No matter what team you pull for

@mayjay The article is spot on, it put more salt on the wounds, truth hurts.
It is a pity.

Singer has been become an ace, rest of the starters have been mediocre at best.
I think you will find this article interesting about the Royals’ trouble developing pitchers:
https://theathletic.com/3591699/2022/09/15/kansas-city-royals-pitching/
That Carlos Santana-for-Wyatt Mills trade sure didn’t work out, even if the Mariners had to pick up a big chunk of his paycheck. Salary dump?
Santana just hit two more HRs today, including a grand slam. 15 since the Royals traded him in midseason.
(And he’s still not hitting .200. When somebody trots out the old cliche “All he does is hit home runs”, they’re not kidding. )
-
Moore is finally fired today, JJ to take complete operational control.
Will he keep Metheny and other coaches especially Eldred?
-
@AsadZ on the news just now, sounded like it could happen, could be Moore

Dear Abby:
As a native Kansas Citian who was indoctrinated to hate the Yankees and Cardinals, I find myself with an uneasy feeling.
I’m rooting for Aaron Judge to break the AL home run record and Pujols to get to 700. Is this normal ?
Signed, Conflicted Fan
-
@nwhawkfan LOL, that post highlights the conflicts of fandom! It’s hard to not like Judge and Pujols. Just amazing athletes, of course Judges home run numbers might be a bit gaudy if he played in Detroit or other pitchers parks.
-
Regardless of who they play for, I admire what they have accomplished as professional athletes.
-
On a separate note Royals swept the Twins, I did not see this one coming.

There’s a legit chance Aaron wins the triple crown this year on top of everything else. - -60 hr s right now - - -batting 317 - -& 128 RBI’S.
Love the shot and the play by play last night - -thought for sure he had it - - -sounded like he had it when it came off the bat - - hearing the play by plays call and then falling just short. - -He thought he had it - - you could see it , he dropped his head a bit when it fell short. - -Picked on the biggest part of the park Dead Center - -needed 408 & he hit it like 404 - -right there in monument park
Thing is too you know the pressure has got to be insane on him. Every time he comes to the plate , a lot of fans coming to the feet in anticipation - the more games he goes without # 61/62 the bigger the pressure. – I don’t know. - -Will he ? - - or won’t he. - -got 14 games to go
-
@AsadZ boy you could tell Water’s ball was gone yesterday!
-
I seen a stat for the KC fans. - -Watching the game last night and it scrolled across that the KC Rookies have hit 67 Homeruns which is a record for M League Baseball - -there you go
-
Singer had a really nice outing tonight against Seattle. Only allowed one run on a solo HR, 5 hits and threw 8 strikeouts in seven innings.
This is turning into a nightmare scenario for Mariners fans. Last week the M’s were in good shape for a wild card berth, and headed out on a road trip against three ball clubs with losing records.
Instead they’ve gone 3-7 in their last 10 games, their three best hitters (in an otherwise weak-hitting lineup) have been out with injuries, and the normally solid pitching has suddenly hit a wall. What’s worse, they’ve booted the ball all over the place lately despite their league-best fielding percentage. Oh yeah, and Baltimore is on a hot streak again and breathing down their necks for that last wild card spot.
Stressful times, with less than two weeks to go in the regular season. Don’t know if I can handle a 21st straight year without making the playoffs.
-
And congrats to Albert Pujols, the pride of Fort Osage HS.
He hit home runs 699 and 700 tonight. In the first four innings no less ! Great way to wrap up a career.
-
I’m not crying why would you ask that ridiculous question https://twitter.com/cardinals/status/1573512972256673795?s=46&t=lK3auL8Mx0darlETExfFOA
-
@nwhawkfan Singer has been dominating ever since returning from Omaha, carrying Royals pitching. Out of all the young pitchers Royals had drafted in the past 6-7 years, he is the only one who has developed into a starter caliber type.
-
nwhawk, Sorry to see Mariners bullpen implode against Royals, hopefully they will bounce back.

Well, it sure wasn’t easy, but the M’s finally clinched a playoff berth last night on a walkoff HR in the 9th. Still need to catch Toronto to get a series at home.
-
NW: Yes, really happy for M’s and you. All the best in the playoffs.

I am very sad. That is all.
-
Meanwhile, Dayton Moore is gone, but his impact lives on.
One of the last guys he traded, Carlos Santana, hit a 3-run homer last night to spark the Mariners comeback. After trailing 8-1, they won 10-9 in Toronto to sweep the Wild Card Series.
Revenge is sweet…after years of having hordes of annoying Blue Jay fans come down from Vancouver and get drunk and obnoxious at M’s games, by the end of yesterday’s game the Toronto fans were is stunned silence and were being drowned out by Mariner fans. As they say, payback’s a bee-yotch.
Astros up next in the ALDS. Definitely more of a challenge, but at least Seattle gets its first home playoff game in 21 years.
-
@nwhawkfan I wish Josh Danielson was still a Blue Jay so all my dislike can be concentrated in one place.
-
Oops! Meant Josh Donaldson. Nice to see he got thrown out AGAIN while doing a home run trot that was not signaled a home run by the umpires. Ball hit the top of the right field wall, and bounced off a vendor’s Bud Lite tray sitting on the wall and a fan’s finger before falling back to the fielder. Prob should have been called a double but ass-uming when the ball is in play is dumb dumb dumb.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

