Next season...

  • @Kubie it would be tough to get, because they’d have to give it to everyone. Even guys like Bane on a TCU team that’s season was over regardless. Its unfortunate but I don’t see it getting rescheduled unless this blows over by the end of April. Which probably doesn’t happen.

  • Anger and depression stage here… maybe in 20 years with lots of bi-weekly intensive therapy and Zoloft I can progress to Barganing. Unless Kansas wins it all say in the next Few years … that would get me quickly to grudging Acceptance.

At least, when someone brings up the oft-discussed and inevitable topic of Self being ultimately judged by how many NCAA championships he has won (never mind that his record string of conference victories will live on and on as a never-topped DiMaggio- esque hitting streak record), we can always look back to this year and say… what if??? He, we KU were denied by history of possibly winning it all.

  • @Bosthawk it sucks, I’m drunk good night.

  • Not that there should be any doubt but Dotson on social media posted about how he will miss being with Jalen Wilson (they became pretty good friends) next season. Jalen will still be at Kansas, Dotson will be somewhere else likely the g league.

  • This sucks. I’ll be saying it for years to come

  • @kjayhawks said in Next season...:

One issue that we haven’t discussed in this is, a postseason ban next season. I would’ve been mad no matter what but if we’d made the final four or won the title this season the sting would be much much less. It’s amazing what pops up when we have a team with a shot. Everything from injuries to NCAA eligibility issue and now a virus.

That will be answered by the question: Will our country remain in disarray?

We have a year to figure out how to adjust to contagious viruses. Will the bug win? At this point it is easy to be skeptical. Is it just a matter of finding a vaccine? What about future bugs?

This is the first time we have addressed testing and tracking bugs. By not having available tests, it is clear we have to say our system has failed (up to this point).

And since the powers of decisions are in the hands of politicians (instead of medical professionals) it is hard to think our reactions will shift away from fear and misinformation to proper logic from those who study bugs.

  • @BeddieKU23 me too😥😡🤮

  • @drgnslayr We never did get a vaccine for Zeka five years later. Odds are this will pass but no safe and effective vaccine will be made. Repeat the cycle with the next virus…

    Woulda went on a rampage.

Jalen posted “gotta pay for my son dotson’s last meal in Lawrence”. So uh, yeah.

I don’t think the NCAA is going to be worried about KU right now and the other programs they are investigating at this time. They’re going to be more worried about the logistics of extending the eligibility of the spring sports athletes.

I’m guessing we won’t hear anything about sanctions until next summer at this point.

  • Doke I’m really going to miss. Dotson I will forget in 2 years since he had no defining moment. No tournament means no legacy at KU for Dotson.

  • KU’s roster for next year will probably look like this (scholarship players only):

    Departing:

    Isaiah Moss

    Udoka Azubuike

    Devon Dotson

    Returning:

    Ochai Agbaji (Jr.)

    Christian Braun (So.)

    Silvio DeSousa (Sr.)

    Tristan Enaruna (So.)

    Marcus Garrett (Sr.)

    Dajuan Harris (RS Fr.)

    Mitch Lightfoot (RS Sr.)

    David McCormack (Jr.)

    Jalen Wilson (RS Fr.)

    Incoming:

    Bryce Thompson

    Tyon Grant-Foster

    Gethro Muscadin

    Latrell Jossell

Positional breakdown (I’m only going to put what I think a player’s primary position will be in 2020-21 as most of these players can and will play multiple positions):

PG: Marcus Garrett (Can play 1-4), Dajuan Harris, Latrell Jossell

SG: Bryce Thompson (Can play 1-2), Christian Braun (Can play 1-3)

SF: Ochai Agbaji (Can play 2-4), Tristan Enaruna (Can play 3-4), Tyon Grant-Foster (Can play 3-4)

PF: Mitch Lightfoot (Can play 4-5), Jalen Wilson

C: David McCormack, Silvio DeSousa, Gethro Muscadin

Looking at the roster, I think there are two players who are strong redshirt candidates for next season. Latrell Jossell and Gethro Muscadin both appear to be strong redshirt candidates because neither come to KU projected to leave early and each has a logjam of better players in front of them next season.

