Coaching Search/AD Thread

  • Got this from one of Army sites. : Black Knight Nation can confirm , that Monken has made calls to assemble a staff to take with him to Kansas. The number of Assistants Monken could take with him is not as many a one would think

  • @bennie said in Coaching Search/AD Thread:

some program should probably pick off Jones for his recruiting ability. he’s not going to advance at kansas

Likely getting a promotion when presumably Monken is official.

  • Should be official within 24 hours. I think Monken brings his DC, goes external for OC, rest of the staff stays.

  • Oh idk about that. There will be some departures. No way Monken is only bringing two coaches with him.

not so sure about that. From what I read of the knights message boards said he was making calls for his staff but wasn’t near as many coming with him a what you might think

  • Read this : - -Sources from inside the College football industry said. They felt Geoff will make a decision today. Saying as of this morning nothing yet but not far off

  • OMG - - this Coaching search has turned into one huge Cluster F - - - . KU fans wondering why KU Goff and others are dragging their feet making the announcement - - - Army fans going nuts as to WHY Monken would want to come to this crap show. - Some Army fans saying they don’t blame Monken cause he as always wanted to Coach at a P-5 School , Some saying his legacy is being destroyed by coming to KU - it’s just insane

Patience. All in due time. Goff has his man.

Take a deep breath. Goff is doing his due diligence on this which if Jeff Long had done a few years back, wouldn’t have KU in this situation today. It also doesn’t really make much PR sense to announce the day before the spring game. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the official announcement doesn’t happen until Saturday during or immediately after the spring game.

  • Hell there are some that STILL doesn’t even believe it’s Monken - still thinking Leipold or even Fritz

  • ITS LEIPOLD

  • Guess we don’t have to worry about Army going to war against KU…

  • GUYS IM SO HAPPY

  • IT’S TURNER GILL!

    /s

  • I’m happy with the choice. I always wonder why a decent coach would take the KU job, but then I remember that they’ll get paid millions even if they don’t win a game.

Just to be clear: you made me laugh thus the upvote. As for the actual sentiment … 🤮

True. But with our dismal W/L record over the past few decades, a coach has a better chance of getting a statue erected in their honor coaching at KU than at any other school. Averaging about 4 wins per season is about all it would take. And if it doesn’t happen, well, you still have the money.

  • I have no real issue with the Leipold hire. I wish he were a few years younger, I suppose, but that’s about it. He will have to demonstrate some recruiting skill, but with transfer eligibility the way it is, you can remake your roster on the fly now, so if he’s got the skill, KU could turn over the roster relatively quickly, making a rebuild a bit more possible.

  • @FarmerJayhawk are we keeping Jones?

I really believe so. Buffalo’s WR coach was here under Weis and it was less than stellar 😳

    ITS LEIPOLD

Mercy Mercy had me kind of Swaying had made it up in my mind that Monken would be fine , dam good Coach but deep down wanted Leipold , maybe less exodus of players , just hope he can recruit

  • My question now is Farmer. All we had been hearing lately was it was pretty much a done deal and it was going to be Monken , Soo did Monken end up turning us down? After all this Was Leipold our 1st or 2nd choice and become # 1 after Monken turned it down.

I asked two very connected people on this earlier and got polar opposite answers. One swore Leipold led wire to wire and the other said the Monken deal fell apart after some question he couldn’t bring along his preferred OC. So we’ll probably never know. Either way,

WE HIRED LANCE F******* LEIPOLD BUCKETEERS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Here is the thing, like they are saying on the radio media sports talk , they hope that KU fans think that Leipold is going to come in and just kill it the 1st year.

People need to look at this like year Zero. – Leipold no spring ball with the guys , trying to install an offense during the summer and then fall trying to install new offense, like they said KU not going to be good THIS year, but then again what’s one more crappy year

It’s going to be the following year that we begin to see a little bit. - However hears a anyalst from CBS sports said when he was asked to project KU wins for his 1st year and he said he could see KU getting a couple of Non Con wins and then even possibly , possibly scaring the hell out of ONE BIG 12 opponent or even winning a Big Twelve game

The National media all over this all very positive for the KU hire saying KU finally got it right and should feel very fortunate to get a guy with the quality of Leipold No matter what happens this year - - Year Zero - Think we have a very Quality Coach

  • @jayballer67 agreed. This year could be rough. Lots of new things happening, big transition. But it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see 4-5 wins in 2022 and bowling every year after.

  • From Tom Oates a well respected writer in Madison. Buffalo football coach Lance Leipold just told me he will be named coach at Kansas. “Great hire by KU. @CoachLeipold is a rock-solid program builder in the Barry Alvarez tradition. He will need time, though. A coach doesn’t develop players overnight.”

Right. the key for this year is Patience , Patience , Patience.
