Bobby Pettiford

Reading comments from Louisville’s board they were not happy to lose him and most seem to think he was going to be really good in College. Always good to see that from a fanbase who’s lost a recruit.

Nice article on Bobby P

Seems like a lot of North Carolina people believe in normal circumstances he would be ranked higher and would have ended up somewhere better than Louisville initially.
He had an injury and of course the covid situation has made a mess of rankings.

On tape he looks like a Top 50 kid. The comp to Carsen Edwards seems like a good one. We’ll see what he develops into but very excited to land him for the upcoming season. He’s pretty much the perfect kind of guard for Self’s offense. Some Dotson/Frank/Devonte playmaking ability, defense, quickness and high level athleticism.
-
@BeddieKU23 Love the Carsen Edwards comp.
To me he looks like a dude who can play from day 1.
-
It’s a high comp, Edwards was a beast in HS and a more decorated recruit but the similarities in their game and body are there. I’m very high on Pettiford having a role as a freshman
-
@BeddieKU23 Was he? I am seeing where Carsen was a sub 100 recruit.

Decent comp tbh.
-
Wow I didn’t realize he was +100 recruit, my memory there slipped. I remember watching him in HS and he was so good. Definitely a good comp then

"Standing 6-foot-1, Pettiford possesses decent size to go with a set of long arms and has a lean, wiry frame, giving him capable physical tools for the lead guard position.
Athletically, he is quick and has plenty of bounce but his biggest strength here comes in his end to end speed. Pettiford is fast and couple that with his aggressiveness in the open court, he makes for a dynamic playmaker in transition.
Offensively, there are plenty of tools to work with and gives the point guard upside, starting with his quickness, speed and toughness. Pettiford is at his best in the half court, attacking downhill where he gets into the paint and can both finish at the rim with both hands and through contact or can stop on a dime and hit his teammates for open shots on the wings and corners."
Oh, okay.

Watched more highlights. Kid is smooth, makes good decisions offensively, finishes very well with his left
-
Also, i love seeing a tough 6’1 guard in a jersey with zero on it going to Kansas.
-
@approxinfinity The yellow team is the Washington Generals. Seriously… Zero D.
-
@approxinfinity I think he has the possibility to finish over .500 at the rim which would make him a NPOY under Bill Self… Just saying

For anyone that goes to 247, we have Bobby’s AAU coach on there posting nuggets.
-
Sounds like nothing to worry about with the Howard news and he is locked in.
-
Signing on Friday.

-
He just signed his letter of intent

There’s a lot to like with this kid.
-
Indeed!!! He plays fearlessly. Also read somewhere that he’s a hard worker and super coachable. He could become a real DAWG!
-
For anyone that has 247 premium, Chasen does a fantastic job with a full scouting report. That’s where I got the gifs from.
But the general summary is…
Fast, plays in attack mode, great body control, good passer. Sometimes the attack mode thing is a little to his detriment but you’d rather have that than a guy you have to beg to be aggressive. Jump shot does need work, while he got it from 29% to 40% there is still quite a bit for the staff to work on there.

@BShark I’m telling you, if Bill can keep this group together for 2-3 years they are going to win a Natty. All of the new guys just have “Bill Self Guy” for their position written all over them.
-
@Kcmatt7 Harder than it used to be that’s for sure.
-
I’m still predicting BP is our starting PG next year from Day 1.
-
Unless he can’t figure out the system we kind of want this one getting a big role. Don’t think he has to start in order to elevate the backcourt.
-
@RockkChalkk Bill specifically using the words “combo guard” with him makes me think he plans to play him off ball quite a bit.
-
Agree that Pettiford needs to and will play, but Yesufu will probably be our point.
