Still coming to terms with the fact that we’ve seen our last game with Doke, Moss, and probably Dotson.
Just trying to work through the process… I’m currently somewhere between anger and depression, but trying to make my way to acceptance.
Now we get to look forward and move forward together.
-
Yeah, it totally sucks. Let’s keep this thread about next year’s team, shall we? We need to concentrate on positive things.
-
NCAA does the right thing (lol). Everyone comes back. We roll 12 deep. Bring all comers.
-
I’m definitely still in denial.

There is a real part of me that is still holding onto hope that Dotson comes back. He as much as any player this year had that chip that @drgnslayr loves to write about. He wanted to prove he was capable of leading a team to the championship. It didn’t sit well with him that his team lost KU “the streak” and his goal was to get a championship to repair his legacy. If you go back and watch games, as much as Doke was starting to dominate, Dotson was really coming into his own as a leader. Whenever KU needed a bucket, he went and got it. Every run by opposing teams in the last month was halted by a Devon Dotson drive or 3 pointer. I really hope he comes back but if he doesn’t I will miss him.
-
I quickly came around to acceptance as I changed a big medical appointment for my 87 yr old dad who is at total risk of the virus. Trying to keep him out of public places, especially medical centers.
Hopefully we will get through all of this in a month or two and the risk will drop though I can see it return big in the fall.
-
@jayballer73 I’ve always felt Great Auntie Elizabeth had that pretty close.
-
I can’t get excited about next season and I can’t imagine I will, if at all. The way this season has ended is just a complete gutting
-
Doke was robbed, I wasn’t done watching him fulfill his dream. There will never be another guy like him, talking more than on the court.
-
I’m a nut. I get excited still thinking back to 08 and 88 with Manning… and everything around it… like TRob, Withey, Frank the Tank…
It’s been such a blessing to be a Jayhawk fan, historically and going forward!
-
Without a proper end to this season I don’t see it.
-
I just look for a brighter way to view this so I can sleep soundly.
We were favored in this tournament but there was still and excellent chance we lost it. At least we don’t have to have that scenario.
We can always imagine this as our National Championship and no one else has that above us because everyone knows we were favored to win it.
-
Go appreciate this by hugging and kissing one of your elderly loved ones.
NO WAIT! Try standing at least 6 feet away and throw them kisses from that distance!
Cheer up, my friend. We will always remain a conquering force in basketball!
-
I get what your saying here. Regardless I wanted to know what the end result was one way or the other. That’s the beauty and the pain of this tournament. Having it ending like it is just makes it worse
-
The NCAA to decide on granting an additional year of eligibility to players…
Moss, Doke please come back again if they do

@BeddieKU23 dokes luck, he’d get hurt! Srs coming back is a dumb idea, to me. Now dot! Still think see if this blows over and find a way! If hutch can pull off their nationals. Hope!

I think Dot will at least think about it now. The way the season ended and the reason he came back was for unfinished business (besides improving his game & stock) and now this has to be killing him leaving KU without the chance at a ring.
-
@BeddieKU23 but the trouble…
-
Everyone comes back, add Tyon, Mitch, and Bryce. We steamroll everyone.
-
Just coming across is that the NCAA is going to grant an extra season of eligibility to all spring sports athletes. They are looking into the same for winter sports athletes as well.
A good first step for the NCAA and surprising to see how quickly this came about. The NCAA still needs to work out the logistics for the spring sports, but since none of those are revenue generating sports, I’m guessing they’ll do an exemption on the number of scholarships and roster sizes for the next 3 years in accordance with limits already in place for each sport.

After no World Series due to the strike, baseball has never been the same to me. I hope once basketball starts back up my love for the sport does as well since the players didn’t walk out on us. But it’s a bitter pill to swallow and it may change our love for the sport forever. Just the way it is.
I figure it will as pissed as I am right now.
-
Next year’s team will be ready to play. Let us assume that Moss comes back (NCAA allowing it), but Dot and Doke leave. What will next year’s team look like? Starting 5 and bench. How good could it be?
-
Hearing Silvio will stay from someone reliable, what say you @FarmerJayhawk

There’s so many question marks about the roster for next season now because of how the season ended.
I don’t see any possibility of Doke coming back at this point. He’s worked hard and his draft stock is as high as it will get. He needs to leave regardless of whatever decision the NCAA makes regarding eligibility.
Ochai Agbaji should probably throw his name out there to see if he gets a combine invite (if it happens) and go from there, but I would expect him to ultimately return to KU. I would put it at 90/10 staying/going for Ochai right now.
Devon Dotson, this is a tough one because he will absolutely declare and get a combine invite if there is one. With Dot’s decision, I think it will all come down to the feedback he gets from the NBA on whether he goes pro or comes back. I would probably put it at 25/75 staying/going for Dot right now. If he performs poorly at the combine and gets a 2nd round grade, I think we’ll see him back
Isaiah Moss is by far the one who will be most impacted by the decision the NCAA reaches about granting an extra year of eligibility to. He’s not someone I see with much of a pro future and with an extra year of eligibility, he would probably complete his master’s degree. Where does Moss fit into the team next year if he’s back? Is he still a starter like he was down the stretch this year or is he a guy that comes off the bench?
Also if Moss is granted an extra year of eligibility, how does that affect KU’s scholarship situation with potential sanctions coming as well. Also how do those potential sanctions affect Moss, Dotson and Agbaji’s decisions as well? Will the NCAA even get to those sanctions this summer now?
There’s so many questions about the roster next season that it’s hard to make any predictions with any kind of accuracy.

