The rest of the season

  • @approxinfinity What = makes these kids tik is this FRICKEN NIL – NOT the School or love of the game anymore-- Here today- - gone tommorrow–

OK what do w start the bidding with?- Cn w get a million-- million , million , million , million come on surely a Million to start what we have here is a fine 7’2 Sloth that can’t hit two foot chiipies and thinks s he is Steph Curry and hss a two inch explosion - – -what more could you want-- ok , ok how about half mil who is going to start the bidding?

  • @SlimShaddy54 Whoever dreamed up this NIL/PORTAL garbage should be hung up by the kahonas in the town square. Then lit on fire. But with diesel, so it’s a slow burn.

It’s ruined college sports. I know I’ve ranted about it too much, but it’s because i USED to love college sports. Now I’d rather watch a movie, go fishing, go antiquing, pickup trash on the side of the road, organize fallen leaves by size & color - anything. I’m not wasting my time on this garbage anymore. ( I will, but not as much time as I used to…old habits die hard).

From an old fart’s point of view - college sports should be college sports. They should not be paid. They’re already getting a free education. And that’s fantastic, because nearly every single one of them will not be a professional athlete. They’re going to need that free degree in the real world. That’s enough. They don’t need a salary. They don’t need anything but to want to play sports for free.

@rockchalkjayhawk I’m not sure if he is trying to fit square pegs into round holes. To me it seems more like trying to see if any of these pegs can stand on their own. I think all he is trying to do right now is get guys to care and the more he tries, the less they care. But we may have ourselves in a cycle where the less they care, the less he cares, and the less I seem to care.

sure, fine. we can toss the square peg / round hole analogy. Something’s amiss. However we want to word it. I just want these guys to run! All but Hunter seemed well-suited for a run and gun style.

  • I just want to see some effort and basketball rotations that make sense.

No 3 centers lineup with Dajuan and Zeke. Just functional normal basketball rotations.

  • @nuleafjhawk Couldn’t agree more. I was just talking to a couple of friends of mine , One in California and the Other from Arizona- - both would agree because they agreed with me.

One thig one said was the only thing about Coach was he should be yanking Dickinson faster -you don’t want to play Defense then until you figure it out you can sit right here with me. I’ve said and they both also said this NIL ha absolutely ruined the College game

Hell start yankng Scholi’s bring their mom and Dad in tell them your pulling them and oh by the way do you have a check to pay for his tuition. My friend in Arizona is like you , he said he has a hard time watching College sports anymore, because it’s becoming just like Pro so he has a western collection of movies he is watching lol – -

You can tell they have checked it in , this team is done- how many wide , wide open three’s - -how many easy uncontested layups- -I shut it off with like eight minutes to go in the first half- -just sad

  • @TYOHawk Bill just can’t help himself as he truly thinks that’s the best lineup

  • The three big lineup was absolute bullshit. Nobody who wears crimson and blue wanted that. No one. Felt like Bill doubling down on some disciplinarian point, when everyone was tired of it. His reactions to these situations. His inability and unwillingness to compromise to salvage it, makes me feel like he is heavily considering retirement after this season.

  • Retire William! Bring in Dusty May this off-season if anything below is actually truth

    https://247sports.com/college/kansas/longformarticle/bill-self-kansas-basketball-postgame-quotes-byu-245883588/#2601950

“At one point he said basically BYU shot and made not high " shots. Basically fools gold…“

It was disrespectful to anybody who understands modern basketball. I understand he wants to teach lessons to AJ or Rylan but come on man…

  • Well, the entire sports universe is pretty much saying KU hoops is in a downward spiral and an embarrassment.

With locker room troubles, apparent player backlash and what not, this could actually be a defining moment – for the better.

The players surely value their good names, right? They have to re-energize after reading how lazy and unenthusiastic they play.

They can’t just sit back and be mocked like that, can they? There has to be positive change in effort soon! I hope at least.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk I’ve been noticing that more in the National media too. And even the rah rah KU fan feeds are pointing to our collapse. Hope we don’t lose out and miss the Dance this year, now that would be one for the record books.

  • @TYOHawk Honestly he’s just embarrassing himself, racking up atrocious losses while still acting like his favorites are legit and not the issue. He’s so out of touch with the game and it’s making him look bad but it’s his own arrogance

He had the number 1 nil, got exactly who he wanted from the portal and claimed “you’ll love this roster back in what October/November” - and then he mentally ruined two of the new guys he brought in to were supposed to be big contributors

  • @approxinfinity

That line of thinking- disciplinarian would line up with what Vernon reported about friction in locker room post Utah game. Of course, we don’t know for sure but hard to deny that wasn’t the case after the BYU game and Self saying that they needed to get away from each other.

