Pregaming Illinois

  • Tradition says go to the football game until its outcome looks fairly certain and then leave. Tradition says go to a basketball and stay until the end, no matter what. KU is a basketball school, and unfortunately football has a lot of ground to make up.

  • I’ll say this about this game. - -I’m not nearly as leery of this game as I was, I actually like our chances . I don’t think you will have to worry about the student section Friday, I got this feeling the place is gonna be loud. - -I think it will sell out - -well on the way now, and I think we gonna be loud , team gonna be ready.

I like the 3nother line I saw was Ku & 2 - -gonna be a dog fight but I think we got this I’m not that impressed with their QB - -New QB , he is on the road , as long as we don’t just come out and flat an egg, were gonna be good… I’ll take our offensive against theirs any day of the week.

It could turn into a track meet but I think we will have that extra pair of new shoes our defense will make that stand and we win - -our key this Season is to BELIEVE - -we got to BELEIVE in this team and our Coach’s times are changing here in Lawrence Ks - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG

  • @nuleafjhawk wanna hear about your experience! 💙🌾❤

  • Side note: I looked up the definition of pregaming and found it defined as I would use the term tailgating. So, I’m using pregaming just to mean talking about the game before the game, with or without your favorite alcohol beverage.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 It was Awesome!! Everything about the evening was great! Great crowd, great company (my son), great game (in my opinion), great seats, great parking (thank you @FarmerJayhawk !). Even the traffic was pretty decent. Can’t wait to go again.

  • @nuleafjhawk I thought it actually felt like a football crowd, and I’ve been to A LOT of KU Football games. The last time I thought the stadium felt that loud and full (I didn’t get to go to a game last season so I don’t have that to compare to) was Charlie Weiss’ first game if that tells you anything…

  • @nuleafjhawk yay!! Glad it all worked out for you all. Come back more often!

  • @nuleafjhawk makes me 😄😍

  • Shouldn’t be any reason and I think it will be, BUT not any reason why this game won’t be a sell out. - -Not a holiday weekend, ya I know high school football but even at that I just feel this will sell out.

Nice opponent from the premier league supposedly -BIG , and a very winnable game if we don’t wet all over ourselves. -should be jumpin students I know will be ready - -we need to be ready, let Illinois know that YES KU DOES HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM. --I’m ready - - ROCK CHALK

  • @stoptheflop I think you’ll see that most the time once the outcome isn’t in question. Been to KSU games twice when a buddy had free tickets and it was the same way.

  • In terms of the game, I’m looking for some improvement on the defensive side of the ball. I wasn’t pleased with letting up 17 to a team that only scored more than 25 points twice last season in FCS. Missouri Valley is an absolute murderers row of conference and I’d bet good money they don’t go .500. Hopefully we have another good crowd on hand for the black out, that will be important for Illinois first road game. The keys to victory are simple to me. Contain Altmyer, keep JD 6 up right and win the turnover battle. Do those 3 things and we will have another victory. I feel like this is a must win to get back to a bowl game. BYU, UCF and Cincinnati were all games I thought we could win but after watching us and them last week. We will be lucky to win one of those games (BYU would be the only one I’d predict). We may have to start 4-0 to get there.

  • Fun fact KU has a 2-3 record all time vs Illinois, including a 24-6 victory in their only meeting in Lawrence. That game took place in 1892 before basketball made it to the university.

  • @kjayhawks I think we beat all 3. They won’t get better throughout the year. G5 schools can compete with the P5 usually in their first strings but they just don’t have the depth to deal with injuries that come up. Cincy, especially after losing a ton to the portal, could have a really rough second half.

I agree I think we at least 2 out of the 3. I see u beating BYU & Cinn - -might have some trouble with UCF. BYU was lucky to win and even at that only put up 14 points in the win. - -I still think our team is going to surpris some people

  • Was listening to an Illinois podcast. They was talking a lot about the KU offense & Jalen. Talking about how they feel a big key was being able to get into the KU backfield, trying to put pressure on Jalen.

They it is a must, saying that they can not allow Jalen time back there and go through all his reads, talking about going to have to have an attacking defense. Another thing is they feel they are going to really establish their running game do a much better job running the ball as their two backs only combined for 88 yards rushing against Toledo. They said they have to control the ball , keep Jalen and the KU offense off the field, use time consuming drives cause they said KU is gonna put up points , saying that Jalen could still get 300 yards passing. - Just hope to get pressure on Jalen maybe get a strip fumble saying turnovers are going to big. Hoping maybe get a strip , maybe pressure get a flutter pass for INT.

Saying that looks like their best defender is going to be out and how the defense is going to have to step up - Gonna be interesting

  • OK going to make my prediction for Friday, I DO think we will run the ball, if we can get our run game going, get some RPO’S then i think we can be good. We have got to get it established though so they just can’t tee off on Jalen. - -But my prediction was pretty close last week - -see how it goes this week . I’m going to say KU 38 - -Illinois - -31 - -we shall see.

Like they said on their pod cast Illinois doesn’t want to get into a track meet with Ku. Illinois just not bult for that , that’s why they are saying they have to control the clock and keep KU offense on the side lines. --ROCK CHAL ALL DDAY LONG BABY

  • @FarmerJayhawk I absolutely plan on it. And now I know where to park!

  • @FarmerJayhawk I know Satterfield struggled at Louisville, but I still think that was a good hire for Cincy. I do think it will be interesting to monitor them as the season goes on.

