BYU Beatdown pregame chat
-
It's a must win, but it should be winnable, esp. at home. BYU has 3 top level offensive talents in Dybantsa, Saunders and Wright that we can't match. We have more balance and a better defense, plus the AFH advantage. No question BYU is good - they've beaten at least as many quality teams than we have - including Villanova, Clemson, Miami and Wisconsin. But they have lost to the 3 best teams they've played, UConn, TTU and Arizona, although 2 were tight games and all were away from home. May be dreaming, but if we win this game, we control our own destiny in the B12 race...

Looks like BYU faithful are quite confident on their chances Saturday:

@DCHawker Dybansta is going to get his, It's Saunders that worries me, Dybansta is getting his focus on the others--- - - shut them down don't leet some un known have a career night Dybansta going to find out how the Phog can be
-
Dybansta probably gets his but it depends on the manor in which he gets his. He’s has games where he has been highly efficient but has had games were he shoots it 20+ times to get to 20 points. Guarding the 3 point line and rebounding will be the keys IMO. If I’m not mistaken they have 4 guys that shoot north of 38% from distance and a host of others above 30.
-
Will KU bigs be smart enough not to pick up fouls early in the game while guarding Dybansta? I can certainly foresee Flory sitting with 3 first half fouls.
-
Defense is the biggest challenge in this game for KU and it's really going to come down to how well the guys communicate and react on switches and rotations. BYU's style of offense with Pope and now Smith has given KU absolute fits. We've had no answer for them. All the attention will be on Dybansta but I'd rather we focus it on Wright who absolutely killed us in Waco last year playing for Baylor. Have to make him uncomfortable running the show and keep him from having a big game.
On Offense, they have to make shots efficiently. I'd like to see us play inside/out. Our recent winning streak has shown that if we get Flory and Tiller going early, the adjustments defensively open up everything else for this offense. If they could get Keita into foul trouble that would really go a long ways.
-
That's on Self to not let that happen.
-
Didn't realize Dawson Baker has been out for them which is good for us. If there's someone outside their big 3 that we can't let have a big game would be Davis. He's the AJ Storr of their team, super streaky, woke up in the Arizona game and had double his average.

ESPN has KU as a 4.5 pt favorite. RC

Building's gonna be red hot. Can't wait

Darryn has to be healthy and he has to be able to pass out of double and triple teams. As good as DP is at scoring, he is one of the worst passers out of double/triple teams I have ever seen. I know he has the talent to fix that, and if he does our offense will reach a new level. As for defense, it all comes down to Flory and Bryson playing both smart and hard.
-
ESPN talking about how this should be a classic.- last time these two matched up was on the circuit and it was just crazy , Darryn lit it up for FIFTY EIGHT POINTS and Dybansta going off for FORTY EIGHT they had off nights lmao

The Truth is going to be there. Pierce and KG were on a podcast and some clothing company sent him a bunch of Jayhawk shirts (Wilt's #) and so he should be in the locker room pre game with a speech to get them going. He did THE CHANT and was swaying like wave the wheat. He was fired up. No one wants to miss the match up between DP and AJ. I saw where last time they played against each other, DP had 58 and the winning bucket. Home court is going to be huge. I've only watched BYU a couple of times, and to me it looked like they just gave the ball to AJ to drive and get fouled and it has been fruitful for them as he has the MOST FTs in Big 12. I hope Flory and BT can play without fouls being a distraction. We need BT to step up like he did vs the kitty cats. Take it to the hoop. We have to get to the foul line and make our bunnies. Who will be starting? Marko or Mari? I think based on last game it would be Marko. Can someone explain Coach using Dawson over Kohl in the event of foul trouble? I am already nervous since there are going to be so many eyes across the country on this one. Self has a ridiculous record vs higher ranked teams in AFH. Just load the wagon! RCJH GO KU
