Very interested to see Iowa St's response after their Super-Bowl Saturday. My prediction is bold but that's why it's that. Iowa St winning would help KU, I just don't see it as a likely outcome.
I'm not necessarily predicting an ISU win, I just don't see this game being a blowout either way because of each team's style of play.

Welp. ISU got it done. Conference is still in play.

Houston will blow out Iowa St tomm. Book it
Didn’t age well

-
Certainly didn't age like wine. At least the outcome benefitted KU temporary

Houston shot 34 threes and made 12. ISU bench 25 pts Houston 8 pts. I thought ISU matched up pretty well everywhere but Kingston Flemings scored 22 with 4/6 from three. He is playing like the best Freshman guard in the conference.
-
The thing with Flemings isn't just that he scores a lot, but that he scores whenever Houston needs him to. It seems like every time their opponent makes a run, Flemings ends it by hitting a tough shot.

How do we open looks for DP? He is being face guarded by a long defender. When he gets the ball he's doubled and gets in trouble picks up his dribble and it's over. We get open threes from the top Elmarko on the wings Tre and Melvin and corner Bryson and Jamari. We shoot the same % from three as Houston and a little less than ISU who had Momcilovic.
-
The problem is Darryn doesn't know how to pass out of double-teams or break them. He should locate the open man and skip the ball forward to him. This would result in an advantage for the rest of our offense which would either force defenders to stop double-teaming Darryn or allow our offense to thrive without Darryn scoring a single point. However, he either turns the ball over, or panics until Melvin or Elmarko retreats back to nearly half-court as a safety valve allowing Darryn to give up the ball, but forcing us to handle the ball so far from the basket that the defense can easily get into position.
-
@Jayhawk_69 yes the key to defeating a double team is ball movement. You have to see that double coming and get it out just before they get to you.

@BeddieKU23 Oooopsie Daisy lol- - Houston fell down and went boom

Sorry... I've been AWOL!
I only watched 3 minutes of this game, and I'm glad I missed it.
I just looked at the box score and it feeds right into a thought I've had for quite some time.... it's about Tre.
Tre has been our most consistent player all year and I am very glad we have him, because he usually finds his way to putting up good stats with lots of points and some needed rebounds.
I'm thinking Tre is a guy who always takes advantage of the opportunity to prosper on average defenders. But when the competition toughens up, his production dies.
He scored 2 against ISU, and 4 against UA. And I noticed this same trend in other tough battles.
We really can't afford almost no production from any position. This is worse than Juan.
Concerning DP... it was hard to imagine him doing well in this game. Hostile environment and energetic defense. Coming off the flu. Knocking the rust off his game. And he still isn't integrated into the offense. Until he starts averaging at least 4 apg, I won't be convinced he is integrated. He should be creating even more than that! I've heard all the excuses why he doesn't produce assists and I'm not buying any of them.
His assist line might not be as important to NBA scouts as his points line, but I guarantee you it is important.
At this point in the season, he really can't miss more games if we hope on really capitalizing on using him towards anything near the potential. But since our depth is limited, we can still use him no matter what, but we just can't hope to get a real bump.
I wasn't really expecting we would leave the Hilton with a W, but I was hoping more for a loss similar to what UH just had. To see such a fall off like that doesn't really give me March optimism. But I predicted we would lose a few more then have another team meeting like we did earlier.
We've seen so much recent growth... hope that keeps going because we need more development to be truly competitive in March. I've forgotten completely about competing for the B12 crown.
