Transfer Rumblings

  • When is the team dinner? When are the year end “exit meetings”? Next couple of weeks I’d guess.

I would guess this week. I’d assume all the decisions are made though.

  • @BShark said in Transfer Rumblings:

Some Zeke Mayo talk ramping up lately. Might be nothing. We do need shot takers for next year though.

Ha, how’s about that initial post! Nicely done. Hope the recent rumbling is accurate as well!

  • My guesses is that Self does a major reshuffling.

    STAYING Dajuan KJ Furphy

    LEAVING Hunter McDowell Elmarko Clemence

RESHUFFLING Some of the end of the bench guys will be replaced by guys who can compete for a role

COACHES Guessing Sadler and a bigger name are gone

  • Like I have said earlier, I’m just not convinced Dickinson comes back , and with them going in on or as a article reads how they are turnin up the heat on Cliff Omoruyi from Rutgers - -like it says only intensifies things - Cliff is 6’11 10.4 ppg- - -8.3 rpg- -& 2.p blocks – shoots 51.2 from the field.-- - I’d be ok with him.

I think if Hunter stays and liff comes - -we lose Flory with the ay High School recruits are de-committing these days-It would not be a good --Now if Hunter leaves , Cliff comes and Flory stays - -let KJ play some spot 5 it would be ok.–Cliff is having a zoom meeting this week with Coach Self and entire staff it said , thins could get intense

Read anothr piece from not the Phog BUT Through the phog, he guy predicting who stay – -who goes.

He thinks right now from what he is hearing about 60/40 Johnny i gone-- think Jackson leaves - -he says ya he knows sure at the moment he said he isn’t leaving , but he says what do you expect him to say on the spur of the moment.- - Jackson transfers–McDowell will entr portal , Clemmons gone , - Dickinson gone

Like Fitz was saying with the way the portal is today, you can reconstruct an entire roster in one Season and be a quality team

Look at Alabama in the final four with a totally re-constructed roster this year- -think we are gonna see a lot of change.

Kind of sad , you can’t really get to know the guys really well anymore they either entr the draft and gone or your team gets some NIL offer from another team and they are gone–will be inteesting to see what ends up

  • Kugel is a done deal to Kansas is what I’m hearing, not pleased

yep just read Swains piece - -Kugel is a Jayhawk. - - -I guess this just verifies Bsharks post yesterday even more-- Meyo ends up at Creighton-- were not getting Mayo and Kugel both

  • Definitely need another guard with Furphy’s future up in the air. I’d be happy to take Zeke then wait until guys pull out of the draft for the other two spots

  • I’m just not impressed everything I read or hear is he is a nut case and a thug last thing we need is another Morris

  • @kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:

I’m just not impressed everything I read or hear is he is a nut case and a thug last thing we need is another Morris

I think there is a very big discrepancy with being a bad or frustrated teammate like Kugel and a criminal like Morris. I’d refrain from using the thug word to this guy.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Ball dominant guards will not move off the ball to come here……I supposedly repeat things a thousand times but here we are struggling with this one

  • @TYOHawk It is a bad sign character wise but quitting on a team versus what turd bucket did are definitely two different things

He’s an athletic guard and his shot looks fundamentally sound hopefully Bill doesn’t quick hook him and unlocks him

Yeah I’m not against criticism but it has to be measured. What likely happened is Kugel started believing his hype from Nike camp and seeing his name on a few mocks…got disappointed at his performance this season and sulked throughout being benched.

  • Perhaps Kugel should see if he can get to a pro tryout and get feedback. Seems to have worked well for other KU players. He’ll hopefully come back with a purpose.

  • @kuballin10 said in Transfer Rumblings:

@Texas-Hawk-10 Ball dominant guards will not move off the ball to come here……I supposedly repeat things a thousand times but here we are struggling with this one

Really, because basicall every player you’ve tried to named as supposedly a miss has been primarily an off ball player like LJ Cryer. Makes me think you don’t know what a ball dominant player actually is and all you look at is a player’s height to determine their position.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 What was said on here is he wanted to be on ball and main guard only for him to pick Houston and play off ball

  • @kuballin10 said in Transfer Rumblings:

@Texas-Hawk-10 What was said on here is he wanted to be on ball and main guard only for him to pick Houston and play off ball

Which means Dejuan Harris wasn’t the real reason Cryer didn’t come here because Cryer was never going to be the lead guard with Houston either over Shead. That tells me that Cryer didn’t come to KU for reasons other than Dejuan Harris. That reason being a genuine screw up by the staff in choosing Arterio Morris for whatever reason.

Exit meetings were all done by Thursday I believe. The zoom call with Kugel happened then and it was basically a done deal they just had to put his NIL package together.

  • Also I think I’m about to be wrong on Zeke Mayo…

Bill is on a heater if he pulls off what he is gunning for. Trilly said he expects KU to get Zeke, Cliff and a portaler to be named later as well.

In this case, Zeke is likely a back-up. INSANE STUFF.

  • @BShark I talked with someone the other night about the big situation and there’s some frustration Hunter won’t say hey I’m coming back here fairly soon. He’s been through the process, and the feedback won’t change.

