Transfer Rumblings

Until recently believe it’s illegal for coaches and the school to be involved in the $ but with the NCAA continuing to be shut down from getting involved in that business it may be something that a coach can have some influence on going forward.

Forgive the potentially ignorant questions. Is it possible for Self to think a player isn’t worth the NIL money anymore? Is it possible to ever pull/reduce any offer for a player for next year?
Just asking so I can potentially hope to never see HDick in a KU uniform every again.
Something I was saying in the Season , and through the Season. — Hunter Dickinson was just a bad fit for us. - Now seeing many others now saying what I’ve been saying.
Hunter Dickinson although a good player was a bad fit- - -and it showed, Hunter is a liability on defense, gets beat repeatedly, suer gets rebounds but a lot of those rebounds practically fell in his lap, NOT a good offensive rebounding guy at all - -Actually we had NOBODY that was good at being aggressive to go to the offensive glass.
Hunter was not a guy that demanded the ball, kinda like THAT’S MINE, a guy that would just go get the ball, a lot of his rebounds would either hit the floor and bounce his way or simply because of his what 7’1 frame.
We need a guy who loves to bound - -like a Dennis Rodman or a Daryl Dawkins somebody that i just gonna take it - -give it to me attitue . Hunter was - just Big & slow real defensive liability on the perimeter . -He is more then likely coming back , just hope his foot speed can improve - - doubtful but maybe

This guy looks fun https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/cade-tyson-1.html
-
Louisville losing their 7th player to the portal- Maybe we could look into this kid as a quality kid coming off the bench.
Mike James , 6’5 G - 4 * - top 100 kid. - -Averaged 12.6 , pretty decent shooter. - -maybe check into Skyy Clark also in the portal. - If I remember right pretty decent playr coming out of High School

Indiana has their talons in. Thinking there or back home to the carolinas.
-
12 3’s from 25 ft and deeper. Really good shooter, not a great athlete… Always the give and take
-
North Carolina is the favorite.
-
Looks like our old friend Marcus Adams is on the move yet again…
-
HD Garrison and Flory all on the roster at the same time would be interesting
-
@BShark is McNeeley still on our radar?
-
Boom. There’s Zeke Mayo. Wouldn’t shock me at all if he came home.

This has much much more traction than I would have thought based on old convos. IF KU swings hard, it’s over.
-
Not sure I would agree with KU going hard for him tbh. I wouldn’t want him to be a starter.
-
He’s a take for me. We’re going to need volume of guys too.
-
I am interested to see what kind of guys we can get considering most of the starting lineup is spoken for.

Same
-
@kjayhawks The same Perry Ellis that everyone hated until his Senior season?
-
He can shoot. 3/4 of our lineup may still not know how to. Had 19 against Iowa St in the tournament. Can’t imagine he’s not good enough. We just had a bench full of guys that couldn’t do jack.
-
Mayo’s teammate is also in the portal and KU is sorta involved.
-
Good, talented dude too. Position of need as well

Love his archetype man.
-
@TYOHawk same. I know it’s not a super popular opinion now in the age of hash tag #moderngame but bigs who can protect the rim and really rebound are still very, very useful.
-
@BShark I tend to agree I’d rather have Rogers from WSU personally. Now if he is willing to be more of a roll player, I’m fine with that.
-
Honestly if we get a bunch of mid major guys it doesn’t look good for us in recruiting. I feel like Kevin Young is the only mid major transfer that worked out here.
-
K-Yo was great, loved watching that guy play. Could run up and down the court like a gazelle and had some mad hops! He’s a great guy too, happily took a pic with me after one of the games. Always a smile on his face.
-
Zeke Mayo would be an ideal bench guy if he’d be willing to take that role at Kansas. A good shooter (37% or better from 3 every season), has good advanced metrics, and comes from a winning program. The biggest concerns with him are his defense and his high turnover rate.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 So he’s probably a step above d2 right now who can’t defend, beat his man off the dribble, score from deep and turns it over
Zeke can at least score and shoot from the outside no?

