Worst KU Team Since?

@jayballer67 How can someone watch KU play and think, yeah 15 is about right?
I don’t think a lot of voters actually saw the games. KU has been in the poll so long I guess they are going to give us the benefit of the doubt until the media starts noticing.

I know right ? - - seriously I think we are fringe to 25 right now at this point but we are NOT the # 15 rankedtteam in the Nation. Don’t ask me who is , I don’t watch a lot of the lesser no names or others but I do know WERE NOT
-
Likely resume at this point. 4 quad 1 wins, which is tied for 4th. 6 Q1 + Q2 wins is a lot. We’ve played 9 Q1 games so far, most in the country. Our resume is better than most think, even though I’ll be the first to admit we aren’t playing great right now.

Do we rush the court if we beat K-State?
IF we beat them…

lmao - - -you stop that lol

Who on this team is even in the rotation on good Self teams? Just Ochai and Garrett?
-
Braun probably too. Possibly Bryce.
-
@BShark Wilson and Braun might qualify as upperclassmen.
-
If Perry qualifies Wilson could qualify.
-
The sad part right now is, might need different combo line up yet but what the Hell can Self do not a lot of options
-
Maybe TGF learns how to shoot and qualifies. Athleticism is there.
-
This is a year when a lot of teams get pay back against KU after we have been good for so long. - -Your sure not going to have anyone feeling sorry for us this year and our troubles
-
This is officially Bills worst team. And I’m not even sure it’s all that close.
13 role players. And not a single guy who can get to the rim consistently off the bounce.
-
This team has consistently played worse than any other Self team. Period.
But it doesn’t have to go like this. There is talent and potential… but why isn’t it coming together? February is tomorrow.
I recorded the Tennessee game but after watching a while I just skipped through it to the end to catch the final score. I can’t watch this. This offense is what you would expect in Week 1 of the season with a bunch of newbies.
I and many others in here have pointed out many things that would help… but they just aren’t happening. At this point my expectations are hopeful for a 50/50 win/loss record from here on out. And that is with hope.
I think our record streak for being ranked in the top 25 is in serious jeopardy. I’m thinking we will luck out for one more week… though I don’t see a top 25 team at all now.
-
There is concern for even making the tournament at this point without a turnaround.
If the same level of play continued the rest of the 9 games, only home games with K-St & Iowa St seem like wins. They play both of those teams on the road as well which are 50/50 games given their road woes. Playing Iowa St twice in 3 days will be ridiculous.
Worst case scenario this team goes 2-7 the rest of the way limping to a 13-13 record. 4-5 gets them to 15-11. Going 500 at least gives them a chance to stay on the bubble and they would need to win a Big-12 tourney game likely to have a chance. 3 wins early against ranked teams will be crucial at that point against other bubble teams. Never thought this day was coming under Self
-
I think it is a culmination of many points, sort of a storm hit the program:
COVID-19
No AFH Magic (X-factor)
NCAA Investigation
Lack of overall talent (KU Standard)
-
Michigan St is another team that can’t shoot and has regressed as the season has gone on. 8-6, they lost by 17 yesterday while shooting 32% from the floor
-
I honestly can’t believe how bad of a year it has been given how much we returned from last year.
Seems to me Bill put a lot of eggs in the “Dave can be an 18 and 10 guy” basket and that just didn’t pan out. And there was no plan B. But the reality is this team just cannot shoot the damn ball. Braun has gotten super soft. Wilson’s stroke is gone. Garrett and Harris are Garrett and Harris.
They don’t have a Moss or BG off the bench who can come in and provide a spark with a couple of set plays. They don’t have a PG who can force the action a bit. They don’t have a big man who they can throw the ball into and get buckets in a grind it out game.
This team is like playing chess with only pawns and knights. They have no pieces that allow them to attack any differently. Just the same thing over and over and if it doesn’t work, well it is going to be ugly.
-
And who would have thought the loss of Thompson would wreck as much havoc as it has on things. We are used to injuries from starters making things more difficult but not a player that wasn’t starting. Bryce wasn’t shooting the ball great, his metrics are bad but man do we just miss his presence and the effect it has on rotations. His effort was there and I think we miss a lot of what he was on the cusp of showing.

Outside of Zaga/Baylor yes.

I think our worst move was to put Marcus at point. Especially because we knew we were facing a shortened season. He’s just now starting to come to and assert himself.
Harris is far from being the standard of what we need at point, largely because of his inexperience. We needed all of those prior games for him to get into the flow and develop more confidence.
Now we are a team in limbo… who will be our PG in the next games? Not sure. We are quickly running out of season and Harris is still green. This was a problem that should have been better addressed at the end of last season so we use the entire off-season to build up Harris as the new PG.
I don’t like being like this… armchair quarterbacking this team. I still have full confidence in Self and also these players. I’m just nagging! Speaking of quarterbacking… I can’t stress enough the value of that position (PG) and how it can’t be thrust onto non-PGs. It truly is like grabbing a wide receiver and putting him at quarterback and hoping for positive results. Ain’t gonna happen.

I cannot overstate how much losing Silvio hurt this team on defense. His departure completely changed the make up and dynamic of this KU roster. He could play the 4 and 5 spots for Self and was KU’s best rebounder and interior defender. Offensively, Silvio wouldn’t have provided much because he just wasn’t a good offensive player yet, but his defense and rebounding were game changers for KU this season because he was a rim protector and top end rebounder.
-
I really only think this team is marginally better with Silvio. Unless I’m remembering Silvio wrong, there is a reason he was only getting a few minutes per game…
-
Since the team that lost to the Topeka YMCA. Wait - that was probably an anomaly. This is the worst team EVER. In the history of the universe.

Again, Silvio doesn’t change much offensively because he was never that good on offense. Silvio would’ve been a difference maker for KU on defense this year. He was by far the best rim protector and rebounder this team had going into the season. He was also quick enough to guard and switch on the perimeter.
This team would still be a train wreck on offense because they can’t shoot and Silvio doesn’t change that problem, but that 3 game losing streak doesn’t happen and KU has at most 4 losses instead of 6 and I think this team would only have 3 losses instead of 6 with Silvio this year.

Selfs comments about the defense after the game paint a bleak picture. He’s realizing they are limited

I just can’t see Bill rolling with the current roster projected for 2021-2022. At this point my only question is how many guys end up being shown the door.
I’d set the over under at 3. And I’d probably take the over.

Right. That’s the thing. This is mostly an ability issue. Though Braun and Jalen need to get their head in the game, that would help.
-
I mean if he was really looking to flip the roster 3 at least and you sell your soul for the top guard transfers that hit or get lucky some top level guard is available in the spring. Its all about bringing in guards and getting Thompson Ochai and Wilson developed further. Its such a guard game now and he has to get himself some dudes
