KU vs USC game thread

@BShark Agree… Braun and Ochai are essentially the same player. Here and there shooter who doesn’t create at all. Cant be played together unless one is actually hitting shots.
-
Is bill out of here? Doesn’t seem to have watched the same game we did.

Yeah, both are wings.

Honestly all year I’ve felt he knows we just don’t have the horses this go around.
-
3rd worst loss by a top 3 seed since seeding began. Awesome stat to be in now

My medium warm take has been Ochai would be better as a 4. He’s just not great with the ball.

Nah. He knows his team and is probably mentally fried. Rough year.
-
Any thoughts on guard skill development? Don’t throw Mason and Devonte at me. Other than those two has anyone really developed? Selden, Vick, Svi, Ochai, etc…None ever really develop ball-handling past their freshman year ability.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Maybe but he’s only 6’5

Case in point

Bill Self: For us to be a national title contender, we need to get more athletic, longer, bigger. I thought our guys played to their abilities well this year, but tonight the length definitely mattered. #kubball

I can’t name the first two 3rd seed worst losses off the top of my head, so that’s good.

Just no point in blasting them now.

All those guys are wings. That kind of positional transformation just doesn’t really happen
-
@BigBad Tyshawn Took 3.5 years though
-
@FarmerJayhawk Wings because they can’t handle the ball. Only Svi was tall enough to have a positional excuse. The other 3 are not over 6’5.

Well, those are all wing guys. Selden was probably the closest thing to an actual guard but was too slow. He excelled when Self moved him to the 3.

Next year… Sophomore Wilson, Senior Big Dave… that’s one dog and one anchor for next year. A rim protector would be great, but Dave will do. I’m fine with an amped up Harris at point… more of an attack guy would be better of course. If Och, Braun and Bryce can’t find a beast mode, then find better players
Bryce has a ways to go, but I believe he will improve. If we add the right guys, I wouldn’t mind seeing Braun go to the bench.
Something like…
Tyson Walker
MYSTERY TWO GUARD (pref a 4th or 5th year guy)
Ochai
Jalen
Dave
Then you have a real ass bench with Harris, CB and whoever ends up 8th in the rotation.
So you don’t think Bryce ends up in the rotation next year? He’s likely the starter at the 2 next year because he’s has most of what Self covets at the 2. A combo that can handle the ball and get his own shot. Bryce Thompson is why getting a second guard to transfer in is going to be difficult for KU unless that person is fine coming off the bench.
-
I had to go paint the house and fix the transmission on the car and finish my taxes. So I missed the end of the game. Did we come back and win?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I think he needs to improve a lot but should factor into the rotation.

Right, talking skill set. It’s rare for guys to develop such that they change positions at this level. You kind of are what you are outside some improvement shooting and BBIQ things. I’d be happy to be proved wrong on this but I can’t think of a player that went from bad handles to being an effective, ball dominant guard at this level.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 that @ me? No, based on what I saw this year, I doubt Bryce will start next year unless he bulks up a bit.
-
USC coach is a dick (watching him in post game)
-
Height doesn’t impact your position. Mitch is a 5, for example. Just a short and thin one.
-
@DanR threw the announcers under the bus
-
Was he listening to the game?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I get tired of the chip on the shoulder mentality
-
@DanR doesn’t he know everyone gets to pick the teams before the game?
-
@BigBad I’d say Harris is developing
-
Marcus! I hate this
-
I said it in a different thread, but thank you, Marcus Garrett, for a great career at Kansas. I’ll miss you.
-
Also sad cause Self has always wanted to play here. He’ll probably hate Hoosiers now!
-
I say at the end of every non winning season that they can’t take 1988 or 2008 from me and the joy felt from those years. Those are actually pretty rare for the majority of sports fans to be true diehards of a team and get to see them win it all. It just doesn’t happen much. Just look at the teams in our league. There’s no fans of any of those teams that knows a national championship in basketball. Some of those schools have some nice football memories of course, but even there, it’s been at least a decade for Texas and Oklahoma since a championship.
It eases the sting a bit. I also believe, as stated above that Covid really impacted this team. We had a great chance in 2020 to win it all. This year, nice run towards the end and like that, no Big 12 tournament, Jalen lost really through today. I can’t believe we get trounced like we did today with Jalen and Big Dave having played without missing any games. Were we good enough to win it all? I’m doubtful. So a big loss sucks, we’ll hear it from others ‘ku sucks’ ‘ku chokes every year’ or whatever but just remember what I wrote here. We’ve got it really good. Next season holds some promise. We’re gonna chase down Kentucky for the all time win record, battle for another league championship and deep tourney run. Keep your heads up!
-
If you’ve been in the SEC or ACC, you’ve had an abundance of championship memories.
-
Wow, is USC that good or were we just that bad? At any rate, we’ll have a tough team next year.
-
@wissox Man! This is way too sensible and empathetic. I just wanted to call them a bunch of pu$$ie$. Your way is better. Thank you for being the voice of reason.
-
@nuleafjhawk Sorry to ruin your day! I know it would actually make you feel better to call them a bunch of putties!