Don’t know why you keep hating on D2 when Cam Martin left after last season.

cause ballin probably held his private little raffle and drew his name out of the hat and rewarded himself by saying I’m get to rag on him ALL YEAR- -he has no reason – it’s ballin we have seen it all year from him - or maybe it’s a her who the hell knows

Tyler Kolek, Mark Sears, and Tristen Newton are all mid-major transfers - working out pretty well for their teams. Graham and Mason worked out pretty well for us.
Don’t know why we are swinging and missing more recently…
-
@DCHawker Graham and Mason weren’t transfers not saying one is bad but us if that’s all we can get it doesn’t look or sound good to me
-
Hearing we are gaining traction with Dante Maddox from Toledo. He has heard from several schools none as big of a name as Kansas

Sorry I don’t keep up on a lot of players on other teams - -Is he any good ? - -is he that starter we might be looking for or is he a quality guy coming off the bench for depth ?-- As we need both. - -Stats ?
-
Good Grief Eddie Lampkin from Colorado is entering the Portal - -Again. --See some of these kids are just making a mockery of the system. - -
Lampkin accused Jamie of being a Racist - -like the post said evidentially Tad is too. - somebody steps on a kids toe’s hurts their feelings it’s like - -OH I’m gonna hit the portal - -total BS , that is not what it was intended for.
-
@jayballer67 Who pays the damn moving expenses? And tuition? If I just paid 5 grand to move a kid across the country, I’d be trying to get some retribution if he up and transferred right away.
-
@nuleafjhawk tuition is the same it has been for like 75 years
-
Riley Kugel a name to watch for Kansas. Rumblings Bill taking a trip to see him tomorrow.

The film is intriguing

Liam is also down in Florida. 2 birds one plane trip perhaps.

Like this type of flyer. Bad this season but nba talent is there
-
@FarmerJayhawk ???
My kids are 8 years apart and their tuition was VASTLY different
-
@nuleafjhawk same people pay it, the AD in the case of student athletes.
-
@BShark I’m hearing he is a complete nut case
-
@DCHawker Bill loves his pets…his eye for talent along with the assistance isn’t strong.
He does promise certain guys minutes which deters others from even entertaining us….exact opposite of what we’ve all thought
It’s why d2 still has a job
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Cam stayed and played at a d1 school so props to him
D2 would play at mo st or something along those mo valley lines
-
@kuballin10 yeah its too bad Self wasted time on other mid major players like Frank and Devonte. What clunkers!
-
@FarmerJayhawk Ok. My point is it’s like constantly hiring and training new employees, no matter what occupation. It’s expensive and time consuming. In my opinion there needs to be a limit to how many times a student athlete can transfer unless they absorb all the costs.
-
@kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:

Yeah he is a bit crazy.
Tomorrow may have been premature but Bill should be taking a recruiting trip to Florida soon-ish.
-
@nuleafjhawk ok, I’m just saying scholarships and where that money comes from hasn’t changed in either of our lifetimes.
-
Listened to a little piece in transfer portal pod cast - -all about Zeke Mayo last ed like 7:30 .
Basically talking about best fit and saying if Zeke came to KU— what would he play along Juan at the 2 ? - saying they think that would be a bad fit, and saying if your Zeke mayo what would you rather do , play the two along Juan OR play on ball? - saying if they were Zeke they think on ball would be a better fit… They did say he could play the two - -that he was a bucket getter shot well.
Then again posed the question ok if your Zeke you play either along side Juan OR would you rather play on ball at the One with Tang and K/State looking at the success that Tang have had with Marquese Nowell and then Perry this year. – If Tang told him they wanted him to come play the One. Then they ask about any other possible fits , and said maybe Florida would be a good fit - -possibly Auburn - -then asked at the end of the day where they thought he would land- - both said even with everything else they thought he would end up at KU.
Guess he is good friends with Devin Neal - - home town kid - -grew up going to KU basket ball camps , pretty close to another kid but dammit can’t remember the name- -going to be interesting
