This commentator's view of last night's ending makes everything even stranger.

  • @mayjay I’m not sure we r on same page here. If one of our kids did that, self wouldn’t have been happy! True, he wants Tristan to protect ball! I think it was a safe out to save face for a very apologetic coach that we had thoroughly embarrassed and the kid had also embarrassed their program. Just my thoughts. I’m ok if u and others think differently. I’d die if my players or my boys would do that, but they’d never do it!

I’m with you - un-acceptable - -if people remember how people was all over Brennan for his act. – No different period

  • @Crimsonorblue22 No difference of op on this! I was just thinking that Bill would have been more upset about our letting it happen. No controversy if Tristan pays attention and does his job. It is different to show up another team (Self rightfully mad at Greene) than to have a pathetic attempt made at showing you up when you have won by 53 pts.

Other coach: rightfully embarrassed. Self: Shakes his head.

  • I bet Tristan doesn’t let that happen again, not that it usually happens. Well, KSU might try it now! Pretty sure Bruce wouldn’t like it, although wasn’t it Barry brown that dinked(lol gonna leave that) after the buzzer on us?

  • @Hawk8086 I can see that viewpoint. But it just made me laugh when I realized what happened from this post! Still does.

  • @jayballer73 There’s a huge difference between doing it when you’re winning and when you’re losing. No I didn’t appreciate Greene doing it then at all and still don’t. Friday made me smile, because as @drgnslayr said “you get a chance to dunk at AFH and talk smack, you do it”.

  • You actually do see losing players give pressure during the dribble it out phase. And you see offensive players try to prevent what happened the other night.

  • I hate unwritten rules of sports. Baseball is full of them of course. Don’t bunt to break up a nohitter, don’t steal when leading by x number of runs late, don’t walk across the mound. When it’s live action, do what the rules allow and don’t look like sissies complaining about it when said player makes a play within the rules!

A second part of this is I hate the butthurt culture of sports. Southerns football coach got all upset because the other team ran onto the field and crossed the logo in the middle of the turf. So a grown man starts whining because some college kids ran on some paint? NFL had to ban taunting because players who weigh 300 pounds and can run fast and is making 50 million bucks are getting butt hurt because some guy running into the end zone celebrates?

  • I’m done!

  • That kid is a first rate duesh. Bottom line. Not ok to do that at any level.

  • @wissox think of unwritten rules as manners. No it’s not against the rules to eat with your filthy pie hole open, but it’s disgusting and will cause people to dislike you/the action. Same difference. It’s just a matter of respecting the culture of the sport. Unfortunately respect of others cultures/differences still isn’t without effort that some are unwilling to put forth. But watch, the culture of baseball is changing. More Latino players are in the game now and as a general rule that like to allow their passion to show, so you see more flamboyant behavior being accepted.

I suppose if every dickhead basketball player played hard until the final whistle regardless of score this wouldn’t seem like such an outlier. But dribbling out the clock is a mercy to keep the score from getting uglier; swallow your pride and accept your fate, a fate created by yourself earlier in this game that is now out of hand.

  • @wissox

I hear you on the “etiquette” in sports… which translates to “political correctness” in the rest of our lives.

What I find a real “head scratcher” is the PC crowd throws fits about things that aren’t politically correct, when it isn’t politically correct to throw fits about political correctness.

The politically correct way to acknowledge when someone isn’t following political correctness is to “raise your eyebrows up and down, either one or two times.”

It seems like the only time we are allowed to discuss political correctness is through comedians, since they have a free pass on what they can say or do.

With the powers invested in me (from myself), and through the powers granted by this forum (cough cough), I hereby ordain each and every participant in this form as official comedians! You are all free to smack anyone else on side the verbal helmet as thy shall wish!

  • @Fightsongwriter But it was a legal basketball play. So he violated an unwritten rule, but legal. I watch these games because it’s a game, it’s fun, I thought it was hilarious. There’s definitely two takes on this, I understand yours too. But I don’t fault a kid for making us smile.

  • It was a legal play, and had he not acted like an ass afterwards, I would have little to say about it. Had he acted like “Hey, what did you expect me to do? I am the opponent!” he could have gotten away with it. But that “I don’t give a f–” was too inflamed, as if he thought KU had been running up the score.

  • @mayjay I personally feel like he did it just because he didn’t want the game to get out of hand. Thirty years from now he can tell his grandkids " we almost beat KU at Allen Fieldhouse because I never gave up!!!

  • In hindsight, Enaruna just shouldn’t have chased him – hands on hips chuckling a bit would have worked nicely.

Or perhaps anice tussle of the player’s hair afterword, you know, a demeaning, “great work Georgie” would have been awesome. Might have sparked a brawl, but still awesome.

I just like imagining what would have happened if a KU player did that when we were losing. I like it best imagining a guy like Anrio Adams or LeGerald Vick doing it. The short leash guys.