  • @FarmerJayhawk @jayballer67 i hope y’all are right

  • Ok my KU friends , close enough to game time - -time or some predictions I’ve made mine yesterday saying KU 38- - Illinois - -31- -so what you think let’s hear ya

  • Good guys 42 - other guys 23

  • @nuleafjhawk turned over a newleafjhawk! ❤🌾💙🏈

  • I think it’ll be relatively low scoring. 31 23 good guys

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Speaking of new leaves - I think somewhere down the line I’ve at least mentioned that my (now 32 year old) son graduated from K-State. He was never into sports, so he didn’t care AT ALL about my obsession with KU. When I say he wasn’t into sports - he lived one block from the football stadium in Manhattan. ONE block. He never went to a single game.

Friday night, he’s singing the Alma Mater song, the Rock Chalk chant, he’s waving the wheat after every score. My jaw was on the ground. And he was INTO the game. Jumping up - fist in the air on good (or questionable) plays. I didn’t know what was going on. But it was one of the best sports nights of my life.

  • @nuleafjhawk so much fun! Imagine AFH! 💙🌾❤

  • @nuleafjhawk I’m so happy you didn’t give up and tried again.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Lol - that’s what I told him - if I can score some tickets sometime!!

  • Our defense needs to stand up make a statement, show progress that teams aren’t just going to be able to run at will against us anymore. Which I think they have made progress , now time to show it, Lance talking how this was probably the most physical camp he has ever Coached. Wanted them more physical. Big Challenge time to show.

You know , I know everyone knows I’ve heard off their podcasts, read off there message boards they want to try and run the ball , run the ball down KU’s throats. Time consuming drives keep Jalen and the offense on the sidelines. saying they don’t want to get in a track meet /shoot out with KU’s offense. Smart strategy. They think they have the advantage against our defense time to show they are wrong show progress

Gonna be interesting hope fans show up strong, I think we gonna be pretty full. - -ROCK CHALK

  • I sure wish JD would have been able to operate a couple of series last week to get his game legs back. Last year KU suffered from slow starts on offense and defense so KU was often/always playing catch-up. In the bowl game, KU was down 31-7 early in the second Q and down 31-13 at the half. I sure hope for a fast start on offense that will at least offset the typical slow start on defense.

  • I don’t know, hope I’m wrong but starting to get this sick feeling that Jalen will be very limited in his snaps tonight. – - -hope I’m wrong , Jaason a dam good back up but with this game just think e need Jalen - -and we need a lot of Jalen to have a chance, just kinda feel like he still has a ways to gol, hopefully I’m wrong

  • @jayballer67 If Jason Bean plays a lot of snaps, I sure hope he’s learned from the Missouri St game not to throw into good coverage; that tendency will eventually be costly, especially against a good defense like Illinois.

Bean has thrown into coverage for years, he’s not learning and decisions like that are why he’s the back up and not starting.

  • @jayballer67 he’s full go as of this morning

Thanks guy , ya I just went through my E-Mails when I got home and Mike Vernon had tweeted out that Jalen was good to go and would b starting tonight - -sounds good to me -Rocj Chalk buddy

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 right dude is a 6th year player, that’s who he is at this point. Still maddening they had him try the two point conversion in the bowl game with Jalen on fire.

  • Kickoff gettin close guys, this isn’t going to be a cake walk. w just have to continue to progress, tonight is big, I said before, tonight we have to step up on the defensive side of the ball be able to stop the run.

Illinois gonna try and run it down our throat , keep our offense off the field- -they want time consuming drives. Yet we have to respect Altmeyer running , he lead them in their rushing against Toledo with 69 yards .

seen this on a betting pod cast - -their QB had some success last week but only has a total of I think it was 92 attempts , and has been intercepted 4 times in very limited time- -got to get some pressure but respect his running at the same time

Let’s go take this. got a feeling Booth will be jumpin the sudents are ready - -Black out - - giving a rally towel to the first ten thousand - hopefully be fun - -be loud - - ROCK CHALK BABY - -LET’S DO THIS

  • My first view of the “black Unis” but they have a lot of brown coloration instead of stark black. The sun was shining on them when I saw them. Maybe they will be more black under the lights.

How’s the crowd , attendencewise- -close to sell out ?

  • Let’s go boys

  • hearing Illinois gonna have a fair amount of fans there - -kinda sucks this is selling out

  • @jayballer67 Sorry, I’m not at the game; I’m just watching the pregame show.

  • I wish they were playing tomorrow because I’d have driven over. Interesting matchup personally as I grew up in Illinois and have always been ready to jump on the Illini bandwagon should they ever put it all together. They did once making the Rose Bowl and then got torched by UCLA. Not many exciting moments, so of course KU has one upped them with the magical season in 2008. Don’t worry, not secretly hoping for an Illini win. It just wouldn’t suck as bad as losing to someone else.

Of course the other coach in this one was a Badger coach and fairly successful too. He coached Russell Wilson there and was two hail mary losses in back to back weeks from being undefeated in that season.

    Exciting matchup for sure.

  • Daniels first pass a bullet for 1st down.

  • Wave the wheat! Welcome back Jaylon, stay healthy please!

  • Nice start to this big game

  • Look SO MUCH better with Daniels out there. Good grief that guy is smooth.

  • Nice to see Jalen come out and not force anything a good steady drive for 6. Neal’s fumble the only hiccup.

  • @wissox I grew up an Illinois fan (Tony Eason, Jeff George era), but I’ve lived in kansas longer than IL at this point.

  • @DanR I was trying to think of his name, I think it might have been Tony Eason that led them to that Rose Bowl.

  • Eason played for the Patriots when the Bears creamed them in superbowl XX
