  • @jayballer73 The wonderful healing of painful memories over time!

Last year we were number 1 for several weeks in the fall, but by mid-March we were at #17 in the AP poll, and a couple weeks earlier we actually fell to #18 in the UPI/Coaches poll.

Ahh ok , thanks for helping out. – I’m telling you my memory is getting really bad lol. That’s what happens when you get old. Kinda of remember that now that you reminded me, I was actually kind of worrying about if we lost again falling completely out of the top 25 and ending that streak. - -Good looking out my friend. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

UNC drops out of the Top 25 for the first time in 106 weeks.

Kansas has the longest active streak at 207 weeks. The 2nd longest active streak is Duke at 70 weeks.

Pretty easy to see why North Carolina has dropped out of the top 25.

    The numbers don’t lie - -pretty ugly: - - Only scoring 68.4 per game - - - 39.8 fg % - - - 63.2 ft % - -& - - 28.7 % - -three point shooting. - - Not going to win to many games with those kind of numbers - - lost 4 out of there last 5

  • Anyone else find it funny that VCU is ranked higher than Texas? 😂

  • Who here thinks that Utah has a shot at beating Kentucky tonight?

  • @rockchalkwyo I think Kentucky will drill them. Utah is ranked 107th in KenPom. Kentucky oddly enough has kind of flown under the radar this year after losing to Evansville. They play Ohio St. on Saturday which should be a good game.

  • @Woodrow man I didn’t know they were that low. Thanks Woodrow

  • Utah is SUPER young. Almost all freshman and sophomores playing. But they have beaten Minnesota and BYU so far this year.

I’d imagine it ends up a tight game, UK struggles to score, but pulls it out at the end.

  • Ohio St will paste Kentucky.

  • @Kcmatt7

BYU with Childs back beat a good Utah St squad. That could be a team that makes the tourney down the line

  • @BeddieKU23 I think so too if Duane Washington plays. If not could be a good game. He was out against Minnesota and we know what happened there.

  • The “Pearl”???

  • @Woodrow

Good point about Washington. He’s their best perimeter shooter (53%) and without them they have to lean a little bit more on the freshman- who’s really good but I think it throws the balance of their nucleus off. That would even the game out a bit if he doesn’t play. The Minnesota game seems like one of those days- like KU had against Duke. They shot 38% and Marcus Carr had 35, 20 above his average

    I DO

  • North Carolina getting drilled AGAIN. - -down 22 to Gonzaga at the 8 minute mark of the 2nd half.

Do have to give them a little credit though they tried hard , just ran out of gas - -but horrible defense and can’t shot worth a dam - this will make 5-6 losing. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Tried hard award?

  • The WCC leaders delivered a butt-kicking tonight
Zags over Carolina by 13, and St. Mary’s clobbers a pretty good Arizona State team by 40.
Even San Francisco kept up with Stanford last night until the last couple of minutes.

  • Man Utah was in control of this entire 1st half. had everything rolling their way , and then just folded in the last 2 1/2 minutes of the half. - -They had just went up by 12 and then turn right around and let Kentucky end the 1st half on a 8-0 run - -Utah up 35-31 at the half now.

It was awesome watching the Kentucky fans just seating their in their seats arms folded and silent. This is a Utah Team that got beat by Coastal caroling by 22 points and have led Kentucky the entire 1st half.

The way they let Kentucky back in at the end of the 1st half I think will be a total different story 2nd half - -dam shame - -they had these guys right where Kentucky needs to be - sucking butt and blew it - -new ball game now. -DAM - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Well Utah came out on fire again starting 2nd half. - -Now up on Kentucky by 14 with like 14:30 to go - -this would be a sweet way to end my day - Utah lost to coastal Carolina by 22 - - lost to Tulane geez

  • Utah playing to lose - - -not to win , playing scared. - then again the officials decided to step in. - - Utah stopped being aggressive - -now only up by 3 with 3:42 left to go

  • Utah gonna mess around and lose

  • HUGE 3

  • My goodness. Utah choking bad

  • That was a charge.

  • Wait they missed the restricted area call? He was like 2 feet out. Glad it got fixed.

  • Mercy Utah tried everything in it’s power to lose that game. - - -I couldn’t believe they called a block before they got it right. - - wasn’t even close to being in the restricted area. - - Ahhh that’s so sad Kentucky loses to Evansville at home - -not loses to a team that got beat by COASTAL CAROLINA by 22 and Tulane - - ahh good night to sleep on. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I’m glad I don’t have to hear Bill Walton any more.

  • @jayballer73 - great prognostication!

aT LEAST 2 FEET AND THEY WERE GOING TO CALL THAT A BLOCK

Let me quote a famous Walton Quote - -( PLEASE ) - – LMAO. - - have a great night my friend. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Man UNC has hit tough times. 4 of their starters combined for 12 points. Yikes. I’m sure the UNC boards right now are salty

Kentucky losing is a glorious thing.

Baylor won at home by 28

Cincinnati pulled away from Tennessee. KU plays them in January

East Tennessee St went on the road and beat LSU pretty handily. ETSU should make the tourney

UNC Greensboro beat Vermont by 1 on the road. Vermont almost beat Virginia earlier in the year.

  • Gives me a bad feeling for Saturday. - -Teams being ranked # 1 in the Nation haven’t fared well this year.

