Finally Some RESPECT: Jayhawks Favored At Baylor

  • @kjayhawks I actually think JD-6 will move on , he losing his boys, the main three receivers his running back – think he moves on and they just try and roll the dice with Marshall

  • Any possibility to upgrade QB in portal

  • @AsadZ Always a possibility I reckon

  • Very stinky

  • Well, we were riding such a high for the last month. Sad to see we couldn’t make a bowl game after the momentum we had. Baylor was also on a big roll though, so not an easy road game. But a bitch slapping was very unexpected.

Now it’s the waiting game to see who comes and goes — both players and staff.

I don’t follow the recruiting side of things, so not sure what’s on the horizon. But lots of you have said we’re losing most of our offense? Ugh.

We’re losing most starters on both sides of the ball. We have 4 starters on offense that could return (Daniels and 3 OLinemen), and 4 starters on defense that could return (1 LB and 3 DLinemen), and our punter on special teams.

KU has 38 seniors total and only 16 commits for next season so far (15 HS and 1 transfer) so if Leipold is making staff changes, they need to happen relatively quickly so they can get to work to bring in some players.

  • I know today was frustrating, but at least we didn’t have to deal with the dumb shit that’s gone on at several games today including the Michigan/OSU game, UNC/NCST game, the ND/USC game, and the UT/A&M game which had fights either during or after the game.

  • Unfortunately as I said above this undoes most of this groups success. Its very scary to think about what next years club could be like. Recruiting trail doesn’t look great with only 16 signees. It will be interesting to see whom transfers out because we know some will. I hope our NIL is healthy because we are going to need to hit home runs at several key positions. I think this season sets us back to 2021 LLs first year. I sit here and wonder if the stadium will ever get finished. I think a best case scenario for next season is 3 wins and don’t see us competing for a bowl game in at least 2 years. Worst I’ve felt since Beaty was here to end a season.

  • it is going to be interesting from what I’m reading, like Matt Ruhle of Nebraska said he says they are afraid of them losing between 30 to 50 players this off Season. I’ve read KU fans talking about how it’s going to effect PWO’S and walk on’s – KU has a lot of PWO’S that continue to develop and see playing time a they advance

This has all got to do I think m I dunno what’s going on something about roster limit / Revenue sharing and possibly NIL - -I’m not sure all I have heard people talking about how things about to change big

  • @SlimShaddy54 I can’t blame anyone that wants to jump ship after this season. We looked very poorly coached for much of it. I think huge staff changes are in order if LL has the guts to do it. Also thinking about it I think you tell JD he has played his last game as a Jayhawk. He was pure garbage 8 of 12 games and turned it over 10 times in the first 5 games that cost us at least 3 wins. The more I think about let’s just cancel the program and get in the big east. This has been a giant waste of time and money. This program is finished.

  • @kjayhawks Just fucking stop with the cancel the program bullshit, joking or not. It’s played out, unoriginal, and just stupid fucking take. Leipold didn’t win 6 D3 titles by accident, didn’t make Buffalo relevant by accident?

Were you spouting this same shitty take after 2006 when KU didn’t make a bowl and lost 4 games they should’ve won as well?

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 in 2006 we actually went 6-6 and were bowl eligible. There just wasn’t near as many bowls as there is now. I wish this team only gave away 4 games, then we’d be 8-4 or 7-5z I hate to break this to you but this isn’t D3 football. We don’t have to argue but mark my words this will cripple this program for a half of decade. Hope the next staff can sustain success.

D3 titles mean Leipold and his staff had to identify and develop talent because the best athletes in the region weren’t banging down the down to go to a D3 school. Those players went there because they weren’t good enough players to play FBS, FCS, or D2 football and Leipold and staff had to develop that talent to maintain that level of success because those are the only 6 titles in that programs history.

And when transfer players are considering KU, they don’t just look at the overall record, they will look and see that KU was very close to being a 10 win team and has lots of playing time available. KU isn’t going to have the on field drop off you think they will next season.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I’m a grumpy asshole today but I just don’t have any optimism left ole friend.

  • I haven’t done a state of the roster in a while. I’ll try to get one done before the portal opens so we can get the lay of the land in terms of portal needs. Also, the 15ish HS class was by design. Filling 30 senior spots with 25 high schoolers in this age would be a DISASTER

Also worth noting Borland only has a team option next season, no guaranteed money.

  • People talking about hoping JD doesn’t come back baffle me.

  • @wissox me as well. Want a full season of healthy Jaylon

Like always, it depends what your options are. 🙂

Unless a portal stud appears, JD seems to be our best option. That being said, I don’t know a thing about that freshman we had in the wings this year,

  • Unless I am mistaken, I think JD was healthy this entire season

  • Of course, I can wait til next September because I’d rather not skip all of spring and summer after we grind through this winter.

  • @AsadZ but he didn’t have a previous healthy yr in front of him.

  • @AsadZ dont think he trusted his body for half the season though

    Below the neck

  • My question is whether JD can play better or what we saw this year is his ceiling.

How much of his play was impacted by injury versus new OC versus his ceiling.

Can JD make more accurate throws especially in the middle of the field?

Next year Neal will not be there so QB throwing the ball will be more critical.

By no means my suggestion is for JD to transfer, just throwing out some points for discussion.

  • @AsadZ IDK, it’s fair to ask, but I’m really in the camp that the first half of the season was partly the new OC’s fault, and JD being rusty, and maybe even still trying to gain his confidence back. In the 4 of 5 game hot streak he played well. Should Lance be able to work the portal well, he may pick up some important pieces to add experience for new targets for JD and new linemen to protect him.

Not sure what happened to Hishaw towards the end of the season, but he’s a pretty good piece coming back.

  • I’m curious about why this guy is sitting on the bench.

    Isaiah Marshall

H.S. Athletic Background 2023: Had 3,114 yards and 39 touchdowns passing with 1,507 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns while leading his team to a state title.

  • @nuleafjhawk he’s not ready yet. He’s talented but needs time. It’s pretty rare for a true freshman to come in and be effective.

  • @FarmerJayhawk can you just stop with sensibility and rationality and let me have my way?😁

  • @nuleafjhawk you’re the yin to my yang 😜

Marshall was only a 3 star recruit so it’s not like he was expected to come in and tear it up immediately. 3 stars generally need a year or two before they start becoming ready to play.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 the “star” ratings aren’t Always the most reliable judge of a player’s ability. 55 tds and 5,000-ish yards in one season says something. He was recruited by a lot of too ranked teams.

HS football in Michigan isn’t the same as Texas, Ohio, Louisiana, Florida, or California. Michigan and Ole Miss were the only highly ranked programs at the time that offered. He was not someone they were looking at with the intention of starting from day 1. He was depth for each program.

Marshall may end up being a really good QB, but he was never expected to be at that level from day 1, including here at KU.
