2024 Coaching Carousel
-
Scott Drew turned Kentucky down and is staying at Baylor.
-
Smart decision imo
-
But UK is THE dream job. Their fans must be beside themselves.
-
The Nos are stacking up. Very enjoyable.
-
A name to keep an eye on for the UK job now is Mark Pope from BYU who was a senior on Kentucky’s 1996 title team.
-
This thing is officially in high comedy status
-
I’m still thinking Beard or Pearl, though thinking it less since they aren’t appearing already in Lexington. These two guys would sell their souls for a buck and lack the brains to realize the suicide committed by going to UK. Perhaps their names come up after a few more NO beatdowns! (lol)
Visit a Kentucky fan site now. I don’t see how anyone could stand that job.
Meanwhile back in Fayetteville… Cal is trying to figure out what to do with the 2-tons of toxic chicken that arrived in his new mansion! You think the players are fed that sh*t?

You wanna hear more funny ? - -being reported from Kentucky sports radio , today was Hurley day gonna call his bluff make him say no- - -I guess reported an offer to him of 100 Million over eight year contract – holy crap – and he STILL TURNED THEM DOWN lmao
-
It’s gonna be Mark Pope
-
bahahahahahahahahaaa
-
Sally Jenkins proposed Dawn Staley in a piece published in the Post today. That would be an inspired choice, and a living hell for Staley, I suspect.
-
Funny seeing them go after ‘old’ men when the next Bill Self/Jay Wright is out there as a 35 year old assistant somewhere who would carve his name into Rupp lore if given the chance.
-
Mass St would burn if we hired a coach that never won a tournament game
-
@FarmerJayhawk KU hired Roy Williams!
-
Evan Fran is on Twitter wondering if the UK fanbase is always this way. Yes Fran, it’s a disease there
-
@wissox yeah, 35 years ago! Things are so, so much different now.
-
@FarmerJayhawk and by “different”, I can only assume you mean “worse”.
-
@nuleafjhawk not at all. Life is much, much better than it was back then
-
@FarmerJayhawk Good for you! Not everyone can say that.
-
@nuleafjhawk well I wasn’t born yet so that helps. But I did just talk to my grandpa the other day since he turned 90 and he and my grandma are in a much, much better way than back then. And I think they’re in the vast majority
-
@FarmerJayhawk I think you may have a better all around attitude than me. I mean, I have a great family and that part is wonderful, but the general state of the world appalls me.
When I was 12, my dad would take me and my best friend to the lake (about 35 miles from our house), drop us off on a Friday evening and pick us up on Sunday evening.
If I heard of someone doing that in these times, I’d do everything in my power to have them arrested and the kids put in protective custody. It’s not a safe place “out there”.
But I do like my air conditioning and streaming TV… so I guess some things are better.
-
@nuleafjhawk I have two minds on that, 1) we see more bad things than we used to just because we see more of EVERYTHING than we used to, so that checks out. 2) crime is way down from what it was back then, so while people felt safer, they likely weren’t. So good and bad to everything I suppose

BYU got a really , really , good hire for their Head Coach. -Phoenix Suns Associate Head Coach-- -Kevin Young is now BYU’s new head Coach. - -Young is the NBA’s Highest paid assistant , really good - - had been mentioned in the last couple of rounds for NBA Coaching job - think they will be happy with him - - Not quite sure how BYU pulled that off
-
Didnt know K-Yo has been doing so well! I dont follow NBA at all. Good for him.

Not the Kevin Young that played for KU.

$$$ and religion is how they pulled that off because Young is Mormon, but this isn’t KU’s Kevin Young.
-
I’m happy Pope is out of the Big 12! Perfect fit at UK.

Didn’t realize that or hear that , but kind of thought the religious might of been part of it & ya I knew it wasn’t KU Kevin Young , although kind of chuckled to myself-- - -OH Kevin .
-
@jayballer67 Since BYU is a private school, they don’t have to disclose the financial details, but he was making $2 million per year as the highest paid assistant coach in the NBA. Young’s contract according to CBS is 7 years, $30 million dollars so a little over double what he made with the Suns.

Wow , ya I’d say pretty decent decision for him–pretty good jump
-
Lakers are targeting Dan Hurley as their next coach and the two sides are going to be meeting to discuss how their visions for the Lakers would look. Hurley has always wanted to coach in the NBA and it sounds like there’s a strong chance the Lakers hire him.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Saw a tweet about this possibly, hopefully (?) freeing up McNeely from his commit there. Commenter on that tweet mentioned Self didn’t really recruit him after he de-committed from Indiana. So IDK, but someone here knows something!
-
Wow, Tony Bennett retiring, effective immediately
-
@FarmerJayhawk very strange time to just up and retire
-
@kjayhawks right? Especially since he just signed an extension in June

I’m guessing either health related, doesn’t sound like his own, or NCAA is about to announce something against UVA.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 that would be a real gut punch. Uva prides itself on being squeaky clean.
-
My guess, and just a guess, is that he’s timing this where no players can realistically leave before the semester. They can enter the portal but schools almost always honor the scholarships through the semester. Plus he can choose his successor.