ya it could

Josh Donaldson and their now off the playoff roster wife beating, tattoo infected closer are the only real reasons why I dislike NY so much this year. I’m pulling hard for Cleveland who are the anti-Yankees and a lot of America will be pulling for them tomorrow night.
-
Don’t really have a rooting interest in any of the four clubs left. Phillies & Astros look like the hot teams right now, but I’m curious about San Diego, especially with Soto on the roster.
Can’t imagine that Cleveland would’ve matched up too well against Houston if they’d got past NY. They’re a young team though…look for them to contend for the next few years.
-
Look at those Astros GO.
-
Can Yankees come back?
-
@AsadZ said in No matter what team you pull for:

Huge Yankee fan --as you know - - and to your question the answer is NO. - - Astro’s just have better talent 1-9 - -better hitters percentage wise - -better pitching. =- -Yankees had one of the better bullpens but injuries have destroyed the bullpen. - - -Just like it has played out in the entire playoffs for NY - it’s HR or nothing. -Not giving their starting pitchers any run support . Wouldn’t surprise w if Houston didn’t sweep. - Maybe Yankees win one with Cortes.
-
@jayballer67 I have to say, I am utterly shocked! I thought you were a to-the-wall, never-say-die, ain’t-no-fat-lady-singing-yet fan of NYY!!!
-
Pulling for the Padres.
The ALCS is a match up of my most hated team as a child vs my most hated team as an adult.

LMAO - you a goofball , yet your right - - MOST the time - - BUT I’m also a REALIST - - Houston just better all the way around and on top of that they have had NY number for years lol
-
Didn’t realize until today that Phillies’ manager Rob Thomson played at KU in the '80s. Another catcher-turned-manager.

-
The office will be Astros crazy today. I think it’s time to order a t-shirt, and join them. Go Astros!
-
Hard to get behind cheaters
-
Old Evil Empire, meet the New Evil Empire. Yanks didn’t put up much of a fight.
Even with a KU guy managing the Phillies, I can’t see them winning the WS. Houston pitching too good, especially the bullpen.
Best case scenario, they might be able to take one or two games and keep the Astros from a clean sweep of the playoffs.
-
Will Judge sign with Bronx bombers and what will it take to keep him
-
@AsadZ said in No matter what team you pull for:

ya I think when it’s all said and done - - he will return to the Yankees- --he sure didn’t help his cause any though when it really counted - His strikeout ration against the Guardians was insane.
Kinda falls under what have you done for me lately ? - Lately means the playoffs when it really counts
It kinda falls in the same scenario as College Basketball a player can carry a team al year and then have a crap tourney when yo really for all the marbles. - - a lot of people look at it like -good player - -not a clutch game time play off player
-
@Crimsonorblue22 said in No matter what team you pull for:

Every team has a system in place and the Astros haven’t stayed this good because of something 5 years ago. 6 straight LCS appearances and 4 WS appearances happens because of talent and ability.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 They have amazing talent which makes it worse that they felt like they needed to cheat to win a world series.
-
My personal opinion is they’ve only been stealing signs in baseball for 100 years. Here the Yankee fans acted like they given some grave injustice in 2017 conveniently forgetting about all their roided up players they used to win titles and championships. Everyone. steals. signs. in. baseball. To me, it parallels our present situation with the NCAA- everyone calls us “cheats” for doing what everyone else has been doing for a long, long time.

Reports are coming up that Royals have hired Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro as manager
I don’t know much about him and will do some digging on his background
-
Pedro Grifol, Royals bench coach has been hired by White Sox as Manager @wissox
-
@AsadZ It’s a pick that’s being panned by a lot of Sox fans. The common comment is if he’s so good why didn’t the Royals hire him? I obviously hope he’s good but our administration has screwed up so many hires I’ll believe it when I see it.
-
@AsadZ Apparently he’d been on J.J. and Sherman’s radar for a while due to his success in Tampa Bay & Cleveland. Going to wait and see, but early national feedback seems to be positive.
The media reports talk about how well Quatraro did with “small market teams.” Had to chuckle a bit about that…the Tampa-St. Pete market is now ranked Number 13 in the country, ahead of Detroit, Miami, the Twin Cities and St. Louis. (Seems like these national writers think a “small market” is someplace that isn’t New York or L.A.)
-
@nwhawkfan The 13th market actually puts them in the bottom half of the mlb tv markets (17th, by my count) since LA, SF, NY, and Chicago all have multiple teams. There is also a significant dropoff in size from top to middle.
-
@wissox I think Royals did not hire him as they wanted to have a fresh start, someone from outside with a new approach. He was well regarded by the players.
-
Grifol was the only internal candidate that had any chance of being hired by KC in this cycle, but like @AsadZ said, they needed a clean break from the previous regime. I expect we will see new people throughout the development chain for KC, but Grifol will probably do well in Chicago (but hopefully not too well).
-
Initial impressions have been great so far!
