Good thread here.
Also he was very adamant there will be no FR redshirting this year.

Cool. I read Self’s comments.
I’m sure happy he thinks Wilson and Dajuan are looking like our best players. An improved Dajuan helps a lot.
But after Wilson, I pray we have another guy who looks like our best player. Gradey or MJ or Zach or somebody else needs to step up to the big boy table for us to have another great season.
scoring and shooting could be an issue early on with the new guys.
-
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s our defense that struggles, especially post defense/ rim protection. I want to see what Zach offers and I’m extremely high on him but it’s been a while since we had to rely on a post player that didn’t play a lot the previous season. With how much that position impacts the game on both sides for KU it’s one of my big concerns for the season
-
Encouraging to see the freshman bigs are ahead of schedule but he is also concerned about post scoring and defending which I think will take a while to see consistency there
-
I don’t care who looks best in preseason practice. Studs show up during the season!
-
This will be a very entertaining year for our bigs. I honestly couldn’t predict who will start, if any.
I wonder at the big spot if Self will just use KJ, Zach, Udeh and Zuby any given day and say go bat shit crazy until you foul out. fouls to give. be aggressive!
-
Yea we have the players to score at will this year. Question is if we can D it up.
Bill will get that right though. We were talking about how the defense wasn’t good enough at times last year to win it all… and then Bill waved his wand and poof. Banner.
-
I will be shocked if Zach doesn’t start.

Remy at least trying in the tournament on that end was neat.

I liked what Coach said about the bigs- he has 5 that could all get minutes, but he prefers someone to step up and get the lion’s share of minutes at the 5.
-
Bruce Weber has been hired as a TV analyst for college basketball. What dolt thought people want to hear that voice explain anything? His players left in droves, I wonder what the viewers will do…
-
If they stick him in the Big-12 I will never take the mute button off
-
The Squeaky Stream…
Is this a news flash from The Onion?
-
Sending him back to the B10. Not sure who’s idea it was to put that dude on TV, but good for him I guess. One of the least likable guys to ever walk a sideline.
-
Thankful its not us.
Over/under of Self backhand slights in his first broadcast is set at 10
-
Won’t watch. I value my dog being calm and rested.
-
Guessing the TV wonks are computing how much makeup they will save on Bruce. Won’t have to add color to that bright red face.
Over/under on how long he lasts before making some completely offensive statements generating mega complaints.
Big 10 hasn’t won a NC since 2000… Bruce went to the right conference.
-
Still can’t believe they hired him. But then again fran got a job.

Find someone that loves you like Bill loves Dajuan.

Somehow missed this but you won the internet this week!

Part of Bill Self’s success has to relate to how he supports his players. When he praises them, he knows HOW to praise them (specifically). When they screw up he knows how to address their issues and doesn’t make it a personal attack.
Do we all realize how fortunate we are to have Self at KU?
-
We probably don’t realize how lucky we are, but we know there’s no better person for the job then him.
It’s amazing how far out of his way he’ll go to recognize certain players that haven’t had the best deck of cards thrown their way & the respect that those players earn from him. He finds a way to separate the game and make it about the individual that is almost uncanny. He does such a good job that he makes fans like us really feel and connect to their story. We’ve seen it time and time again over the years from T-Rob, McLemore, Jamari, Juan & others I know I’m forgetting. Bill is a saint, what else is there to say that hasn’t been said about him already.
-
And he tries to always see the positive on players… even players that leave our program unexpectedly.
He really is a “player’s coach!”

@BShark that’s why I’m a big fan! Those guys have my ! Although his family has had devastating losses, I believe God has placed special mentors in his life. Benny Mac and Mari were also guys that had very rough times. Ben was excited to have his own bed, hot water and food. He loved school. I hope Juan can score more this yr and make money somewhere.
