Beat Silo Tech! Lets save this football season!

  • @rcjhdraft - Screw ups at the end of the game are habitual this year. At least KSU didn’t score before the half. Another loss.

  • Hi, Hollywood? It’s the Kansas Jayhawks here. Yes, i know, we seem to call week after week. Our coaches and staff have run out of dramatic ways to lose games. You know, since we do it every week now. We have to keep the fans on the edges of their seats. Do you have anybody available who can write up a good implosion, tearjerker ending for our fans? Oh, good. Thx. Just make sure the script arrives with about 3-4 minutes to go in the 4th quarter tonight. Oh, and say hi to Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul for us. Our fans are getting almost as good at crying on cue this season. Cheers.

  • This loss will hurt for a while, wanted to beat KCU so baddd and came so close.

  • @AsadZ it will be five years before we have the chance again or longer.

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Beat Silo Tech! Lets save this football season!:

A doinked XP and 29 stepping out of bounds. Man.

Bad teams make losing plays. It makes it so much harder to watch. A bad team that is competitive is so much more heartbreaking to watch than a bad team that’s awful.

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Beat Silo Tech! Lets save this football season!:

@kjayhawks TBD. I hope so. The last couple games he’s shown a lot of good things. Q catches one perfect ball and we’re having a different chat

This is a conundrum. I think it’s hard to bring him back after this season because it feels like it’s time to turn the page.

Talent-wise I get the argument for keeping him. But I genuinely wonder if a year from now he’s the best QB on the roster.

Devil you know vs the devil you don’t…

  • Anyone else just want to throw up this morning

Anyone else just want to throw up this morning

I can’t even be upset anymore with this team because it’s gone from disappointing to literally laughable. Raiders-esk

  • @Kcmatt7 ya I just need to waive the white flag I guess like @nuleafjhawk did

  • I can easily imagine what the feeling would be like if we had dug deep and won them all.

That would have been the furthest thought from mind 4 years ago.

  • @kjayhawks I have loved KU for so long…my house looks like a Jayhawk shrine. But I’ve reached that level of disappointment. Sorry to be a Debbie downer, everyone. But I don’t think it’s unrealistic.

  • Boy, it’s both easy and tough to be down on JD after this game.

He really seemed like he was on his passing and running game. He made some excellent passes — and some really accurate deep passes. That deep ball that was dropped was spot on! I was happy to see he and the receivers seemed to be connecting consistently, finally.

But then that other stuff happened. We had all those good thoughts and feelings like we were gonna win, and then either a pick or a fumble. The pick was irritating, but the fumble was infuriating. Why???

I don’t know how you fix that. Decision making? If you can’t make the right decision after all these years in the program, then it’s likely not gonna change.

The even worse part was that I was just waiting for all this to happen. Give us hope, and KU football fans can’t help but wait for the comically bad to happen. That sucks. Don’t we deserve better?

  • Just like last year, JD tries to make a hero-play. Then it was an injury trying to get an unnecessary extra yard, this time tries to vault a defender while holding the ball out in one hand, resulting in a fumble. Does he understand that at the end of the gamevyou HAVE to protect the ball?

  • @rockchalkjayhawk maybe it’s the price we pay for being so good at basketball for so long. Maybe the day KU opened someone said “you can be good at football or basketball. Pick one” obviously we chose basketball.

  • Even with the mistakes Daniels made last night. He didn’t step out at the 1 or miss a PAT. That’s 3 points right there. That’s the most frustrating thing this year. This team isn’t bad, it’s been a couple of plays here and there that have resulted in 5 of the 6 losses.

This team is so close and to see so many here quitting on this team is disappointing.

Yeah I guess it depends how much faith you have in Zeke. Love Ballard but he’s a break glass kind of guy. And do we want to fish in the portal? Maybe… if a new OC wants to bring in his guy then you definitely consider it. I think JD and Lubick would be a great combo but idk if that’s found to happen.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 See, you and I are looking at the exact same things and seeing them completely differently.

I’d be much more tolerant if we were getting beat by 30 every game. I’d think we don’t have the athletes or coaches (that one is still under consideration). Or if we had major injuries. But we’re loaded with talent. We have absolutely gift wrapped every loss for the opponents. Making bonehead plays.we run when we should pass. We pass when we should run. I’ve never seen what looks like a good team come up with so many stupid ways to lose.

