2023 Transfer Portal
-
Some talent joining the portal already from smaller schools. Nothing that I would say should be a priority. I fully expect this staff will only focus on players from P5 and the bigger schools when the time comes.

KC kid, would have a year because of covid. Not in the portal yet I’m just spitballing.
-
I was intrigued with him at one point, has certainly become a pretty good 3 point shooter with 200 makes in his career, good for 39% in 4 years. Admittedly haven’t seen him at all this year but the numbers were solid enough where he might be worth a look
-
@BeddieKU23 Yeah if he enters the portal we should inquire. Fits what we are looking for.

Just as long as we don’t miss out on the occasional jewel at a Towson St or an Appalachian St. Ya know?
-
@bskeet I actually feel like we saw small school players translate to P5 basketball pretty well this season. Something the staff should keep in mind.

Pastner was just fired so this guy should be available. Not a three point shooter at all but when has that stopped Bill.
-
That’s a good point, there will always be exceptions. Joe being a recent one from Drake.

A couple real dudes will be available soon.

Elijah Fisher in the portal from Tech
-
Sky Clark, Devin Ree & Kamari Lands all in the portal. Former top 100 kids
-
Ole Miss freshman guard Amaree Abram in the portal. He was recruited by KU last year down the stretch before going elsewhere. Avg 8ppg.
A 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard out of Port Arthur (Texas) Abram appeared in 33 games and averaged eight points, two rebounds, and two assists for the Rebels season. He plays with a “win at all costs” type of mentality and has a very serious and mature approach to the game. On both ends of the floor, he is relentless and displays an incredible amount of toughness.
He has an attack-first mindset and is always looking to make high-effort plays on the defensive end. Abram is naturally more of a scorer than a passer who has a little mix of everything in his scoring bag. He can get to the rim, finish through traffic, nail the jumper off the bounce, or score with the in-between floater.
-
@BeddieKU23 Shot .364 on 107 attempts too… Would say he will probably be able to score the ball in the next couple of years.
Probably could do better. Probably could do worse.
-
@BeddieKU23 I’d be very in on Skyy Clark if he didn’t basically quit midseason.

Waaaay too much drama here but yeah the player involved is certainly good.
-
@BShark The only benefit of the doubt I can give him is that Underwood seems like a horrible guy to play for. Even Kofi tried leaving lol.

Then Kofi said “I think I’ll play in the Japanese B league over playing my SR season”.
-
Don’t think he would have lasted at KU either imo. Underwood is something else. Not my cup of tea. Some of these kids go into situations they can’t handle the coaching.

Interesting that Abram’s pretty much played similar to his High School eval as as a freshman which I like to see. Has great size at the guard position and did pretty well playing for an SEC overcast. I’m intrigued, however I’m not sure we’ll look at him given our other needs

Think it’s been mentioned he is in the portal. Hope we inquire.
-
Spencer Jones + Brakefield and Self has a FF roster. No idea who we will actually go hard for but I’m excited.
-
@BShark Can Brakefield transfer again without sitting?

Seems to be that the answer to that is always yes these days but definitely something you want to be sure on.
-
@BShark I’ve officially watched the tape and yea I’m sold on Brakefield as like a top target.
-
Yes
-
@BShark It probably doesn’t mean much, but I like that he’s a lefty in the actions we run on offense. Makes you much more of a threat on both sides of the court when you have a guy who can drive the ball with his dominant hand going left.
-
There was a point in Brakefield’s recruitment where KU might have been the leader. Then he was all Duke and never looked back. We certainly have familiarity with him. Assuming the coaching change will give him a clear waiver on his next stop.
-
I still think the bench is a bit of a mess. Absolutely no scoring on the bench basically no matter how I look at it. We need to find a guy who can be a spark off the bench.
-
Sold on Brakefield. 19 PER, 65% on 2’s, 35% from 3, 73% from the line, rebound and assist numbers up. He’s poised for a breakout year next season.
-
Sounds like we might be after Harrison Ingram when he enters the portal…

Yep. Fits the profile of what we are looking for and a Southern Assault AAU kid. Makes a ton of sense.

I like the fit. Nice Jalen replacement as a 4…
-
For those that don’t follow as closely some former Southern Assault guys: Darrell Arthur (technically he was an alum of one of the two that merged into SA but lots of the same people), Gethro (RIP), Jossell, Jalen. The director is a close friend of Bill Self.
ETA: Make no mistake we raised the profile of Gethro (RIP) and Jossell by having them on the roster for a year. Worked out for everyone while we were in a recruiting lull.
-
Louisville is stacking up their roster. Make or break year for Payne ahead.
-
-
JJ Starling in the portal from Notre Dame. Yes and yes
-
Lampkin officially in
Robert Jennings is the 3rd Tech player to hit portal

Syra and cuse
-
@BeddieKU23 getting rid of Adams didn’t seem to help much…
-
Tyler Nickel in the portal from UNC.
@dylans yeah expect more attrition coming
-
Thinking the O/U on attrition is 5.5
-
@FarmerJayhawk wow
-
-
@BShark KU
-
@FarmerJayhawk Hmm. I’d say 5.
-
Assuming this doesn’t count pro guys ie Gradey/Kev/JWill.
-
@BShark Cuffe, Cam, and Zach seem like locks to leave. I ultimately think Bobby finds a different level to play at.
The rest I don’t have a good feel for. Like I don’t understand why Zuby would leave. I can’t imagine that his camp expected to play big minutes in year one with Zach and Udeh on the roster.
Rice I could see moving on, but I think it would be a mistake on his part. He’s got a chance to play big minutes next season. I really hope the staff can find a way to keep him.
Joe should be put out to pasture. Just not at KU level guy, but if he likes it here I don’t know how you get him to leave lol.
-
@Kcmatt7 Locks to stay Juan/KJ/Zuby/Udeh. The rest are up in the air or locks to leave IMO.
-
@BShark that’s total. I don’t think there will be a mass purge, much to the chagrin of our fans

Well 5 puts us at no transfers in which I doubt because we have no wings.
