Manhattan Jaspers, Who?

  • Still playing 4th set in Ames.

  • Ole Bill likes what he has. All defined roles this early, already good chemistry, strong team defense. It might be rough the nights we don’t shoot great but we’re #1 for some good reasons.

  • We play Chaminade on my birthday!!!

  • Don’t think we saw Kev/Juan/HD after the 13 minute mark. LOVE that. Team also won that stretch by 5 and probably closer to 10 before the major walk-on minutes.

  • 5th set in Ames. Go Hawks

  • Back to students sitting courtside (for the last time this year), Michigan St is like Cameron in that the first 10 rows around the court is student seating. The section above the student seating is elevated so the alums can sit and still see if the students stand. A thread on Rupp Rafters discussed the same thing I mention and the posters complained there was no energy for most games at Rupp with the alums sitting courtside. Nuff said.

  • I just wanna say and don’t take this wrong and I realize the opponent but I think e have some back up players that can really give us some help for periods of time without a lot of drop off.

1st, I am really liking Furphy. He shows no hesitation , got a nice shot and looks solid. you realize this kid is still suppose to be in High School right? - -Parker Braun is little athletic - -little better then what I thought - -I realize Jackson hasn’t been a back up but very solid - - McDowell did ok for the time he was in. They just played solid , but I’m impressed with Furphy

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich I’m not good at math but does that mean we’re averaging 99 points a game? What if we do that all season?

  • Then it means our defense only needs to be half decent for us to rule the world.

Also, saw someone call Johnny “The Wizard of Aus” and I’d like to express my support for that

Hanni busted this out on the radio broadcast

  • Also shout out to Elmarko who had 10 assists and 9 points tonight

  • Almost done watching game. Great showing by the boys. Ready to see how we stack up against Kentucky. Really happy we have a legit freshman class. Hopefully we get to watch them develop for a couple years.

  • Fuuuurphy!

    I told ya’ll!

I’m going to amend my preseason lineup thoughts.

    PG: Harris

Furphy / Furphy / Furphy / Furphy fills out the rest!

He’ll need somebody to guard the little ones, set him up for 3s, lobs.

    Nicely done Furphy.

As usual, a downer note or two: We’re gonna need to score down low more often with Hunter. Post it, brotha. no more 8 footers. no complaints about his shot from distance, but we’ll need him inside more at some point.

OK, first good look at Jamari. Does he have hops? Maybe that’s why the Travis comparisons? Not evident tonight. But liked his game otherwise.

Loved the KJ actions. Dunk city. Elmarko teased us with some quickness to the hoop a few times. nice. Jeez, just saw that he had 10 assists! awesome for him. Nick cannot play D. He’s gonna get the hook a lot when big boy athletes are in front of him. He never quite got set for his release from 3 today either.

Great all around game from McCullar.

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich

His passing certainly flashed tonight. Need his trajectory to keep moving forward because he’s a heck of a talent if he figures it out.

  • Some random thoughts.

Will Furphy become an OAD? I had read that NBA teams were raving his potential.

I would love to see Elmarko use his speed and drive more to the basket.

Hunter was solid on D in this game. How will he defend quality Bigs remains to be seen.

    Can Timberlake improve his D.

HCBS seems to have lost a lot of weight, he is looking good.

  • @AsadZ

I think Timberlake will improve his D plus he had 5 or 6 boards. He is one sweet swisher who doesn’t force anything.

  • Juan will get his props from the Big 12 writers and coaches. He is an elite defender and is magic finding the open guys. I think he will reward us with clutch scoring too. McDowell is a big guard who excited me with his poise and no fear play. Elmarko is just good. Johnny Baskets says hello world!

  • Lets see how Furphy fares against the B12 grind. I think he is going to get muscled around, and will need to build up his body another year.

  • I sure hope our Johnny Baskets has more success and is a better person than Johnny Football. Maybe we shouldn’t hang such a loaded nickname on this young man.

It’s Furphy time! He’s a beast!! Enjoy the ride.

  • @BShark Care to pass this along to your staff contact? 25’s a better athlete and his stroke is smooth.

If he learns to attack some he will be a huge asset.

Also, can someone tell Hunter after you hit 1-2 threes to then pump fake, drive and either hit the floater, dunk it or if KJ’s man comes to help it’s a lob all day.

We could legit have Jokic type and I clearly overreacted to the exhibitions as we looked awful but granted our competition these last two games is bad

Least we will play legit guards with uk

  • @kuballin10 I haven’t seen many positive signs there. He regularly gets beat badly on defense and looked liked he didn’t belong on offense against Manhattan. Hopefully he can turn things around but early returns are rough.

  • Thankfully he’s the 7th or 8th guy so it doesn’t matter too much.

  • @BShark I share your assessment

  • @BShark Yeah furphy and Braun need to be first off the bench. Jamari honestly should next and Timberlake spot minutes until he proves something.

He had a legit dunk or two last year and we thought he was more athletic than he appears to be

  • Lets let it breathe. Position battles are won at practice. Im sure it will shake out.

For sure, there is a reason Elmarko is starting. Glad he showed out a bit I think he can be special.

  • @BShark I think so too. Glad he got into the starting 5 early. We may not feel short-staffed by end of the season if our post-season form gels early.

Dickinson is KU’s best player right now. Elmarko Jackson has the highest ceiling of anybody on KU. There’s a reason why many 2024 mock drafts have him as a potential lottery pick.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I disagree, I think Mccullar is KU’s best player right now. But it’s hard to imagine success without either of them.

  • It’s a positive to have an argument on who the best player is on the team. Great teams like 08 and 22 championships you literally could’ve said 3 or 4 different guys were the best and you wouldn’t have been wrong on a given night.

  • If Kev keeps shooting 42% from 3 on 6 attempts per game he’s going to win the Naismith (he won’t buuuuut could you imagine??)

  • @FarmerJayhawk His jumper looks much more in flow and smooth this season. Last season he had a hitch in it, he’s put some hours in the gym this offseason no question.