Still, that lineup choice was awful and I’m just going to leave it at that. 8th different starting lineup combo of the year. Surprisingly they went 5-1 when Moore started and played 20+ minutes. But he’s appeared to be in the dog house for several weeks unless injury has really limited him.

I was wondering why Shak was in the doghouse myself, I was think that was the best version of this team.

Even though we didn’t start Flory over Hunter, I’d like to take credit for today’s win! Lots of running and gunning. You’re welcome 🙂

  • So far my end of season prediction is correct! Doesn’t even make me feel better.

  • I just watched the Houston game yesterday in the evening. I’ve got a lot of thoughts going through my brain about this team.

I hate to say that I’m encouraged by this team, but I kind of am… I think Bill playing Diggy 29 minutes goes to show that he is willing to play the best guys the most minutes. Diggy is one of the best 5 guys available right now. They played tight with the best team in the B12 on the road. They really are good enough to hang with anyone.

Where I think we are in trouble though is still just the Mayo/Juan issue. There is nothing coming from those two right now that is positive. We really need this team to get hot in Conference play. Nobody needs to win the B12 Tourney and find “something” more than this group. I think it really is going to come down to if Mayo can get confident again or not. He has lost that ability to hunt for his own shot. He’s not seeing the game well right now… But that could change.

At the same time, KJ has found another gear. If we can get this level of effort/production out of him moving forward I would not want to play the Hawks. One of the most dangerous 6-9 seed teams you’ll ever see.

If I were to guess, you’ll see a tight rotation again Saturday. Basically cut it down to 7 guys getting meaningful minutes.

I’ll say that no doubt it has been a disappointing season. We aren’t nearly as good of a team as I had imagined we would be. I thought with all of the depth we brought in that we’d be a top 5 team all season long basically. But the team didn’t gel. The coaches didn’t get the most out of the guys. The guys don’t play well together. Its really an unfortunate situation for everyone. I still think a team that took Houston to the final minute on the road is good enough to beat anyone in the country on a neutral floor. If we’re lucky, we’ll get some games in big arenas where the ball doesn’t go in the hoop.

My final thought, this team is due. The are due for a ball to bounce their way. They are due for the basket to look like its the size of the ocean against a good team. They are due to make that final play to win a close game. I’m still remain optimistic that this team can make a little run despite its obvious flaws.

  • Generally agree, even though we lost the last two games, we were in it to the end and weren’t embarrassed. It is the games that came earlier in the season that has everyone so down on them, so if they can keep this up and even improve a little they can make some noise.

Counterpoint is that when things aren’t going your way so often, it might be more than that they are unlucky. They also haven’t given us a real reason to think they won’t just as easily go back to giving the same level of effort seen in the BYU.

I am optimistic that maybe the team can make the 2nd weekend if we get matched up teams without bigs that can shoot, but I would be shocked by anything more than that at this point.

  • @Kcmatt7

Diggy was great on offense against Houston but just about every big shot he made was followed by a shot he gave up on the other end. His effort was great though and I’m happy he’s still fighting hard.

I do agree the Juan/Mayo thing is a major problem. Mayo wouldn’t even look at the hoop to shoot on several occasions he normally lets it fly. They are also putting him in way too many situations where he has to dribble to make a play, and he’s turned the ball over a ton lately. He doesn’t seem to be a confident ball handler which is shocking to me.

  • At this point a loss to Arizona might help us with tournament seeding. Because if it pushes us up into 11-12th seed in the dance, we avoid the 1 seed in the 2nd round provided we win of course. I doubt that happens though too. The NCAA seems to enjoy seeding blue bloods having a bad year at the 8-9 line so that they can get the juicy 2nd round matchup. UNC in 2022 is a good example. The season is likely to end like the last 6 or 7 besides 2022, but if we can increase our chances of moving on past the 2nd round by being seeded lower I’d take it. Maybe they’ll give us one of those extra 11 v 11 games in the dance so we have another chance to watch.

  • I think losing vs Arizona and early in the B12 tourney pushes us to a 8-9 seed. Win this weekend and at least 1 big 12 game and we are a 6-7 seed. Currently sit at a 6.8 seed rating on bracket matrix and that is always pretty close to accurate.

Unfortunately too late to change the offensive scheme… But yes they need to get Mayo more catch and shoot situations rather than pick and roll. He’s got no confidence with that at the moment.

Diggy is a defensive liability, but at least he gives you a chance to go out punching. I’ll take his ability to score over whoever he is guarding probably 9 out of 10 times… He also stretches the floor and moves the defense. Gives Hunt and KJ more space. Probably lets you slide Mayo more into the catch and shoot role in the corners too.

  • Have we sunk so low that nobody’s even started a game thread? sigh.

Hoping the “seniors” can bring home a W today.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk I just did. Jinx!

  • Doh!

  • Haha same exact time. Good timing.