I could take or leave him honestly. Have heard the expectation is that he will come back. But if he doesn’t…eff it add two bigs instead we move.

The problem is that if there is a lot of turnover, we are more likely looking at a repeat of this year. HCBS runs a system - which is most (only?) effective with a lot of experience. The HCBS teams that have made deep tournament runs have been with rosters comprised primarily of guys that have played multiple years at KU…

If you look around College Rosters now days - -the days of a roster staying in tact for 2-3 years is over due to NIL and jjust the way the portal has made available–Totally diffeerent era now

  • Shoot if we can pull it off and get Zeke & Cliff along with Kugel and a portaller----dam Bill strut that FElla- -

Fair enough I can see that for sure (no sarcasm - being honest here)

  • @BShark Cliff’s tape is insane (athleticism). Hunter leaving or kj transferring or Flory decommit ting? We get Cliff we got too many bigs…

Zeke I feel bad for he can come in and out perform Juan at pg but will never start. We will hear fodder about how he doesn’t know the offense or run it as well then we will watch the games and all the metrics show offensively we are better when he’s in for d2….i can see it already

Still rejoicing if we get him @BShark

You’ve mentioned Wade Taylor and Tyrese (assuming Hunter)……either would be great but I’m hearing Taylor isn’t gonna be a legit option. Portal guard tbd later means a legit player most likely

  • @DCHawker Don’t bring up the obvious Ive banged this drum for 1,000 times per @Texas-Hawk-10 lol

It’s very true though and wow Hurley is running circles around college ball with what he’s changed philosophy wise.

Instead of practice defense they are working an extra 10-15 minutes on offense and cutting and being so precise and efficient that they won’t be stopped

Only thing stopping them isn’t available in March (a game at AFH)

  • @rcjhdraft If Furphy leaves Liam needs to come on down….

He is one of the best shooters in the class you don’t wait for a portal guy. Saw someone say similar to not wanting Dillingham so we could go portaling last year….some freshman can legit contribute

I as everyone knows don’t trust the staff to figure out this dilemma correctly based on recent results

The Hunter situation for me depends on other dominoes.

We absolutely NEED Hunter to stay if we don’t bring in any automatic plug in scorers.

    If not, he’s our guy.

  • @rcjhdraft said in Transfer Rumblings:

    They play different positions entirely.

  • My opinion on the Cliff thing is it just feels so unlikely to me. Started every game for the last 3 years and he’s going to be okay with being a back-up? Guessing we end up with a less splashy name there.

  • @kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:

I think KU likes him a lot, but he probably wants more of a role than KU can offer.

  • KU has reached out to Hofstra wing and former ISU player Darlinstone Dubar. Averaged 17 and 7 this year and played well against the better teams on Hofstra’s schedule putting up 24 points on 8 of 13 shooting against Duke, 23 points on 10 of 17 shooting against St. John’s and 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting against AAC regular season champs USF.

This is a guy that looks like he could be a pretty good piece for KU next season.

Asked about him and same problem as Yesufu and Timberlake. Can’t remember plays if the coach told him 2 minutes ago.

Agree. Seems like they are pursuing the best kind of backup option in case the Hunter situation cannot work out in their favor with timeline or whatever. I also fail to see him coming here for a backup role if Hunter returns. His film is fine if you need a 10 and 8 guy but if you’re looking for a 20 and 10 guy he is not that.

  • If Hunter returns and Flory is locked in no matter what, your 3rd big is probably a younger type that’s ready to play backup minutes but perhaps upside to start in 25-26? I don’t know, it’s hard to look past any single year now with any player. Either they are ready to help you now or it doesn’t matter.

If Hunter does return your probably seeking someone with a slightly different skillset then him. Perhaps an Athletic bruiser with more mobility to defend pick and roll etc.

So your talking about someone who can move and defend actually a pick and roll. - Dickinson was such a huge liability when having to play away from the basket - made spacing bad on the offensive end , clogging the middle - Big/slow/ and not that athletic. - Think pretty good reason they have reached out to cliff – maybe not a much offensive – still quality , much more mobile /athletic and really good rim protector. - -I still think Dickinson is gone ,eactly the reason they have reached out to Cliff , cause like you said I don’ think Cliff would come here to come off the bench, and the Staff knows that, and knows quite possibly that Dickinson is gone

  • @jayballer67

I’m just trying to figure out what they would want in another big. You’d figure if Hunter is back you need someone that isn’t the same, so you have a different look to give defensively at minimum.

Well defensively anyways Flory gonna give you that- -exceptional rim protector, much more athletic If Dickinson doesn’t come back and I think your seeing more and mor fanbase starting to say they don’t care if he comes back or not- - -BUT if he didn’t come back, you get Cliff to come and he would then start , good rim protecter , good rebounder, hell can’t be any worse rebounder on the offensive glass then Dickinson more athletic then Hunter , quicker, mobile then Fory back him up for the year, and then you could even have KJ for spot duty at the 5 if needed, I think that could work for sure and we would be good with that combo

  • Can we get the whole damn UCONN to transfer to KU? And the coach?

Pharrel Payne is one to watch closely.

  • Just from a numbers perspective we’re losing two bigs, so it makes sense to add two.
