Yeah there’s a lot going on here. Bossi posted in 247 premium and he is hoping to interview him. Apparently there is strong mutual interest between Williams and KU.

Mikey Williams will likely go to an HBCU. His parents are both HBCU alums I believe. He wants to bring more attention to HBCU’s in basketball. My guess is he lands at Hampton if he plays college ball at all.

You assume we all follow as closely as you do. Who is Mikey Williams? I mean I could look it up but posts like this just assume we know about everyone.

Staff has been on him for a while. It’s a gamble but he’s the athletic combo that Self loves. Was an adidas kid in HS before the Puma deal.

5 star Guard in the 23 class. Has a huge Social Media following (millions), also has a PUMA deal so that complicates things as far as eligibility & the shoe war game. Was thought to be a lock to skip College due to his fame & what not but now the Williams are saying College is the preferred route for him. KU has behind the scenes shown a lot of interest which seems to be reciprocated from sources around his recruitment.

I’m pretty sure this is all talk at this point. Adidas would have to buy him out to play at KU. With the cash Puma is paying him he could outfit an entire HBCU program with Puma gear. It’s good PR to be talking about heading to KU, but I don’t think it makes sense for either party given the economics.

@BShark No doubt but even in January at Hoophall we were the only school he was naming that was recruiting him hard. There’s genuine interest from both sides…it’s getting out of the Puma deal that makes things complicated.

I just wonder maybe if Bill & the boys don’t try to get things working in our favor. I guess it we are suppose to be in pretty deep with him. Would be interesting.
I’m sure though it would be plenty of fuel for opposing schools though say that KU was once again trying to be shaddy

How ? no Farmer I’m just playing with you - - You always give good info and don’t EVEN want to do any thing to jepordize that - -always depend on you. - Yet bottom line is if we can some how get him to come , things worked out straight up for us - -would be awesome.

Wasn’t Mikey the consensus #1 player in his class a few years ago? Now I see where Rivals has him as #20… Has his development just stunted or what? Seems like he was a can’t miss prospect and now maybe not so much. Not saying he wouldn’t be a great get, but it just seems like some of the shine has come off of him.

I think part of it is that he stopped growing. You have to be pretty incredible to be the consensus #1 player in your class at 6-2. Just looking back over the last several years, Cole Anthony and Collin Sexton seem to be the only guys under 6-4 to be ranked in the top 5 since 2017.
If Mikey Williams was 6-5, he’d be top 10 for sure, probably top 5. But smaller guards just don’t have as much upside unless you’re Derrick Rose (high school) athletic or Kyrie Irving skilled.

I asked on that and it seems nobody knows anything about his recruitment. They’re saying all the right things about playing college ball but who knows how the Adidas/Puma thing will get sorted out or what numbers the G League will throw around.
That being said, I wouldn’t be crazy surprised at a commitment because nothing has made any sense so far here ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I have to imagine that Puma wouldn’t be dumb enough to have him skip college and gain a following. Let him play in Adidas for a year and then pick up that contract where they left off.
At the same time, I have to imagine that Adidas is smart enough to let him wear whatever shoes he wants as long as he is dunking in an Adidas uniform. This is a small hurdle imo.

I don’t know that it’s KU, just that he is committing somewhere. It was publicly put out there.
Now, it would seem KU is in as good a spot as anyone but there are definitely hurdles.

No offense to the guys but I’m not letting Cuffe, Yes and BPJ stand in the way of that. If Mikey wants to come you accept the commit & figure things out later.
