Transfer Rumblings
-
@kuballin10 yeah its too bad Self wasted time on other mid major players like Frank and Devonte. What clunkers!
-
@FarmerJayhawk Ok. My point is it’s like constantly hiring and training new employees, no matter what occupation. It’s expensive and time consuming. In my opinion there needs to be a limit to how many times a student athlete can transfer unless they absorb all the costs.

@kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:
@BShark I’m hearing he is a complete nut case
Yeah he is a bit crazy.
Tomorrow may have been premature but Bill should be taking a recruiting trip to Florida soon-ish.
-
@nuleafjhawk ok, I’m just saying scholarships and where that money comes from hasn’t changed in either of our lifetimes.

Listened to a little piece in transfer portal pod cast - -all about Zeke Mayo last ed like 7:30 .
Basically talking about best fit and saying if Zeke came to KU— what would he play along Juan at the 2 ? - saying they think that would be a bad fit, and saying if your Zeke mayo what would you rather do , play the two along Juan OR play on ball? - saying if they were Zeke they think on ball would be a better fit… They did say he could play the two - -that he was a bucket getter shot well.
Then again posed the question ok if your Zeke you play either along side Juan OR would you rather play on ball at the One with Tang and K/State looking at the success that Tang have had with Marquese Nowell and then Perry this year. – If Tang told him they wanted him to come play the One. Then they ask about any other possible fits , and said maybe Florida would be a good fit - -possibly Auburn - -then asked at the end of the day where they thought he would land- - both said even with everything else they thought he would end up at KU.
Guess he is good friends with Devin Neal - - home town kid - -grew up going to KU basket ball camps , pretty close to another kid but dammit can’t remember the name- -going to be interesting
-
@jayballer67 if he came here, he would likely be Juan’s back up IMO so unlikely he ends up here
-
@kjayhawks the selling point would be 20 minutes of off the ball scoring and shooting with 10 minutes of on the ball point guarding. An opportunity to show versatility that might interest the league. All while playing along side a big who demands doubles opening up shooting opportunities for you.
-
@benshawks08 William and his pets
Zeke is better than Juan and should easily be given the keys but nope not even lebron is the best pure pg in America
-
@approxinfinity Those guys proved it at this level for sure….d2 proved this year and many others he’s a better fit for mo st
-
@kuballin10 how many games has zeke won? How many titles?
-
@kuballin10 i was referring to what you said about Self….
his eye for talent along with the assistance isn’t strong.
-
Don’t remember if I mentioned Micah Peavy yet but I think he is on the short list currently.
-
@kuballin10 it would be impossible to say Zeke is better than Juan at this point. If the staff thinks he can push Juan for minutes bring him in. Competition makes everyone better something that escapes this generation.
-

