BPI is pure trash.
-
@BShark While that may be the case, this “result” isn’t really a BPI issue - it’s that they picked just one! simulation, which is patently idiotic. Given that it is ESPN, they probably picked the one in which KU lost the essentially one in a 100 coin flip very intentionally…

This model isn’t that insane. The particular simulation the writer used for this had KU losing to Marquette in the second round. Markus Howard is the best scorer in all of college basketball and KU isn’t exactly a high scoring team which is one their flaws. Howard is the kind of guy that can single handily beat a really good team.
Without a near flawless team this season, every team had at least one major flaw, this would be a year where some crazy outcomes were possible. In thread about teams people didn’t want to see KU face, BYU was a fairly common name to show up because of their outside shooting. Is that crazy to think that BYU could get red hot from deep and ride that to a national title game appearance?
The writer didn’t look at the cumulative results to project out, he picked one random simulation because the NCAA Tournament is a one and done tournament and upsets happen.

What a load of garbage. Markus Howard going off against the #1 defense in America? Howard’s big night would be throttled by Garrett. Anything in the paint, smoked by Doke.
Everyone that isn’t a Kansas fan wants to come out and tarnish the idea that Kansas is #1 and would win it all in the tourney.
Might as well say that this was the year Wichita State was going to win it all after thrashing Kansas (if they made the tourney).

You cant spell bpi without pure trash in there
-
@drgnslayr You’re damn right about that.
6-23 against a much worse KU defense last year.
-
In your face!
-
Badgers! National Champs! I actually don’t trust a system that had Duke rated #1 even after the embarrassing losses they had.

You say that, but none of that stopped Tech from going nuclear from 3 in AFH. Also don’t forget that KU was pretty banged up going into the B12 Tournament. Doke and Garrett were each dealing with ankle sprains which are very easy to reaggravate. If either one of them had done that, KU’s road would have been much more difficult.
Let’s not act like KU was bulletproof entering the NCAA Tournament. This team had a lot of similarities to the 2012 team and that team had several close calls in the NCAA Tournament and I would argue the 2010 team was better than this team and they fell in the second round.
This was a good team with a good chance to win the title, but KU’s had better teams than this that didn’t win the title so it’s foolish to think someone like Markus Howard couldn’t light up KU’s defense, especially if Garrett went into that match up at less than 100%.

Marquette sucked this year. But in a one game situation it is true that you never know.
-
We have lost a lot as a number 1 seed before the final 4.
-
-
@Crimsonorblue22 That shirt could go…ahem…viral.
-
@mayjay just don’t wanna be like KSU.
-
We don’t exactly have a great March record (historically)… but I believe our guys would have stepped up and I’m doubtful Howard had much of a chance of winning. It would be a long shot (at best).
Howard didn’t build his numbers against teams with KU’s defense.
I have crimson/blue shades on and I don’t see a loss here. Yes… an upset could happen. That’s why it is called an upset, because it isn’t likely to happen.

@drgnslayr Bill Self has enough of a history of losing in the round of 32 and Elite 8 that I will never fully trust KU to get past those rounds until it happens. That was also why the writer only looked at a single simulation out of the thousands the program he used ran. The way it worked was using the BPI odds, so basically imagine a 100 sided die and rolling it and whichever team popped up, that’s who moved on.
