Chiefs signings

Just read that Jones has signed one year deal with Chiefs, terms were not shown.
This is great news.
-
@AsadZ Source?

everywhere
But uh https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1701345370855411949
-
@AsadZ I’d have felt a whole lot better about this if it was 5 days ago.
-
I wonder how that all works? Chiefs were tight against the cap before Chris got a raise.
-
@BShark When I wrote that, it was not on ESPN NFL site, CBS NFL site, Chiefs USA Today site, or NBC Pro Football Talk. I do not use Twitter!
-
@dylans I think performance bonuses do not count against the cap.
-
@mayjay Not this years cap. That’s correct.
-
@dylans I should have acknowledged that since the contract isn’t long-term with a huge percentage of it being a signing bonus amortized over the full-term, you are right: the Chiefs do not gain extra cap room in the future to sign FAs.
No word yet on if Jones can get tagged next year? Kicking the can down the road, I guess. I also wonder about guaranteed amounts…is Jones betting on free agency and accepting an injury risk for 1 year?
Lots we don’t know!
-
@dylans @AsadZ Ok, details have been released. Same base salary for this year of $19.5 million, plus @ $6 mil in possible perf bonuses so he can make up his fines.
Free agent next year, but KC still has franchise tag available.
No word on any guarantees.
-
So CJ essentially got a small consolation prize for holding out and no additional leverage for next year. All that drama for nothing.
What Non-QB has held out and actually gotten the deal they were after?
-
@Kcmatt7 Bosa just last week, if holdouts include the preseason.
-
It really seems stupid to pay 3.6 million in fines to get this contract. If he just showed up when he was supposed to and contractually obligated too he’d be money ahead essentially. Could you imagine if the team acted similarly, Toney had a bad game Thursday so the team says you ain’t playing again til you agree to less money.
-
Restructured Thuney’s contract to free up > $8 mil in salary cap:
-
@kjayhawks I have a feeling that CJ got bad advice from his agents I don’t have verified information but based on chain of events I can’t think of other reason for this messed up situation.
-
@AsadZ Katz schmucks messed Chris around.
-
@mayjay Not thrilled about restructuring Thuney’s enormous contract (the contract that I feel is 70% of the reason for tyreek Hill’s departure). Like the player. Don’t like that much of the cap tied up in a guard.
-
@dylans Hill was and continues to be one of the best receivers in the NFL but I still think he is a ticking time bomb and likely ends up in jail at some point.
-
@kjayhawks Because of the fake KC Star story about his kid? Or because of that ex of his that was trying to entrap him for money? Ehh maybe for another poor decision down the road, but most of his recent problems have been fabricated. He’s no saint, but I doubt he’ll get into that much trouble.
Football players as a general rule attract aggressive people, so it never surprises me when one gets in a little trouble with the law. - Hard to overcome the football player-rapist stigma.
-
Ironic discussion after the marina incident in Miami this summer where Hill slapped a worker trying to remove him from a boat he illegally boarded. Paid the guy off, so no charges.
The child abuse investigation led to no charges because they could not determine who broke the kid’s arm, not because they decided he didn’t. And his language telling the mom she “should be terrified” of him is a bit disturbing.
I am going with time-bomb, myself.
-
@dylans my response is line with what @mayjay has just said. I’m sorry but the guy doesn’t seem like a stand up citizen in any light. After hearing some of his podcasts and interviews I can definitely see why the chiefs didn’t have him available for media. One common denominator in all of his accused issues, some proven, some not is him.
-
Ehh. Tyreek is a piece of shit. Wish he was more of an exception is more my point. Football doesn’t attract the best people. Rosters are huge - some are good people, too many aren’t.
-
Only cuz i dunno where else to post this
Chiefs at home vs. the Bears this week.
The Bears are bad. I’d sit Kelce, let him heal his body and mind. Get him ready for the rest of the year.
-
Bears were supposed to contend, folks are high on Fields.
I don’t think Reid will sit Kelce. Without him Offense looks non-cohesive, perhaps limit his snap count or rest him on 4th quarter assuming game is in the bag.
-
Yea, i don’t think he’ll sit, either. But, i’d rather take my chances against the Bears with Kelce out, than have him hurting the rest of the year. But, who knows if that’d even help. Need him to be rock solid.
-
Chiefs currently a 12.5 point favorite.
-
Bears D coordinator resigned citing personal health issues, wish him recovery.
-
Hearing Jets Mercole Hardman may be on the market. Would be a nice addition.
-
As long as price is good, 7th rnd pick as an example.
-
Is he healthy?
-
@AsadZ Could’ve had Claypool for a 6th and got a 7th back. I don’t think I would trade anything for Hardman…unless they want Clyde. Hardman and Mahomes never had that good of chemistry.
-
I saw this last night, pondered a bit. IMO adding Mecole Hardman solves nothing, adds more chaos to the lack of a true No. 1 WR issue.
Would i take him? sure?? Maybe he can be a deep threat, but seems more like a catch and run gadget mostly. He’s got more experience than the rest of our crew, so he’s got that going for him!
And i see that Van Jefferson was offloaded by the Rams. Interesting.
-
Agree with @rockchalkjayhawk I don’t think it really helps the chiefs at this point. To me he is the same guy as Sky Moore, they have to hand him off the ball repeatedly to get him touches because he has drop issues. The chiefs currently lead the NFL in dropped passes and Hardman doesn’t help that IMO. If you could trade for a Mike Evan type I’d be interested in that him being in the last year of his contract.
-
Sounds like Mecole Hardman is on his way back to Kansas City.
Thoughts?
-
me likes me some mecole.
-
If he’s healthy, ️
-
It’s not costly with minimal cap hit
I like the move, he knows the system and can provide deep threat.
-
Yeah, price seems right and just for the year if it don’t work out
-
Well, I’d like to take back anything I may have said negatively about adding Mecole.
Totally forgot he could be a return man, too!
-
And with Bolton out, does that open the door for Frank Clark?

Different position.

Any news on Bolton? His replacement is good. He was hurting!

Yea, we seem to be deep at LB, so thought it opened up a roster spot.

Dislocated wrist.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I just saw that. Gonna need that wrist!

Chiefs are deep enough at pass rusher that I don’t really think they should bother with Clark. I think he is worse than just about everyone else at the roster for that.
-
Chiefs signed DL and former Chief Mike Pennel to practice squad, and released Dan Arias, a WR. No word on Frank Clark that I could find. Maybe they are waiting for info on his machine gun inventory?
-
@mayjay medical tests
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Nope… Instead:
-
Ah, thought he was a Chief for sure. That’s fine though.