  • @BShark

Yes. Vaccines tend to show up after bugs have already peaked.

Studies have to be completed first. And then, by coming out after nature has already sent the bug over the bell curve, people question their effectiveness since the bug is already being reduced.

Those involved in developing vaccines claim there is new technology in place that will reduce the time in development. Guess we shall see. Obviously, there is a huge desire to see it developed quickly!

I know I have shared my skepticism on vaccines… but I truly hope a vaccine comes quickly, while the virus is thriving, and it would be a great opportunity to prove it’s effectiveness! Let’s hope science comes through for much needed help!

Idle minds are dangerous. I think he’s going to be a really nice piece at the 4 if his shot becomes more consistent and if Ramsey works his magic.

If the 19 class all sticks around for JR and SR years that is a super nice core.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t at this point. Enaruna has the highest NBA ceiling, but like Svi, he’s still very raw and needs a lot of refinement first. He’s the strongest candidate to leave early to me, but it’s all dependent on when the light comes on and he puts it all together.

I’ve never thought Jalen Wilson was an NBA prospect because he’s always reminded me of a poor man’s Perry Ellis. I think he’ll be a fine college player, but I just don’t see NBA in his future.

DaJuan Harris is probably the hardest to get a read on because we haven’t seen him on a college court yet. Based on his ranking and size, I wouldn’t anticipate him leaving early and I would bet that he ends up a 4 year guy.

Those are definitely 3 nice pieces to have for the long haul as you have the 1, 3, and 4 spots taken care of for the future as all 3 should be rotation guys at minimum. With Gethro Muscadin as well, that’s the future 5.

I like the pieces KU has for development in the future and even 2 years of Bryce Thompson which I think is realistic at this point and KU is a dangerous team for awhile as Self appears poised to go on a run of dominance like KU had in the early 2010’s.

  • Just bend over and take it from the NCAA unless KU realistically thinks they can win. Next year is going to be a down year - sorry Mitch. No need to miss out on another good year two or three seasons from now when everyone is seasoned.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Braun as well. I think transferring would be the biggest potential risk.

@dylans disagree, there is no reason next year can’t be good. I don’t even think Mitch should be a big factor. Flexible roster with plenty of good players and athletes.

How could I forget Braun!?!? I don’t see him leaving early either.

I don’t think any of the 2019 guys transfer out, the one I could see eventually transfer is 2020 recruit Latrell Jossell if he plays to his ranking.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 we are pretty much on the same wavelength here. It’s just you never know and it can be tough on kids when they aren’t getting the minutes they hoped for. Bill wanted Tristan to be good, gave him minutes early he just didn’t progress fast enough to be relied on late. I still like him a lot going forward.

  • @BShark so do you think 20-21 will be better than 21-22? Sr. Silvio vs Sr. McCormack So. Braun vs Jr. Braun Fr. Thompson vs So. Thompson Jr. Ochai vs Sr. Ochai. I don’t. I’d also hate for McCormack and Ochai to give up their senior year vs Silvio sacrificing his. (Like I said bummer about Mitch having two senior years wiped out under this scenario) But the way things are going KU will be eligible next season and have the postseason ban in two years. Total bummer.

Forgot about Garrett. Poor guy. Would’ve been a huge difference maker this season. I guess we will see who gets jobbed out of their last year at KU. The NCAA will continue their witch-hunt it’s just a matter of time.

  • I made a NCAA 2k8 (best college hoops game of all time, no debate there, and the good folks at operation sports update most rosters each season) roster with all of the recruits sans Jossell and Doke, Dot. Oh. My. Lord.

  • @dylans it will suck regardless of when it happens but if it will be just one year we probably would be better off taking it next year.

  • @BShark I agree it sucks. I hope KU can win, but I think the NCAA really wants a scapegoat so they can say they cleaned up the sport. Meanwhile it’s business as usual for Nike schools. Wish this could be resolved as quickly as the b-ball season went away!

  • “He’s good. He’s fast. He’s got the best hands of anybody on our team including Marcus (Garrett),” Self said recently of Harris. “He’s not a shooter but he’s a true point guard. He has vision. All our guys will love playing with Dajuan. He will not be a guy to get you 15 (points) a game,” Self added. “But he’s an excellent free throw shooter, excellent floater and layup shooter and I’m hoping will make wide open shots. I think he will be an impact player for us,” Self added.

