Yea, like just about everything in life, not being open and up front about it -- especially when the world is questioning you -- was a huge mistake. It lead to nothing but negativity. Agreed the fans would have had a completely different view of this if he'd said something. anything. Crickets until now.
Of course the conspiracy theorist in me (not that i'm a big one) wonders about the timing of his announcement now. It's nearly draft season ... PR stunt to get that No. 1 paycheck?

Yeah it is definitely for PR, DP seems to be somewhat private/awkward with the media so wouldn't expect him to put something out if it wasn't for the negativity around him. Doesn't mean there isn't truth to it though. If he shows out and we make a run in the tournament, no one is going to care too much about how he handled the regular season.
I think you guys are watching a different DP than I am though when it comes to draft stock. He has slumped a bit lately, but he still makes plays no one else in this draft class is doing. Maybe he doesn't progress and falls short of becoming an all star level player, but to say he a NBA bench level prospect is laughable.

@MR11 i’m still very high on his ceiling and I think hes a good kid. If we are going to do anything this post season he is going to be a part of it.

@MR11 Agree 100 % on the last part of your part about him being bench player or not. There is no way that NBA front office personal would be picking him as the likely # one pick before and through the entire season and still by most anyway would be paying the kind of money he is going to get in the NBA to be coming off the bench,
most of these teams looking at him as a piece that will help them a lot moving closer in playoff contention

I think what is going to help Darryn more in the future when he plays in the NBA is the NBA play is more structured for players to break down plays more open flow breaking down to players creating/players going more one on one creating their own shot, Don't get me wrong , yes their is structure in the game but just more open free flow and lots of one on one getting your shot

Would anyone really be surprised if something comes up and he doesn't play much or at all at this point?

DP has led us through the ups and downs for sure. A lot of us were thinking ok, once B12 play starts he's gonna start giving us major minutes, When that didn't happen, we were thinking 2nd half of league play. Kind of where it started, but even then, without a ton of team success. Recently we've been silently wishing for him to unleash his arsenal of all world skills once the tournament begins and lead us to the promised land. It's that time, but I really don't see it.

I hope you are right. I think he is mega-talented, and I'm still hoping we'll get a Remy-esque revelation here at the end.
I'm just saying that IF he came out of a game early or couldn't play, I would not be surprised.
Disappointed, yes. Surprised, no.

Oh I agree with you 100%. I'm not sure what we are even doing anymore. Flory used to be a focal point, that's gone. You'd think we could try posting up Peterson or doing literally anything else other then the same we see every possession which is to make scoring difficult for him with how defenses are putting 2-3 guys his way everytime he touches the ball. I mean but Peterson is taking a lot of low % shots and making it easy to defend him so it's not all about how poor the offense has been lately. He's been in a major shooting slump and it seems like everyone follows suit when that happens

Record with DP playing is 14-8; without him its 9-2. Only two losses to Duke and UConn. Efficiency ratings and other advanced metrics show we have been a better team when DP is not playing or not on the court. Worst offensive games have been with DP playing.
That's not all on DP, although it isn't clear he makes his teammates better. It seems to be primarily scheme or coaching. When DP isn't playing, there is no go-to guy - the ball moves better, Council goes downhill more, and more set plays to get Flory lobs. Many more assists. With DP, everyone waits for him to make plays and the energy level dissipates on both sides of the ball.
His usage rate is ridiculously high. With defenses scheming to shut him down with double-teaming, you would think that with a couple of passes out of double team, we should be getting wide open looks from the arc or finishes in the paint. Not happening...