Why the hell would you rather see KU get beat by 30 weekly instead of being competitive? We went through that for a decade. I don’t ever deal with that again. That’s what led to so much apathy wothin the program that KU couldn’t raise the funds needed to renovate the stadium 15 years ago when they forst began trying to modernize Memorial Stadium. Where KU is at now means KU is very close to building something consistent and isn’t something worth bailing on now. This is the time to keep building the program and depth and keep raising funds.

  • Yeah when I was a student at KU from 10-16 things were… bleak. Some games had tens of students there. I think by the end of one big blowout against Baylor it was literally just my friend group and the band on the east side. Probably why I’m so quick to give grace to this group, from almost day 1 things seemed different, culminating in that win in Austin. We’ve come from looking like Hays against KSU to being the better team two years in a row. Nobody asks if I’m wearing KU football gear ironically anymore.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 whatever you think

  • I mean I agree with @Texas-Hawk-10 . I havent been excited about KU football for a decade. I have watched all their games this year. Getting ass kicked is unwatchable.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 There’s the “What if’s” I mentioned at the beginning of the game thread. This one fit the pattern of the season. Another game and 3 very real what ifs. Another one on a holding penalty that felt like a big momentum switch. The safety was the biggest. Led to the deficit being as big as 9 several times instead of 7. Huge difference. We get the ball at the 25 after their first TD and who knows. Instead of KState marches down and suddenly 16 points in about 4 minutes of clock time. It’s not as glaring when it happens in the middle of the game, but other than that ridiculous 4 minutes we outscore them 27-13.

  • @nuleafjhawk said in Beat Silo Tech! Lets save this football season!:

    @Texas-Hawk-10 whatever you think

Sorry I don’t think losing a bunch of close games makes this team worse than the Weis/Beaty teams that couldn’t even beat shitty FCS teams most seasons and was lucky to lose by less than 40 against B12 teams.

But of course, there are many bandwagon football fans here that didn’t suffer through those years because they didn’t want to watch those years and don’t know just how bad it was because all they looked at was a box score.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I’m not one of the bandwagon fans. I’ve been watching for 60+ years. I’ve seen some good teams and a LOT of really bad ones.

If you like watching them lose close games and that makes them more palatable to you - great. I don’t. The continual close game blunders make them look laughable to me. If you tell me honestly that you thought we were going to win Saturday, I’d be surprised. I said I’d rather get blown out because there’s not much emotional “trauma”

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 i’m curious how many people actually watched all of the Gill / Weiss / Miles / Beatty games? What kind of masochist does it take 😀

  • @approxinfinity sigh. Guilty.

“Last night was the game that firmly cemented our place in history as one of the worst college football teams of all time.”

Your exact words about last night. If you think a 2 point loss is what cements this KU team as one of the all time worst teams, then genuinely question how much you paid attention during the Weis/Beaty years because this team isn’t even bottom a bottom 5 KU team of the past decade, let alone and all time bad team, maybe all time disappointing, but nowhere near all time bad.

  • @approxinfinity said in Beat Silo Tech! Lets save this football season!:

Multiple trips to Austin and Waco with a trip to Fort Worth thrown in. Since I graduated in 2010, I’ve been to 3 games in Austin (unfortunately neither of KU’s wins), 4 times to Waco (going to all the Magnolia stuff was how I bribed an ex to go multiple times), I was at the Rice game in 2012 I believe whenever KU came down here amd the UH game a couple of years ago when we weren’t expecting much yet in Leipold’s second season. There was also a TCU games in Fort Worth a few years back. I’ve seen the football team almost as many times as I’ve seen the basketball team in person post graduation.

  • I think there is a lot to take in with this team and why they keep losing. It’s not one group every week, although I think it’s more on the offense at this point. I think the coaching deserves most of the blame. I think the defense has played well enough to win all but the TCU and WVU games. Sadly if JD had played this whole season the way he has for much of the last two games. I think we only have 2 losses right now.

Breaking down what led to our demise last night. First off the Skinner drop is a 100% on the player. I had such high hopes for Skinner this season. As a former walk-on I thought a solid senior campaign with his size and speed he would get some NFL looks. Sadly he has regressed with fumbles and drops.

