  • I don’t see any real danger in anyone other than Dick declaring. Although I think Dick should return because he needs to get stronger. He was outmuscled too often at the college level. He’s a great player, but he could get really banged up at the next level if he doesn’t get his body stronger to take that punishment night in and night out.

It’s not a mistake for him to leave, but he could benefit from staying another year.

  • @justanotherfan The biggest thing is hitting his second contract so leaving this year helps him in that regard. I’d love for him to be back but I don’t see it.

  • @BShark Curious as to why you think leaving now better helps his chances of getting the all important 2nd contract? Because I definitely agree that that is the ultimate goal in the NBA. With that comes generational wealth, and possibly even a pension. But the NBA Draft history is LITTERED with examples of kids who came out too early, were exposed, and never reached that elusive goal. Whereas there are scores of examples of kids staying in college, developing their overall game, and sticking around, even as just role players. A more recent example I can think of, is Jalen Brunsen from Villanova. But also think a Nick Collision. Nick never sticks in the league that long if he doesn’t spend all that time in college… Just curious genuinely, as to your tea, I just happen to think the opposite.

  • @P-H-C It literally puts him a year closer to it. He will be getting it either way. So even if KU could match the money now he is deferring BIG money later by another year. A year at KU isn’t going to be better for his development than the NBA. College comes with time restrictions and having to go to class. In the NBA he can eat sleep and breath basketball.

  • @P-H-C

Brunson wasn’t a lottery pick after his freshman year either, he had to stay and develop.

How many potential Top 14 picks have turned down the opportunity and returned to college? It’s a short list off the top of my head.

Very few are actually ready for the next step after their freshman year. The NBA model is different then perhaps our thought process of what ready means.

  • People were telling me Christian wasn’t league ready after last year too.

    lol

  • @BShark He has a cult following on Twitter. He makes a highlight play every game.

  • @BeddieKU23 which Brunson?

  • @approxinfinity

    Old friend Jalen from Nova

  • @BeddieKU23 confused bc jalen brunson doesnt seem comp for Dick? Went 33 after wooden right?

  • @approxinfinity

Yeah, 2nd round, 33rd pick, it’s not a comp for Gradey. Brunson played 3 years in College.

The only comp I can think of is Miles Bridges. 5 star prospect coming in, returned to Michigan St after his freshman year where he was projected to go lotto. Left after his 2nd year and was picked 12th.

  • John Michael-Wright returning to Oklahoma St. He was a major PITA for us this year.

  • Well I know Kevin was pretty set on not returning, chances are still is pretty set against a return ,BUT he sure didn’t help his MBA chances with his performance during his scrimmages. - For the two games Kevin shot 30 % from the field and went 0-3 from the three had a 3 .0 Rpg and 2.5 Steals – those are not NBA type numbers for sure - -after preforming like this and getting feed back -who knows , He has till the end of the month to withdraw. I just can’t see him getting a lot of interest with numbers like that.

Also read Kevin was one of the guys , that didn’t do any measurements OR he didn’t do any of the athletic testing, hmmmm - - -wonder why not ? - you would think not doing the athletic testing would damage his changes even further. Maybe not.

I also know different situation for Jalen but he didn’t really help himself either in scrimmages. - -He shot 26.6 from the field and 20 % - -3 pt % - -those won’t win many over. -measured like 6’5.5 in with socks, I think we had him listed at 6’7 in School – he had like a 31.5 standing vrtical - -& a 35 inch vertical - -ehhh- -no wonder he didn’t dunk that much. - -Did anyone ever see him dunk in a game while at KU ? - just curious

  • I thought I saw some numbers for his athletic testing but maybe I’m wrong. Don’t remember what they were but thought I saw that his vertical was higher than gradey…

you are talking about Kevin right ? - - I dunno bud , I was just going off an article that was written from Swain off TOS. Something about Kevin was one of 14 out of 81 that was like this. I’m just curious why you wouldn’t ? - seems like that would hurt your chances if you didn’t take part in some of these things

  • From 247Sports - Kevin on the combine:

Kansas wing Kevin McCullar: “I’m just taking it one day at a time. It’s been good for me here. Had my pro day. Kinda meeting with teams and gathering feedback. I’m doing what’s best for me.”

  • @DCHawker gathering feedback, hmmmm

  • Kevin McCullar is the hero we need

  • Lots of positives if McCullar comes back (which i don’t see happening), and a few negatives…shooting. We can’t have a lineup with like next to zero proven shooters. HD will take shots of course, but he’ll not take the majority in Self’s system. It would be an offensively challenged starting 5.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk Both Kevin and Jalen have not looked good at the combine. Jalen will stay in no matter what but I don’t see Kevin getting picked and smart money says he’ll make more off of NIL here than a two contract or over seas. Obviously his choice and I’ll respect what he decides because you can’t base every decision off of money.
