Offseason Roster Thread

Thought it would be a good idea to start this up since the movement is already starting. Here’s the scholarship chart for spring 2025 as things stand today. It has the early enrollees (Holley, McComb, Cook, Curvey, Hayes) and the transfers (Kamara, Williams). Also assume everyone who can come back will. Kind of wild we have exactly one junior (Greaves).
-
Need your opinion
-
This is a good idea.
-
With Dilworth leaving take one RS Soph corner off the board
-
I had read that KU signed RB transfer from Iowa.
-
@AsadZ ya quality back built solid
-
DJ Warner to the portal, Logan Brown to the NFL
-
Losing Warner really hurts, big loss. – If we end up losing both Brown and Forster- - -that’s gonna suck , Daniels moves on
-next yr might be a long year?
-
LL going to have to earn his money this season. I’m honestly a bit worried this offseason could get ugly. Off to about as bad of a start as I could have imagined…
-
@Kcmatt7 It’s about to get much worse
-
Morrison enters the transfer portal, stinks I really thought he had some bright moments this season. I strongly disagree with signing the Iowa transfer. We had a solid back still on the roster. This offseason is staring to look very bad. We are going to be in full blown rebuild mode.
-
@Kcmatt7 With the way the NCAA has set up new rules on roster limits down to 105 - -your going to have a lot of PWO’s and walk on’s forced out & then with the fricken NIL which is basically destroying the College game – it’s turned into a huge meat market now - -College sports has truly turned into the minor league of professional sport, Colleges that have small NIL packages are going to get smacked , and smacked hard by departures.
They have made it super simple for a kid now if a Coach yells at a kid and hurts the kids feelings he automatically jumps in the portal, , if the kid feels he should be playing more instead of earning more playing time stepping up the competition for he spot he automatically bails to the portal - -It’s going to get really ugly.
Matt Ruhle from Nebraska gave a perfect example saying he was afraid they were losing in between 30 -50 of their roster - - - holy crap Batman, you realize the recruiting effort it is going to take to recover from a thing like that ? Your going to see more and more College Coach’s getting fed up and just say screw it, I don’t need this type of crap.- -Thanks to the way they have things headed now.

what’s wrong with the Iowa transfer?
-
Trending that JD6 will return
-
@rockchalkjayhawk nothing wrong with him but why waste the time and NIL money when we had a guy that has been waiting in the wings for 2 years.

Since our HS class was so small, can we assume at least a dozen or so more transfers like the Iowa guy are coming in?

Probably 15-18 transfers
-
JD6 back would be big. Was sad to see Morrison leave
-
Grimes to Wisconsin??
-
lots of smoke about JD-6,-- will be interesting if he does return. A whole new set of receivers , an entire new backfield , major changes on the O-Line , No Logan Brown , Bryce Forster – -mercy just gonna be a big challenge
-
@FarmerJayhawk doesn’t scare me a bit if he leaves. Took weeks to make common sense play calls. I’m hearing Andy K, is on the interview list for the vacant WV job.
-
@FarmerJayhawk That’s what the Wisconsin fan sites are reporting
-
@SlimShaddy54 yes I’m very worried as I have mentioned a few time la this season, we could go back to 2 wins very quickly this next season. A rebuild would’ve been okay had this team and staff at least made a bowl. If I’m not mistaken we are set up to return 7 starters as team currently and that’s if more guys don’t transfer. Which I’m hearing from multiple sources a good chunk of this team is transferring out.
-
@focojayhawk @FarmerJayhawk Baylor went from 3-9 with Grimes to 8-4 without him. KU returned a ton of guys and went from 9-4 to 5-7 with him (obviously more goes into that just him). Any logical fan base would be screaming not to hire the idiot.
-
@kjayhawks just from the numbers I can see the appeal. We led the league in yards per play and were elite in the red zone.
-
The Jordan Peterson chatter is getting LOUD
-
I have a feeling we are going to have Mass exodus. Coach L has got his work cut out for him. - I realize I’m just one lil peon, but I’m fighting with myself back and forth with JD-6,
In one aspect I would like for him to come back , experienced , has a cannon of an arm - -sometimes not to the right people but when he is on, he is on - -good dual threat.
However do we want to possibly have one good season with JD , left and jeopardize three years of from what I’ve heard from many Marshal is just another version of JD-6 only faster lots of talent, was the target of many big boys and committed to KU - -what I’m afraid of is if JD- comes back then Isiah is out in a heart beat knowing the way this Portal is and NIL-- he will go some where , where he is the QB gets playing time.- -Either him or McComb which I’ve also heard many good things about will leave if JD returns.
So the question becomes, do we sacrifice three years for possibly one good year if JD returns, or does he move on and Marshal or McComb takes the reins
-
@SlimShaddy54 it’s a no brainer to me. Bring JD back. Receivers will want to play with him and the offense will be more similar to 2022-2023 whether it’s Zebrowski getting promoted or Lubick getting the job. If JD does leave (which as of right now seems unlikely) we’re going after a transfer anyway. Marshall just isn’t ready yet and McComb is a true frosh. Ballard clearly isn’t the answer
-
Fun stat. Lubick improved Nevada’s yards/play from 128th to 61st in his first year. From 4.58 to 5.9. Go get him Lance
-
JD6 IS BACK MOFOS

Yea as much as we were in him early he really got it together.
Still wonder what went on behind closed doors and after the switch to the booth from the sidelines.
Confident we will be okay with out him but I get it.