    Aaron Miles?

  • Maybe we are underestimating him?

Not me I expect him to be very good here

  • His highlight reels show a very creative player. The kid seems woke. Him, Braun and Garrett is a fantastically smart core of handlers.

  • If you all are aching for hoops (and really, who isn’t?) go back and watch the 2019 Peach Jam final. Kid was amazing.

  • He can’t shoot but he is a good player.

    Pre-requisite for playing here

  • I think we could be better offensively next season but the chemistry and defense of this team may not be seen again for several years. I think each passing day I get angrier and angrier, this is as bad as a death in the family.

  • @kjayhawks said in Next season...:

Agree with you on the defense. - -have to dis agree about a death in family buddy. - People have no idea what it’s like to have to put your little boy in a grave - can’t agree with you there not even close.

  • @jayballer73 in fairness he just said a death – any death – think a distant cousin.

  • I was thinking more along the lines of the dog died, for a comp. It’s nothing like losing people.

  • @jayballer73 I was thinking not so immediate family. Probably a bad comparison either way this sucks as bad as anything not death related.

  • How will we fill the stands next year after everyone dies of Coronavirus?

…at least that’s how folks are acting. It was normal here yesterday. Then the a group of a-holes from Texas figured out we aren’t all psycho here. So they came up and cleaned out all our stores of cleaning supplies and toilet paper. It doesn’t even give you the squirts. 🤦♂️ The sheeple are ready for the slaughter all they need is a shepherd to take them there.

  • @dylans I highly doubt there is a mass that big of the people that we lose and obviously hope that’s not the case. There is just so much stuff out there and most of it is opinionated. I still wondering why we cancelled so much stuff besides people working and groves of folks at Walmart.

  • @kjayhawks said in Next season...:

Not even close to a death in the family.

  • @kjayhawks Its crazy. I still haven’t heard one logical reason basketball could not be played without fans. One group of people that are already fully exposed to one another playing another group of people that are fully exposed. Groups of people that are already being quarantined with their group for the entire tournament and that quarantine could continue afterward.

Meanwhile airplanes with hundreds of people are breathing the same recirculated air and then end up in many different destinations. The subway with 1 million plus passengers a day rages on. Walmart has canceled order delivery so you have to go in the store and has stopped 24 hour service to get everyone in there at the same time. Makes sense to me.

It was cool to see Dana White provide a little live entertainment. The feeling of normalcy was nice.

  • @approxinfinity said in Next season...:

@jayballer73 in fairness he just said a death – any death – think a distant cousin.

just not a good comparison - -were talking about basketball compared to Family, but it’s all good - -no harm no foul

  • @dylans that is exactly my point in this whole ordeal. We are gonna keep the athletes most of which are pro safe and celebrities but the average people are supposed to go on as normal with working, etc. I personally would’ve put it in the players hands. Scan all the teams and coaches selected before they are cleared to play and then play in an empty arena. When look at the stuff that NCAA tournament has been played around, stuff like multiple years of polio outbreaks that killed 10 of thousands of children to teams having several players away fighting in wars. It’s a little odd at this point but I’m glad I don’t have to make the decision but probably wouldn’t have cancelled it.

  • Heck of a lot easier to cancel basketball games than an entire industry. We saw an official get it, and possibly spread it to players. What if those players become infected, spread to other players, and go home to be with their families and infect them? It wasn’t safe to hold the tournament, as much as it sucks for players and fans. Just not worth the risk.

  • @FarmerJayhawk the trouble is that they are saying that 40% of the population is infected and probably doesn’t even know it. Some people are wondering if they did have in January. We had a sickness at work that sounds like Coronavirus and we were all tested for flu, strep and pneumonia but all were negative. But we all were tired and coughing for 3 weeks. It’s just crazy right now with how little actual info there is.

  • @kjayhawks said in Next season...:

Yeah this is a pretty weird virus. You guys might have had it…might not… we need more info in general about it.

  • Turns out the tests haven’t been 100% reliable either. There’s on-going work to improve that, but it contributes to the confusion and controversy over numbers and rates…