  • @HighEliteMajor we know what would have happened!

Agree period. - -Bill was doing them a favor by just standing back and running the clock out. - -The way the game took played could of very easily scored yet ANOTHER Basket - -and this kid is a dick head showed his maturity - looks like he wanted to make sure he could ad to his stats lol hey I got two more points - - guess what sparky - -you still get the L; lol

I’m a comedian now so I can say whatever I want! Damn! Never felt this free before! Maybe someday I can actually say something hilarious and earn my badge!

Seriously… for my sanity, stick around and just be you!

  • let me just say this on this whole DAM thing. - - you don’t like me ? - -that’s , cool – that’s fine - you don’t have to. I am sure your not the only one. Again that’s cool that’s fine – they don’t have to - -I’ll be just fine.

Thing is people that really know me , Know I’m gonna say what I feel - - -I’m gonna say what I think. - -I’m not some kind of suck up - -kiss ass that follows the leader like a little lost pup. - -If I don’t agree with something that is being said - -Then I’m going to let you know – I don’t agree - That MY CHOICE - -see that’s what sweet about America - - This Nation gives us freedom of Speech - - Freedom of Expression- - gotta love this Nation for that.

This is a forum , a discussion market. - people aren’t gonna agree on things - -see that’s the difference I can take heat - -but I also will throw it back - -so you wanna get into that -and get away from what the topic is - then so be it. - - You respect me - - -I’ll respect you - -You wanna talk to me like a piece of crap - -talk your smack then we can do that too. – In order to get respect - -you give respect. - You dis-respect me - -I;m gonna dis respect you - -plain and simple - -end of story

Wish I could see some of what you talk about. - - - RESPECT. - -again you give respect - -you get respect

  • @jayballer73 I have read Kubuckets for several years and no one has been more disrespectful than you.

  • @jayballer73

I’m pointing this at you because you need to be recruited in as a comedian in order to even think about free speech! You shouldn’t be disliked for speaking freely. But heck, might as well be liked, so make someone smile and then try to borrow as much money as you can from them!

    Comedian’s Daily Oath

    1. Say “Richard Pryor” 100 times every morning before you start your illustrious day!

    2. Pay homage to Jaybate for blessing us with his wit and ability to sneak out of here like he was sneaking out of town.

    3. At least once a year, travel to Manhattan and Columbia and clog a public toilet with crimson and blue anything.

    4. Realize that no one is ever going to give you that ultimate respect you thought you deserved, so furgettaboutit and be satisfied making them smile once in a while. Anyways, it will go further with people… being respected is now officially BORING! (ask my kids)

    5. Wear a pink speedo at your next pool party. Thankfully, that probably won’t happen for another half a year so feel free to work on your physique for 6 months. Physique? I meant psyche…

    6. Make up anything you like here and do it… you are now FREE for the first time in your life!

But seriously… or not… it’s best to keep natives of Wisconsin happy. After all, their mascot name is “Badgers” and I don’t think you want to be badgered for the rest of your life! Or deal with the infamous Wisconsin “Karma Kurse”… choking to death on a chunk of cheese! Where do you think the franchise “Chuck E Cheese” came from?

    Teflon… I’m wearing teflon!

    Nice new feature.

  • Last night’s Monday Night Football’s pregame segment “C’mon Man!” featured a basketball segment for the first time. Of course it was the finish to the Monmouth game. They were howling with laughter.

  • approxinfinity said:

    Is that a new feature?

It already looks so nice lol

  • @wrwlumpy oh geez, I missed the pregame. Now the jokes on us?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I missed it too, but there’s only one dude with egg on his face after that deal and it isn’t Tristan.

  • If the team that is up has shown they are no longer trying to score (especially since people get upset with the winning team for running up the score), then the losing team should respect the fact that they are dribbling the clock out.

Does it really matter? No, it was irrelevant in the grand scheme of everything.

But the whole thing is, if Enaruna goes hard to the rim there and dunks on someone, everyone is crushing KU for doing that up 55 points with less than 10 seconds left. So Enaruna dribbles it out and this guy decides he wants to be a rec league legend or something. That’s my only issue. Enaruna is supposed to just dribble it out.

  • @justanotherfan

    To me, it’s either you’re a class act or you’re a dick.

OR - you’re a class act named Dick.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 They weren’t giving us a hard time … the “come on, man” segment is related to things folks do that make you shake your head. They focused on the Monmouth player, with it being a stupid move. Basically, down 55 and you do that, and trash talk afterward? Come on, man.

  • @HighEliteMajor oh good!

  • @drgnslayr etiquette means respect, humility and proper demeanor, not political correctness. That could not be further from the truth. Duesh boy failed miserably on all of those accounts.

  • @wissox I have the utmost respect for you, however, I would bet the house the idea of making spectators smile never entered his mind. It was all pride and arrogance and male ego. To echo our fearless leader HCBS, it was a dick move and an unimpressive one at that.