Agree entirely. Kind of felt like he was just the vessel of everyone’s frustration for most of the year. Whether it’s Z or Lubick, I’m optimistic we can be as good.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Good points, I’m confused though who is Lubick ?
-
@FarmerJayhawk Is Grimes for sure gone at this point?
-
@SlimShaddy54 current Nevada OC, and was an analyst for us before that. Also just a certified badass, turning around a terrible offense while fighting leukemia. He 100% would’ve been the choice over Grimes had his health been better last year. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5848382/2024/10/17/matt-lubick-nevada-leukemia/?source=user_shared_article
-
@kjayhawks oh yeah, he’s on the plan to Madison
-
Gage Keys has returned
-
What a fucking travesty Neal was selected as Honorable Mention running back.
-
Will 2025 be the JD Redemption story? How are we looking at WR, is Doug Emilien returning? He is one of the best blocking WRs we have

Has to be. We’re going to upgrade at OC. I believe so. And we’ll need 2-3 WR and maybe a TE in the portal. Though Hanika is coming back and should surprise some people.
-
Started a separate thread about Grimes because I thought this was just about student athletes and didn’t see the posts here.
Speaking of student athletes, Daniels tied for All Big 12 Scholar or whatever they call it.

Now I’m just mad at him for ever leaving…

Oh ok ,I didn’t know. So have ou heard anything towards Grimes leaving for the Wisconsin job ?-- - If offered you think he takes that job ?- - This guy that you mentioned sounds like he would be a good replacement as long as he can keep us churning , has some inventive plays that would be cool
-

Are you fricken kidding me ? you talking about for the Big Twelve ?- -if it is for the Big Twelve and honorable mention , what a fricking joke. Not even 2nd team holy crap
-
As if people didn’t already know , it’s official now JD-6 WILL be returning next year for us. Just read the article put out by Swain. that’s a good thing with all the transfers and transfers and all this other, he is going to have his hands full though. New OC , entirely new backfield , and entirely new Receiving Corp , New Linemen JD-6 needs to work on his decision making in the off Season and don’t force the ball and end up with so cotton pickin INT’s -I for one am glad he is back
-
@kjayhawks rebuild from 5 - 7?
Yeah, I know what you mean though
-
I think the team will surprise next season… Offense should still be pretty good…Defensive line should be relatively okay. Todd will be good for one of the CB spots.
Obviously needs at WR, DB, LB and pass rush. A TE would be nice. Some OL insurance would be nice. I do trust the staff to land the right guys after these last few off seasons.
-
Here’s the stats for the Big 12 RB’s this season.
Devin Neal had 1266 yards and 16 TD’s rushing along with 24 receptions for 254 yards a 1 TD for a total of 1520 yards and 17 TD’s.
1st Team RB’s were Cam Skattebo (ASU) and RJ Harvey (UCF)
Skattebo had 1398 yards and 17 TD’s rushing and 35 receptions for 468 yards and 2 TD’s for 1866 total yards and 19 TD’s.
Harvey had 1577 yards and 22 TD’s rushing and 20 receptions for 267 yards and 3 TD’s for a total of 1844 yards and 25 TD’s.
The second team backs were Tahj Brooks (Tech) and DJ Giddens (KSU).
Brooks had 1505 yards and 17 TD’s rushing and 28 receptions for 199 yards and a TD for a total of 1804 yards and 18 TD’s.
Giddens had 1343 yards and 7 TD’s rushing and 21 receptions for 258 yards and 1 TD for a total of 1601 yards and 8 TD’s.
Skattebo, Harvey and Brooks are guys I don’t have a problem with being slotted ahead of Neal because their numbers all around were better than Neal’s. Giddens is who I would strongly argue didn’t deserve 2nd team honors and should’ve been Neal because of the TD’s.

It’s as done as done can be short or the release going out. He’s in Madison already
-

Think that’s a smart move, he called the plays during out last Bowl game, him and Coach K , he knew Coach K’s scheme think you will see more option type plays next year.
Watched a couple of KU podcasts - and just as they said having Jalon already say he was coming back and that would be a boost in recruiting saying to recruits/portal He JD-6 is going to b the one running the offense , a you know there are going to be many , many receives in the portal- - they see JD back and they say hey he already knows their offense established I wanna go play with him.
Same way for Coach Z-- it’s a boost for recruiting, knows the system already he it’s a lot better being able to recruit with the targets knowing who the coordinator is going to be - – Smart move, moved quickly
