@kuballin10 yeah the combine is the big X factor. My guess is a 4 (whether that’s Nelson or a big wing) and a developmental big. Eat 2 of the penalty this year and give us more flexibility over the next couple years. We have 9 players now, 2 more makes 11
This makes a ton of sense though I think Bill would fill the last one. You only really need one more real guy (for that big wing spot) and then post depth.

OH NO KJ TO MIAMI

Always get a good chuckle out of articles like this.
-
@FarmerJayhawk It looks like the guy in pink slid into a 6” spot between seats. Lol poor guy is wedged in there!
-
-
Are there actually any names being linked to KU right now or is Self waiting for players to withdraw from the draft before pursuing any other players?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 only Grant Nelson at the moment. Haven’t seen any others.
-
Notably there is a dead period from May 18-26 so if we are going to see another visitor soon it will need to basically be the first half of next week. Starting Tuesday at the latest if they want a full visit.
-
How many scholarships are left? 4?
- Juan
- KJ
- Dickinson
- Timberlake
- Morris
- Elmarko
- CJ
- McDowell
Did I miss anything?
-
Have to think KU gets involved with Kaluma. Have to think they try to with Nelson.
Would love to see us get involved with Julian Phillips.
Nkamhoua Is intriguing.
They need a big and a wing still who will play. But everyone wants to start. Hard to find guys willing to come off the bench these days

Arizona is in deep with Kaluma.
I think Phillips and Nkamhoua are both Guandong Tigers but there is a slim shot Phillips would return to college.

Man there just isn’t much left. Chatter with Kev, but I’m not buying. Crazy to think we’d have so many open spots at this point.

So, what happens if a player enters the portal and doesn’t get an acceptable offer for whatever reason. Can they stay, or once they enter the portal do they have to leave?
-
@BShark Well that sucks……
Holding out hope for a stud 3/4 pulling out of the draft.
Any chance at the Utah Valley kid? Assuming he wants to start.
Seems we are fairly set at the 1, 2, 3 and 5 spots (not that Bill looks at it that way anymore).

Could be wrong bUT , I think - -I think , they could always go back. Yet I am not 1000 % sure

You can withdraw and return to your original school if there is a spot there. It’s happened quite a bit already.

I think the big will be more of a project.
The big wing will ideally be a rotation guy with a very real role.

You hering anything about the kid from Marshall?- you know if there is any kind of interest there ?
-
@BShark Hope we pull Emanuel Miller or Nelson - pipe dreams but either would be better than Mgbako or at least more proven.
I really want KJ to play the backup 5 role with Adam’s at the 4 spelling whichever stud nba draft dropout we get.
Seems that Juan, Morris/Elmarko and Timberlake are set 1-3 with Hunter at the 5
-
@BShark If we get Nelson what’s our starting lineup?
-
@kuballin10 Juan Terio Timberlake Nelson Hunter

I admit not knowing much about anybody but Juan, but that lineup does not scare me if I’m an opponent.

That lineup BETTER scare you or anyone else a little lol. - -Timberlake & then NELSON - -& HUNTER - -if that trio doesn’t scare you a little then let me have some of what your taking cause thats some good stuff - -might want to take little numbing meds to cause that trio could give you a beatin
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I like it a lot with the caveat that there’s some projection involved. You know what you’re getting with Juan and Hunter. Morris is already a very good defender, and shot it very well in league and postseason play. Timberlake is a bucket, especially as a supporting character. Nelson’s efficiency wasn’t great, but NDSU also didn’t have any guards. He led them in scoring, rebounding, blocks, and assists. The hope is the efficiency numbers get better playing with real guards and a dominant center. The worry is defense but that’s two solid rim protectors and two very good guards.
-
Lineup projection is A national champion point guard. A word, I mean woman beater guard. A thirty year old guard. A college stud center with zero social awareness. And a player that is not signed and is in draft tryouts currently. Weird looking lineup. Chemistry will be important.

Thanks for the insight, Farmer. Yup, mostly it’s the unknown for me. Hunter i expect to be good, but his teams didn’t exactly tear it up.
I for one just don’t get too excited when dudes from D12 schools transfer in – we can’t expect miracles there from them at this level. Maturity is great. we could use that.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk thank you kindly. It’s tough. I’m admittedly not the biggest Timberlake guy. I think he’s pretty limited except for perimeter shooting at this level. I’ll be really interested to see how Nelson tests this week. If he tests poorly it becomes a real question whether he can actually play the 4 at this level or is athletically limited to the 5
-
Time to turn on the NBA combine this week i guess!
Stay tuned for the drama that ensues.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk interested to watch Kevin too. If he blows it there’s a decent chance he comes back
-
Zuby to St Johns

that would be solid if he did, yet I just thought he didn’t want to come back ? - -I know Coach tried to talk him into coming , he would at least for sure help defensively
-
@jayballer67 he definitely doesn’t want to, but it’s not always up to him

good lord. I was afraid some team would fall in love and guarantee him a spot in the 30’s or 40’s

So Zuby lands at St Johns & lots of talk about Udeh to Duke. Pretty good landing spots for the guys that had a hard time getting and staying on the floor. here at KU - really happy for both & wish nothing but the best for both
I know the Duke fans are all giggly over themselves about the chance of landing Udeh --they are all wanting him bad. - They also got Jeremy Roach back I guess - -they are LOADED - -I mean LOADED. They was all talking about all 13 of their players being Scholi players no walk ons --talking about how some of their stud freshmen stars going to be having to come off the bench

That’s hilarious but not a bad get. I thought we were gonna offer the youngest brother a PWO spot.

I’m hoping walk-on here.
As for Landon I think Omaha took him to get the Stubblefield kid.

Considering St. John’s coach is the only other active coach to win multiple national titles, and with how he’s rebuilt the roster this offseason, I really wouldn’t be shocked to see the Storm make the NCAA Tournament next season.
