MJ injured or DNP-Coaches Decision?
We know Norm plays him a lot more than Self does so wondering if there’s an undisclosed health issue today.
Didn’t hear ANYTHING about injury- - didn’t see the floor for one second. - -Speaks volumes - -unless he did have some injury that was not brought out —if not think that sends a pretty clear message
-
KU 52.7 % FG - - 84.6 ft % - - 40.9 – - 3pt % - - -12 to’s - -& 7 blocks - -not a bad days work
-
@BShark probably claimed his back hurt at halftime like he’s done 60% of the games
I’d give up on him too if I was Self

Gonna be a lot tougher Game Saturday
Hope it’s Arkansas.
That is an interesting take. Would love to know why. (I’m not challenging your suggestion… just genuinely curious which team would be better for us to face.)

Illinois
-
Best thing that could happen is that the Ill-Ark game goes double overtime… But I would love to get some thoughts on why one would be preferred over the other.
-
Sometimes injuries aren’t always real, just an excuse for problems between coach and player.

The knee is fine, structurally.
-
@BShark gray matter issue it appears from afar.

I’d rather play Illinois. They take 25 3’s per game (47th) and only make 31% (335th) on the year. They’re also low on assists which means they don’t pass as much. Arkansas is also a terrible 3 point shooting team, but they prefer to shoot 2’s instead.

Illinois looks awful
-
@BShark I’ll take it
-
Council is very good. Wsu transfers did well, of course not getting the crap getting beat out of them or mentally worn down helps too!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 he was very interested in us, we didn’t make room. I’m sad about it.
-
KU shot 9-22 from trey, 41%.
Hope we don’t go cold in next game.
-
@BShark Norm -> starters
-
All starters in double figures today. Perfect. Exactly what we need.

Is Hem a Missouri fan now?
Gotta be honest here, a mizzou blogger saying something positive about BLM wasn’t on my 2023 bingo card
-
Had to work today but I’m glad we won. Rock Chalk
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich we were insane at work today I had it at my desk but watched about 4 possessions and checked the score a few times. Must have timed right because I never saw us trail or lead by less than 4 lol.
-
Just saw self interview on kuhoops site.
For someone who had an angiogram with 2 stents he looked good. However he just didn’t look like the coach we have come to know which is totally understandable.
Unless he has significant improvement in the next 1.5 days I just don’t see him coaching on Saturday.
-
@AsadZ that’s very worrisome for me. Arkansas will be a battle that’s probably gonna be decided by 5 points or less. Have we ever blown anyone out in round 2 under BS? Doesn’t seem like, as I always say the second game of the weekend always worries me. Rebounding and hitting open shots will be the key Arkansas towers over us can’t let them control the glass on the offensive end or it will be a long day.
-
@kjayhawks See if you can see the clip Perhaps I’m being a bit pessimistic

@AsadZ I say he looks decent

I’d say 50/50 at best but really not countin on it
-
@AsadZ Thanks for that link.
I’m not a doctor, but he seems a little mellow.
Can Dooley coach the game Saturday instead of Norm. I like norm, but he’s even mellower than mellow Bill. We need some fire on the bench.
-
Need Bill healthy. This sucks. I’d rather worry about basketball!!!
-
@DanR Don’t think it be Dooley because of w/e the heck his role is. So other options would be Case and Kurtis.
-
Not the best match up but a challenge we can handle if everyone gets involved. They are very good but not great.
I’m not familiar with the Illini this year but I’ve watched the hogs about 20 times. They don’t have a Jalen or Gradey or Juan or McCuller. They do have plenty of D1 pieces that make for a funny looking jigsaw. They scored 71 points on two assists. WTF? They play hard on their M2M defense. When they get hot shooting the ball they can beat anyone but can look like crap and shoot around 35-40. Not a three point threat very often. Good defender and rebounder in Black a 6’7" point guard who Gradey can’t guard. Smith, Jr can’t guard worth a darn but is super quick on offense and a mid range game but Juan can handle him. Ricky Council IV is a slasher and loves to dunk. Devo Davis is a fast guard who can play excellent defense but is a so so shooter. Jordan Walsh a lanky and tough small forward who is not a big scorer but a good defender who fouls a lot. All these will hurt you on the fast break if you turn it over or miss a lot of shots. Inside guys are twin brothers about 6’9 or 10’ who are athletic and good on defense who like to mix it up and get their points on put backs. All will hit you hard on defense. It may be a long night for Udeh and KJ but we always say that. They will try to get to the rim and draw fouls. I just want to see the Jayhawks handle them and see if they can handle us.
-
Arkansas tried to let Illinois back in that game. When they play to their ceiling they are very good but they are so young.
-
It took me 300 words to say the same thing you just did. Lol.
-
Unless Bill is at 100% I’d not suggest him to coach.
For continuity I’d go with Norm. He has done well in Bill’s absence.
Mellow stance may work well when players are under pressure and shots are not falling, especially in the tourney.
Now it is all hands on deck approach with players taking more responsibility and play with a chip on their shoulder for their HC.

@kjayhawks 2017 Michigan state and 2013 UNC.

More then 30 Coaches were asked whos’ the bee’s knee’s for coaching (best big game coach). Self received 15 votes as the top dog, 10 1/2 more votes the 2nd place Matt Painter. Basically, everything we know and love about Self is also loved by his peers.
