Anyone else think it’s weird pretty much every metric has the B12 as the best conference in America but yet has the least amount of teams in the tournament of the power 4 conference. I’m sorry but if you go .500 in the best conference, you should be a lock come march.
Lunardi has 8 teams in - TCU in the last 4 in. WVU further down; next 4 out. In fairness, WVU's only good win is against KU, maybe UCF on the road. They lost to every decent team they played in non-conference. Their .500 record is the product of the easiest possible B12 schedule - play all the best teams just once. KU the only one they've beaten.
-
I'm going out on a limb and predicting 9 teams.
Seven teams are pretty obvious: The top 6 (ranked) teams plus UCF (8-6) which has only one game against a top 6 team remaining (tonight vs BYU).
TCU, CINCY and WVU are all .500 in the league right now. I think TWO of these three teams will make it into the tourney.
WVU only has one game against the top 6 (hosting BYU). But it does host UCF on Friday March 6. (Could have big implications.)
TCU plays @ TT and hosts Cincy.
Cincy plays @ TT, hosts BYU and is @ TCU.
Cincy seems legit based on Saturday's performance but we'll have to see; it seems to have the toughest road.
Plenty of time for two of these teams to elevate themselves over the third through the final games of the league and in the B12 tournament.
If the tourney leaves out two of these three, I'll be surprised.

Baylor trying to help the rest of us have hope for a chance at tying for the league championship. They're giving Arizona a tough game right now.

@wissox83 crazy!

Feel like they are just getting our hopes up then will shit the bed
-
@kjayhawks2.0 Yeah I'm just starting to watch so I'll probably jinx it!
-
There is the bed shitting smh
-
UCF up by 24 at HT against BYU in Provo.
-
@patoh3 Shocked I tell you this morning when I saw the final. OH MY

-
I used to think Arizona was soft. But Tommy Lloyd does not appear to be soft at all. Dont know when it will translate to a deep tourney run but running the B12 gauntlet is no joke.
-
@approxinfinity I think the conference has 4 teams that could make a FF run given the right road and match ups. I would say 5 if Toppin had not been injured. I think the this is the best we have ever seen the conference.
-
Yeah, UCF now has a better league record than BYU and maybe the easiest sched of the top 7 to close out league play.
-
@kjayhawks2.0 Normally I would agree with you but I think there is a big question mark looming over Kansas. Can Kansas make the final four after not winning the conference? In the past, Bill Self's teams have always had to win the conference to have a shot at a good run in March. Other good teams that fall short of the crown in the regular season seem to be able to shrug off the conference title result and make a run at the final four (all the other blue bloods have done so during Self's tenure) but with Self teams, falling short of the conference crown seems to break their spirit in a way that ensures a very bad March performance from them. Here are the results off the top of my head.
-
2019- got blown out by Auburn in the round of 32
-
2021 - got blown out by USC in the round of 32
-
2024 - got blown out by Gonzaga in the round of 32
-
2025 - back-to-back-to-back turnovers to choke away a win against Arkansas in the round of 64.
This team has shown enough upside for us to know that, if things go well for them, they absolutely can make noise in March, but it would be unprecedented for a Bill Self team that did not win the conference.

2023 was Arkansas and a choke job. Last year was Arkansas also.
But I really think this team is built differently than those years that ended badly. They've got a large dose of toughness in their DNA and it's gonna get us deeper into the tournament than we've been doing. I firmly believe that.
-
@wissox83 I hope you are right. All of those other teams were clearly limping into March. This team did not seem to be limping on Monday but seemed to be limping heavily on Saturday. We will see which version shows up in the postseason.
-
@Jayhawk_69 those teams were absolutely terrible and really had zero shot of not only winning the conference but going anywhere in March. The B12 is so good this year I think finishing in the top 3 or 4 says you are a solid ball club. The last two years I believe we finished 6th or 7th in the final standings and never really competed for the conference crown. You also left out the 2004 Jayhawks that got second in the conference. That team made the elite 8 and lost in OT to Georgia Tech thanks to some bogus fouls Called on Langford.

I don’t really count 2023 because having Bill on the sidelines is worth more than the one point we lost by. I was so mad Dick drained a 3 and then was pulled to not play for several minutes by Roberts after he looked to start rolling.
-
This year there are five starters who can get 15 and four that can get more than 20 on any given night. The balance bodes well (provided we stay balanced when DP is on the court).
There’s some bench depth with Jamari and ElMarko.
Plus I think this is the best shot-blocking team since 2022.
That said, I would not be surprised to see Arkansas in our bracket.

@bskeet they are trying to create a rivalry between the real Kansas and the pirate Kansas lol
