Going to get real easy for KU from here on..

Not really. UNC and Duke still have a great brand and Nike behind them. If they falter well we see Alabama, Nova, Michigan etc

And Gonzaga isn’t going away either. Ranked in the top 3 recruiting classes on most sites.

  • @BShark I don’t see Oats being long term at Bama. I would also expect to see a major uptick in top talent making their way to Austin with Beard there now. Villanova and Michigan have consistently gotten top level guys for awhile now so nothing new there. USC seems to rolling pretty good in recruiting as well as the dominant southwestern Nike program.

@BShark Nope. We are Kansas, not Alabama or Villanova or Michigan.

True. Nova wins titles more often.

@nwhawkfan I didn’t say anyone was going away, said that Roy already has and that K soon will be and maybe even Calipari. Now, if you don’t think that that translates into our - the NCAA bullshit will soon be gone - being able to sign some recruits then you are all seriously high.

Those are all Nike schools and we’re still Adidas. It doesn’t change our recruiting very much even once the IARP has handed down their verdict.

  • As of now, Duke and Kentucky recruiting hasn’t slowed though UNC’s seems to have somewhat fallen off. I thought, seeings how K is done after this season coupled with their and Kentucky’s abysmal records and non-dancing last season that both programs would take a recruiting hit. But no!, the ol’ trusty Nike affiliations came through once again.

Not that I care much, we’re good. Coach is recruiting and building an absolute monster come year after next and the one following. And that is in no way discounting this year - 8th in the nation, afterall - or next.

With all of the NCAA crap that we’ve been dealing with for going on four years now it’s amazing what Self has been able to do, really.

  • Recruiting is right where it needs to be. We are getting several high-end multi-year guys every year from here on. We have to improve our unofficial NIL program, but I’m happy with not having to find hidden gems.

Bill is going to get another Natty before he goes if he can keep recruiting like he did the 2022 class.

2020 was a disaster and w/o the NCAA crap I am like 95% sure we have Kendall Brown and Baylor has KJ Adams. Last 2 classes have been good though, back on track.

If we get Mintz I will go off. Not because of Mintz as a player particularly, but getting a Dwayne Wise player would mean we are all the way back.

Have you heard anymore on Mintz ? BShark ?

  • Would not expect to land Mintz at all.

    oh so no chance huh

  • How many more players do you think we’ll sign? A Top 3 four freshman class already, that puts us at the limit unless someone leaves early or transfers.

Heard that Wilson is all but gone while going pro and Cuffe maybe a transfer, that would give us one or two more scholarships. Other than those two, I personally hope that all of the others come back.

  • @Marco

I think 1-3 more players whether its HS or portal. KU is kicking the tires on a PG and big right now from the HS ranks. Doesn’t seem like they are pressing too hard on that front right now so something to monitor if it changes.

As of today I think Cam Martin transfers. Wilson isn’t starting so he’s a potential transfer. I’m not speaking this into existence, its just reality. We need him back for a lot of reasons but Jalen is going to Jalen. Who knows what the freshman will do. Hope they all stay but it would be a miracle today.

We won’t get clarity on Rice until spring/early summer.

  • I don’t think Martin is going to transfer. Don’t think he would be redshirting here if he was going to transfer out , think he would already pull stakes if he saw he wasn’t going to get minutes and waste his red-shirt.

I agree with Jalen , I think Jalen will be gone whether it’s transfer or just tries to go pick up some change over sea’s - - - he is not gonna make any NBA roster with the way he has played this year, taken a step back - -hoping he comes around BUT either way I agree with you I think he is gone

  • @jayballer67

Just a hunch I have regarding Martin. I don’t think he came here to redshirt either. He knew was stuck behind Dave but he couldn’t beat Mitch or Zach for minutes so he gets to practice with D1 kids all year before evaluating his options. Self also went and signed 2 front court studs from HS so I think he’s one to watch.

I feel ya, but with him having a year to practice with the team and with his outside shooting ability you don’t think he could contribute next season? Serious question.

No I don’t. I think athletically he just isn’t cut for this level. And Zach is the stretch big that we need for next year that’s getting PT. That is telling to me.

  • @BeddieKU23 that would give us three more offers, if Wilson leaves early and Cuffe transfers out as some are saying. One guy among many that I don’t want to see transfer? Adams.

  • Adams (and I realize he’s nowhere near there, ever, so don’t crucify me) is Barkley-esque big and can rebound his ass off. He is athletic as all get out, and if he develops his ballhandling and shooting skills look out. I do not want Adams to go anywhere.

What I fear? That he’ll look at who we have coming back and those coming in while thinking, ‘what about me?’ I think the guy could get serious minutes at three positions, starter minutes if even as a backup. Not to say that I think he should be a backup next year.

I’ll just say it, I’d rather have KJ playing for the team next year than Wilson. There, I feel better now.

  • I think it’s safe to say that our recruiting might be on the upswing.
