2022 Transfer Portal Thread

Might as well get this one going.
Zeb Jackson, 6’5 4 star PG leaving Michigan after half a season. Talk on him is he will have a lot of interest.
-
@BeddieKU23 has he been injured? Because the stats are yikes.
-
Sounds like change of scenery needed.
Jackson averaged 5.2 minutes over 16 games as a freshman last season and appeared in just four games this season. He missed the start of the season due to an undisclosed health issue and has not appeared on the bench during games since Michigan’s trip to Rutgers on Jan. 4.
He’s just working through some things,” Martelli said on Jan. 17. “He’s getting all the support from the coaching staff, from the personnel on campus, and making sure he’s in a good place mentally to rejoin the team if that’s what’s best for him.”
-
Portal approaching 250 already.
Last 5 years transfer numbers according to Verbal Commits. 2021 saw nearly 70% increase with the free transfer year. 13 transfers ended up on all-conference first teams in Power 5.
2017- 904
2018- 883
2019- 987
2020- 1013
2021- 1729
-
I’m guessing the portal is close to last year. I would guess that there may also be players transferring out of P5 into midmajors for more minutes and a better fit. I know a lot of people don’t like the portal, but I think it gives student athletes the best opportunity to find a good fit, and more than that, have control of their own destiny, for good or bad. There will certainly be people that transfer that probably should stay put. There will be others that transfer and find an improved situation for themselves personally and basketballwise.
-
I wouldn’t be surprised if 21 was the peak given the free year + covid year. Perhaps we see the 1200 to 1500 range on average since after the first time they transfer they don’t have the luxury of moving again without sitting until they have graduated… At some point the pool shrinks
-
Have to imagine you see Nigel Pack’s name in soon.
Has a player ever been a better fit for any team ever than he would be for Alabama? Hope to see him leave the conference.
-
Do they have to sit a yr now?

I hope he stays in the conference.

No, that’s a permanent change now
-
Portal could hit 300 hundo by end of weekend
-
Portal probably be at 350 by end of day.
-
After the first weekend of the tournament, I expect things to pick up in the portal. Most programs will be done after this weekend, so that means exit meetings at most schools will happen next week, then the portal will heat up.

Last year might be unique because of the bubble situation but I’d keep a close eye on guys that play in the same location as KU who announce a transfer.
-
Portal likely to hit 400 today.
-
Over 400, it’s heating up
-
Ouch for Huggins
Isiah Cottrell & Jalen Bridges are transferring. That roster is a sad state of affairs right now
Portal up to 450

Cottrell was their only RSCI 100 player. He was putrid on offense though.
-
Wonder if Huggy is on the ol HOT SEAT ?
-
Ben Howland out at Miss St.
Reason for interest. Their leading scorer Iverson Molinar 6’3 guard avg 17.5ppg on 45% fg & 86 FT% could look for a new home. 3 point shooting fell off a cliff this season to 25% after shooting 44% as a Soph. Concerned there but he fits a lot of boxes of what Self might be after in the Portal…

Huggy just won’t survive in the current environment imo. He’s hard to play for and he really doesn’t even really try to recruit anymore. He needs to hang it up
-
I wonder if he is but the way this season ended for him being ejected, I can’t imagine he wants to hang it up on that note. However I have no idea how he’s going to field a better team next year. Those 2 that transferred were his highest rated recruits besides Tshiebwe in several years. I can’t imagine Sherman & McNeil have eligibility left. Same situation for Paulicap, Carrigan, Osabuohien who are seniors as well. What a mess. He’s got 4, 3 star type prospects signed. Cupboard is bare

Did you see the article a Kentucky writer put out? Caveat that it’s biased towards UK (duh) and that Oscar is getting more money at UK but holy moly it’s a really bad look for Huggins. Like super bad.
-
@BShark - do you have a link or the writer’s name?

Believe it was on the Athletic so you’d need to be subscribed. I’m trying to find it but this would be the writer: https://theathletic.com/author/kyle-tucker/
-
@BShark - thanks! $1/month for 6 months! That’s a good deal!
-
@BShark not seeing anything bad about hugs.
-
OMG Frank Martin looks terrible …
-
Hugs will have lots of leeway, imo. I don’t think the heat comes on until next year.
-
@BShark found it. Written in 2017. Wonder what they all think now?

There was one from this season. About how mean old Bob made him cry every night or something like that. I need to find it though, make sure I’m remembering it correctly.

Written 12/17/21 by Kyle Tucker. “Tshiebwe - I will not be boxed out”. Interesting.
-
@Gorilla72 thank you
-
@BShark keep going down, Dec 2017
-
-
Disregard. Stats are good but he is a head case.
-
Biggest name on the market so far- Fardaws Aimaq, Utah Valley WAC player of the year, 6’11 245 mountain averaged 18ppg 13 rebounds per game. Going to have one of the longest lists out there…
-
@BeddieKU23 Can he block shots?

1.3 per game. 99 career blocks in 3 seasons. Has 2 seasons to play but will explore professional options first before entertaining colleges. Is definitely looking to go somewhere to win. Made 20 3’s on the year as well. Given his size I think some of his stats are inflated due to competition. Did have 24 and 22 against BYU in their win & 15 & 15 against Washington. Hasn’t played against a lot of top competition from the looks of it.

I am not impressed with him. If we were desperate for a big sure, but thankfully we are not.
-
Agree he looks decent but not a need for us. I have seen his initial contact list and its long…
-
Portal approaching 550. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 2 to 300 more names in by the end of the week.

I can understand why teams are interested but there are warning signs here. Main one is 0.9 DBPM in the WAC. The counting stats are bananas though and he will have a nice payday I am sure.
-
I’m shocked how few firings there have been.
- Haase
- Tinkle
- Pastner
- Capel
- Collins
All seem like guys that should be shown the door.

Have you seen Tinkle’s contract? 14M buyout I kid you not.
-
@BShark I didn’t. But damn. Makes more sense after this season.
-
I’m very confused how Oregon State committed so much money and so many years to a guy who’s best record at OSU was last year’s 20-13, and who never had a season with fewer than 13 losses at Oregon State. He had two great years at Montana, but otherwise has been a so-so coach in his entire career. Not sure why you commit that much to a guy with a very meh track record.

KYSportsRadio on Twitter quoted Calipari saying there are a lot of players wanting to transfer to Kentucky. Said he needed to evaluate them, “because as I’ve said, this environment isn’t for everybody”.

I can not roll my eyes hard enough at this.