Secondly the safety, that is a 100% on the staff IMO, if this guy doesn’t know wtf he is doing or where is at on kickoffs in week 9 (bye week) he Shouldn’t on the f**king field period. Our special teams have been absolute shit for over a decade and I’m tired of costing us. We would’ve won 2 more games last season without blunders.

Third situational awareness and play calling. This is another one on the staff mostly IMO. I think Grimes has been better the last 3 weeks at adding some movement pre snap and overall but his play calling at the end of half’s is nothing short of ludicrous most of the time. The first time we got the ball Devin runs for 4 yards on the opening play then we try to pass twice with under 10 minutes…… idiotic. Next series we burn a timeout to stop the clock because we substituted late and defense by rule has to be given time to do the same… once again idiotic. Then JD dives 5 yards short of the line to gain instead of just going down to set up a 3rd and 5. Thats on JD but still stupid. If you run the ball and punt it we likely win the game here with how the defense was playing.

I really don’t have a ton of issue with how the defense played last night. Gave up a few more chunk plays than I’d hope but they did solid for a short field on several occasions.

The issue I have is we may never be in this position again in football. We have 3 or 4 guys that could get their names called on draft day and a handful of others that likely get camp invites. There is just too much talent on this team for us to win 3 games. Someone has to be fired at years end. My vote continues to be Jeff Grimes. As stated above an average offensive output the first 5 weeks and we are bowling right now. Who the f**k runs a flea flicker with an RB averaging over five yards a carry with a lead in the 4th smh

  • @approxinfinity Those games were on TV? Why?

  • @FarmerJayhawk ditto, I’m a KU fan.

  • I’ve taken some well deserved flack over my “I’d rather be blown out than lose by giving games away due to ineptness” attitude. Well deserved because my opinion is not nearly as valuable as others.

Part of it is extreme frustration with this team. Not one of our losses can be attributed to the opponents. Every single one of them was dumbass blunders on our part. Either with stupid plays (Ie; catch the kicked ball on the one yard line and step out of bounds. Miss an extra point. Miss a field goal) - typical plays in every one of our losses this year. Then we have coaching blunders. Pass when we should run and vice versa. Atrocious play calling.

I am not ok with close losses. We are not “competitive”, we are floundering. We’re going in reverse.

    Lance’s record so far:

    2021 - 2-10 (first year - to be expected)

    2022 - 6-7 (Hey! We’re making progress)

    2023 - 9-4 (Holy Smoke - we’re a pretty good team!)

2024 - 2-6 (So far. We have an outside chance of one more W against Baylor. So we wind up 3-9 (or 2-10) with basically the same team that got us 9 wins last year.

Yes, I’m sour on this team.

  • Sounds like entitled KU basketball fans ragging on KU football for lack of continuous excellence imo tbh. Maybe we should all put our lowly true crimson and blue football glasses on and appreciate how special winning seasons are in both sports.

  • I know this , I for ONE am sure no quote Bandwagon fan. As a matter of fact I’ve tried to curb back, I probably over react to games. -I let my love, my dedication even though i’ve never taken any class at KU not smart enough & couldn’t afford to --doesn’t mean I’m not one of the most loyal.- -I let my passion for this School my temper get me in trouble sometimes in the past, even still some.

Some clown make some idiot remark about Ku foot ball or some of past KU Basketball teams failures gets my blood boiling , I let my passion for the School get the best of me. If people wanna challenge me about being a bandwagon fan which none here have, so let’s be clear on that but just saying overall I challenge them come to my house - -check out my man cave with all my Ku things I having on the walls or on cabinets. A KU Bandwagon fan too also would not have a KU tatoo of our mascot on his arm - those just don’t vanish during bad .years . If I’m out and see another wearing KU gear I always make a habit to talk about our team and we will discuss the team and Players

I can remember as a kid when I couldn’t wait until when the Street & Smith Basketball mag would come out so I could look and see if KU was everlisted in the hunt for a Top player-- I remember going through Ted’s lean years where you could pick your seat almost where ever you wanted because attendance was not good I remember going to the Big Eight Holiday tourney in the old Municipal Auditorium meeting Aubrey Nash , The Kivisto Brothers , Bob & Tommy - -Rick Suttle- - -Danny Knight- - -Kelly Knight - - – meeting Dave Robisch Ron Franz - Ronnie Kellog – -Calvin ( Pony Thompson )-- -those were the days
