for a long time the Petersons were saying he only wants to play on the ball, he’s a pure PG that can score, that kind of thing. So Peterson and Acuff couldn’t coexist in that case.
There’s definitely some uncertainty with Elmarko now post-injury, even when he comes back will he be ready for a big role? Or will it be more like pre-injury expectations for this year where great if he can be a nice bench piece and anything more is a bonus? The staff is definitely selling that there will be all the minutes at the 1-2 available and they can both play both spots. There’s not much of a chance they get both but have to shoot their shot.

Basically, plus Adidas going to bat here. They don’t want to lose him.
-
@BShark yep. And the big bonus is in no way precludes us from going after an elite PG in the portal

Peterson > Acuff - you all agree?
Acuff is a stud and be nice to have a legit pg but if the option is Acuff at pg and transfer portal 2 guard
Or
Peterson at 2 guard and transfer portal pg
Think I prefer option 2
-
@kuballin10 for sure. It’s a heck of a lot easier to get an elite PG in the portal than an elite wing. I know Peterson fancies himself a point but he’s just not going to be in college

OMG for once we agree lol --Yes me to for sure run Peterson at the two & then portal pg

Acuff is a fantastic player/pg , no doubt about that However I just feel we will be better with Peterson , I dunno just feel that he is just more of a COMPLETE player.- - -either way we win But just would prefer Peterson.

Pretty encouraging reports about Peterson’s relationship with Coach Self on rivals…

Meh neither Peterson nor Acuff will be in college long enough to be the face of anything and with Acuff it sounds like Calamari and Ark pockets won the NIL war there anyway. Depending on what we are trying to spend for Peterson I’d say we are likely overspending for a year as well. Their camps clearly want a bag and nothing else matters. They don’t give a hoot about KU. I’d rather push the chips in on the best transfer options then chase these high school kids that have only 1 goal in mind. Think about both of these guys for a minute, exactly where does Peterson think he fits here with the idea to be a point guard? Doesn’t fit at all

If Self wants to use Peterson at PG in 2025-26, what else does KU currently have? Elmarko Jackson coming back from a significant knee injury is all KU has right now.
Darryn Peterson is a future top 5 pick in a pretty loaded 2026 draft who’s only going to play college ball because that’s the best option financially. We also know Self probably won’t play him at the 1 the majority of the time, but at the 2 with plenty of chances to initiate the offense becausehe is capable. He’s also going to be better than any option there will be in the portal next season. With him already signed to an NIL deal with Adidas, KU isn’t paying the majority of his NIL deal.
He will have experience around him as KU will likely have Elmarko, Passmore, Griffen, and Flory in 2025-26, possibly AJ Storr as well.
A starting line up of Peterson, Storr, Passmore, Griffen, and Bidunga is a line up that can score from all 3 levels and run pretty much anyone off the court with pace and tempo.

Do you think the transfers don’t care about the bag? They are all focused on the bag or attempting to go pro. As much as guys like Gradey or CB dreamed about being at KU…they would rather be in the league. Thats the real dream for them.