N Carolina is just sad right now - - - Duke getting beat on their home floor by SFA - - -Kentucky - well nuff said.

With this being KU’S 1st road game of the year , playing a pretty good team that have given us fits at different times , and I’m telling you from things I’m seeing Villanova is looking forward to this game. We’ve always seem to not play our best right before Christmas. -Lot of things going against us for this game, Just don’t get a good feel , it’s a crazy year this year in College Basketball.

Bottom line is Nobody is really separating themselves from everyone else. There really is NOT that a true dominant team this year. I think if we could come out of there with a win , I think you could very easily make a case for Us to be that team. Let’s hope we come out focused and ready to go against these guys. -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Good call @jayballer73 !!

I can not remember a year where so many top 10 teams have lost to unranked teams as double digit favorites. This year is crazy and the tournament is going to be bonkers.

  • I have a good feeling!

  • I have a good feeling too @Crimsonorblue22

Who’s guarding Doke? Who’s guarding Dave? JRE is their biggest player. LOL.

Kenpom has Nova #86 defense. Their fans say their defense is no good. This isn’t Wright’s typical team that can defend.

They have length at the wings and their best player Saddiq Bey is the kind of guy that can give KU fits. Swider off the bench shoots the 3 well too. Gillespie will chuck a bunch but his %'s are down.

The road game obviously changes things. Nova gets a few points playing in a home environment. It’s not their home gym though, they are playing in the Sixers gym. If Nova shoots lights out from 3 well we’ve seen what can happen. Not sure this group can do that though.

This is a young Nova team. I think they will keep it close early but as long as KU doesn’t turn the ball over 20+ times and lose the rebounding margin I’m calling a W. KU is going to wear this team down in the post and their defense is much better then Nova’s. This is a KU team that can just wear you out which we haven’t had in a while. I have some confidence we go in there and just take care of business

  • Can I do it again this year @BShark ?

    UK sucks.

  • Hard to blame the dude. He’s a surefire Top 10 pick.

  • @BeddieKU23 Listened to the Villanova podcast. - they were talking about how to attack Ku on the offensive end. - - Talking/asking about do they attack it the way they have the last couple of times ? - taking Doke completely out of the game not being able to defend the perimeter - - Talking about the best chance is to attack and the Pace.

Said they don’t think they wanted to get into a up and down with Devon and KU - they feel they want to pressure on Defense force our bigs to get up and down the floor - on our offensive end they think they want us or force us to execute. - they rather have us in the half court instead of up and down - - pick their spots.

They talked about Devon being a fantastic guard and hard to stay in front of him - these are the type of Guards they have had trouble with this year -They think they can neutralize our bigs with their 5 out. - -only one problem with that - -we don’t run with a 3-2 very long it seems - more of a 4-1 -I thin k Moss could play a big role in this game - -us playing more of Garrett- – Dotson - - Obaji - - Moss - & Doke -Or Dave - -little different from teams past

Bottom line is they think JRE HAS to have a big game - -make Doke come out and defend him - -has to hit shots. - - I think it is going to be a tight game – They think Gillispie gonna have a huge game - Think Garett plays a huge part in this too shutting down probably the Dude that comes off the Bench and also spenda a lot of time on Gillispie

  • @jayballer73

Interesting thoughts from them. I just don’t see it. KU is going to have to play at the level they played in the Duke game to lose. It’s possible but they are overreaching on some things they think they can do.

I see Garrett guarding Bey most of the game. He’s their best scorer and that would be huge to limit him quality looks. If Marcus gets in foul trouble which has plagued him that could change some things.

They have no choice but to double the post. Nobody on their roster can handle Doke or Dave for that matter. I think if Agbaji and Moss can stretch them out with a few made 3’s there is a good chance we control this game in the 2nd half. Nova is a year away IMO

  • This team gives KU fits. I’m glad for this series and hope it continues. It’s great to get this experience before March to try and figure stuff out.

  • @dylans could the two big lineup adequately defending Villanova be inverse “fools gold”?

  • @approxinfinity Just say no to 2 bigs against a 5 out team.

  • @dylans hope so!

  • @approxinfinity @dylans Well, unless we play zone. But we know that is naughty word around AFH.

  • @HighEliteMajor which two bigs in a zone though? Do you think Dave can do it?

  • @HighEliteMajor 3-2 zone would be nice, but zone is a naughty word simply because it’s a system that can be schemed against easier than good man to man.

  • approxinfinity said:

Yes and it would be intimidating. I just wonder about the guards being able to apply the proper pressure. Dotson is relied upon too heavily on offense to exhaust him on D. Garrett would be good. Ochai would be ok. Moss 🤷♂️ Enaruna could be good in a zone with his length.

Zone defense gets unfairly defamed. What makes it worse is when we see man coaches try to coach zone. They see it as a gimmick.

But we need to consider our team. This team, what we are dealing with. Can’t ignore our personnel. Can’t ignore the need to guard the line while playing two bigs. Can’t ignore that our bigs get exposed out on the floor. I can promise this – a properly executed 3-2 with our personnel would be better bet than our man, and would be more effective than how we guard the three point line presently. To be used in specific situations, against specific teams.

For example, how do we guard an Auburn type team with our two bigs on floor?

The Dayton situation scares me. That’s a March nightmare.

If we are best with two bigs, then we need to play a defense that fits.

That’s if we are actually better with two bigs. Not sure that we are now.