Leaving was never really a consideration. Kid wants to be a great Jayhawk something fierce
-
One issue that we haven’t discussed in this is, a postseason ban next season. I would’ve been mad no matter what but if we’d made the final four or won the title this season the sting would be much much less. It’s amazing what pops up when we have a team with a shot. Everything from injuries to NCAA eligibility issue and now a virus.

that works just fine for me, hope he can work out this summer and be able to contribute next year - need that big man help
-
Adding Lightfoot into the mix should make for an even more dynamic team. Hopefully McCormick learns how to emulate Doke a bit.
-
I can’t believe Doke would take the chance as his draft stock is pretty good. On the other hand it could help Moss. I seriously doubt basketball players get that extra year however.
-
@Kubie it would be tough to get, because they’d have to give it to everyone. Even guys like Bane on a TCU team that’s season was over regardless. Its unfortunate but I don’t see it getting rescheduled unless this blows over by the end of April. Which probably doesn’t happen.
-
Anger and depression stage here… maybe in 20 years with lots of bi-weekly intensive therapy and Zoloft I can progress to Barganing. Unless Kansas wins it all say in the next Few years … that would get me quickly to grudging Acceptance.
At least, when someone brings up the oft-discussed and inevitable topic of Self being ultimately judged by how many NCAA championships he has won (never mind that his record string of conference victories will live on and on as a never-topped DiMaggio- esque hitting streak record), we can always look back to this year and say… what if??? He, we KU were denied by history of possibly winning it all.
-
@Bosthawk it sucks, I’m drunk good night.
-
Not that there should be any doubt but Dotson on social media posted about how he will miss being with Jalen Wilson (they became pretty good friends) next season. Jalen will still be at Kansas, Dotson will be somewhere else likely the g league.
-
This sucks. I’ll be saying it for years to come

That will be answered by the question: Will our country remain in disarray?
We have a year to figure out how to adjust to contagious viruses. Will the bug win? At this point it is easy to be skeptical. Is it just a matter of finding a vaccine? What about future bugs?
This is the first time we have addressed testing and tracking bugs. By not having available tests, it is clear we have to say our system has failed (up to this point).
And since the powers of decisions are in the hands of politicians (instead of medical professionals) it is hard to think our reactions will shift away from fear and misinformation to proper logic from those who study bugs.
-
@BeddieKU23 me too
-
@drgnslayr We never did get a vaccine for Zeka five years later. Odds are this will pass but no safe and effective vaccine will be made. Repeat the cycle with the next virus…

I don’t think the NCAA is going to be worried about KU right now and the other programs they are investigating at this time. They’re going to be more worried about the logistics of extending the eligibility of the spring sports athletes.
I’m guessing we won’t hear anything about sanctions until next summer at this point.
-
Doke I’m really going to miss. Dotson I will forget in 2 years since he had no defining moment. No tournament means no legacy at KU for Dotson.
-
KU’s roster for next year will probably look like this (scholarship players only):
Departing:
Isaiah Moss
Udoka Azubuike
Devon Dotson
Returning:
Ochai Agbaji (Jr.)
Christian Braun (So.)
Silvio DeSousa (Sr.)
Tristan Enaruna (So.)
Marcus Garrett (Sr.)
Dajuan Harris (RS Fr.)
Mitch Lightfoot (RS Sr.)
David McCormack (Jr.)
Jalen Wilson (RS Fr.)
Incoming:
Bryce Thompson
Tyon Grant-Foster
Gethro Muscadin
Latrell Jossell
Positional breakdown (I’m only going to put what I think a player’s primary position will be in 2020-21 as most of these players can and will play multiple positions):
PG: Marcus Garrett (Can play 1-4), Dajuan Harris, Latrell Jossell
SG: Bryce Thompson (Can play 1-2), Christian Braun (Can play 1-3)
SF: Ochai Agbaji (Can play 2-4), Tristan Enaruna (Can play 3-4), Tyon Grant-Foster (Can play 3-4)
PF: Mitch Lightfoot (Can play 4-5), Jalen Wilson
C: David McCormack, Silvio DeSousa, Gethro Muscadin
Looking at the roster, I think there are two players who are strong redshirt candidates for next season. Latrell Jossell and Gethro Muscadin both appear to be strong redshirt candidates because neither come to KU projected to leave early and each has a logjam of better players in front of them next season.
-
Yes. Vaccines tend to show up after bugs have already peaked.
Studies have to be completed first. And then, by coming out after nature has already sent the bug over the bell curve, people question their effectiveness since the bug is already being reduced.
Those involved in developing vaccines claim there is new technology in place that will reduce the time in development. Guess we shall see. Obviously, there is a huge desire to see it developed quickly!
I know I have shared my skepticism on vaccines… but I truly hope a vaccine comes quickly, while the virus is thriving, and it would be a great opportunity to prove it’s effectiveness! Let’s hope science comes through for much needed help!