That is totally asinine.
Is there anything fart knuckles likes about KU basketball? Perhaps he has a crush on Jeremy Case and feels like Bill is in his way. Oh wait that’s one of the assistants or is Bill providing the assistance?
-
As the transfer portal looms large, Bill Self basically is KU basketball. If you dont like him youre in a tough spot.
Also i think its fair to say that other coaches have recruited better but lots of factors go into that. I dont think eye for talent makes the top 10 gripes about Self list for me.
-
Yepp he’s a fit here. Great depth piece to have at the 3/4
-
I do think he and his staff need to really focus on what the portal can get them and make adjustments to recruiting portal players.
Never should there be only 1 ball handler on the team.
Never should you have only 1 reserve big.
Never take a transfer with questionable character, ever. Vet it, get it right.
-
@benshawks08 You really bringing a team argument when trying to compare two individuals games?
Man glad Brett Veach didn’t think like you when drafting Patrick Mahomes “man he hasn’t won in college like Deshaun Watson so we can’t take him”
-
@kjayhawks Actually it’s not……if you flipped players on teams do you think Juan could perform like zeke has with the ability to actually lead a team, score and carry the load? The answer is no way but I guarantee if you told zeke to focus on defense, distributing and shoot the open 3 @ the 39% clip….Zeke could do that.
The team can easily replace Juan because he isn’t the best pure pg in America
Zeke - 18 ppg, 5.7 boards, 3.5 apg, 1.1 steals, 3.1 turnovers (happens when you try to score and make things happen….see d2’s performances this year)
Juan - 8.5 ppg, 2 boards, 6.5 apg, 1.5 steals and 2.4 turnovers
I’d take 3 less assists but 10 more points guaranteed every night. Surround zeke with Hunter and kj and I guarantee you his assist numbers would increase to 5/6 a game.
What Juan does assist wise isn’t some drive and dish thing…it’s pick and roll hit kj for a dunk or Hunter for the elbow jumper….thats what dudes 40-50 run at the ymca every morning.
This fan base is so warped because Bill is so stubborn that he can’t be wrong on his scout of Juan yet he is. He’s gotta praise him over and over more than any other player.
I remember he was at top golf talking about how great Kian is and oh nba scouts see it in practice…what a bunch of fodder. If Juan played 35 mpg in 2022 we get bounced to creighton. Bill’s revisionist history is brutal for the program right now
-
@kuballin10 It’s a team sport my man. It’s not all that matters, doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. And an individual’s impact on winning is much more significant in basketball than in football. you are 1 of 11 on a football field but only 1 of 5 on a basketball court.
-
@benshawks08 Remy won us that title because stubborn Bill played him 20 mpg
We aren’t getting the pac 12 player of the year to sit the bench nor will juan not start
We are in the same position next year
Juan has been responsible for 3 round of 32 losses two which are blowouts. Want to talk about the offenses he ran on those teams?
Mason and Graham would never have let that happen but yeah let’s talk the d2 pg up because he stepped on the line on a simple in bounds about blowing all of remy’s work the final 12 minutes with clutch shot after clutch shot when ochai shelled up being locked down by a freshman off the bench….
-
@kuballin10 Your right. I see dudes at the y run pick and roll and drop a perfect lob over their shoulder while moving the other way all the time. Lol. I see them jump out of bounds to create angles to give their shooter on the wing an on the money pass right in the shooting pocket once a week!
3 less assists for 8 more points a game plus a turnover is essentially a wash. 3 assists = 6-9 points.

This is a new argument that I’ve never heard from you before. Did you just come up with it?

Zeke turns it over like crazy in the SUMMIT league. He is not a PG at the Big 12 level period.

Just a reminder…the “Block” button is your friend.

@mayjay where’s the fun in that! Lol

I’m not a fan at all. This would be darn near Arterio level baffling for me if he ends up here.

This post is deleted!

Given his four options it sure seems like coaches think there’s a lot of potential there.
ETA: 17.3/49.6/ 39.6 points/FG%/3% in SEC play as a frosh. If you get that dude he’s a lottery pick
-
@BShark Yeah that .7 turnover differential compared to Juan is just horrible…I mean do you even check the facts or just roll with your fake narrative?
-
@benshawks08 You ever play ball before?
Juan leaving his feet under the basket to throw a pass to the corner is not what William would attribute to a good or fundamental play
-
Close to predicting Kansas here. Wild shit.
-
@BShark for whom? Riley Kugel?

Yeah. Don’t love it but the talent is there
-
What are the red flags people are talking about with Kugel?
-
@Woodrow On the court his performance was terrible. Huge regression from the end of his freshman season while he committed 2 turnovers playing only 23 minutes. That said he’s got a NBA tool kit
-
AJ Storr from Wisconsin is officially in the portal. Now that is where we need to be looking.
-
@Woodrow said in Transfer Rumblings:
Fighting with coaches/team mates, mentally checking out after losing his starting spot. Stuff like that.

Rumor is Illinois is the early leader. Iirc he is from Illinois.
-
Storr is also going through the draft process so this one could drag out for a LONG time even if he does commit somewhere
-
Do you guys get the sense that the staff is working hard + smart this portal season?
-
@approxinfinity said in Transfer Rumblings:

Hard yes, smart impossible to say until it is done.
-
@approxinfinity it’s definitely a shotgun approach but they’ve identified lots of needs and types of guys that could fill those
-
@BShark Why would anyone want that on their team? How many times does a person magically mature enough to not bring that toxicity with them?
-
@BShark That program is on the rise….Underwood spent extensive time with Jay Wright that’s changed who/how he recruits and has adjusted his offensive style. His team this year is by far better than ours because of it and he lost some last year to the portal…quite the reload and they took to this new system quick……
Wish Bill would adjust
Underwood I think takes the reins when Self leaves if he can get to a final 4 or two at ILL
-
@patoh3 I might disagree with @bshark on random bs about coaching ect but if bshark says a dude is trouble you better listen up.
He was spot on with Morris and it bit us in the @$$
And he’s saying it again with Kugel….youd think Bill would learn
@bshark get on staff cause someone needs to tell these guys we don’t need quitters and turds
