Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

  • Pooka is gone according to his dad at the game.

  • You cant lose this game. This loss alone loses 5 recruits. And I’ll eat my words if I’m not right. This program is toxic until they win some mf games. I didn’t get to watch a snap, but Stanley shouldn’t have ever started. Locking should have been the guy from day 1. The “he couldn’t handle it” excise is tired when you see freshman succeed all over the country. Freshman won a NC last season.

    Start the better player.

  • @kjayhawks A competent QB would make a world of difference with this team. That really is the biggest thing they’re missing on offense

The defense also doesn’t have the personnel to run a 3-4. They don’t have a NT to plug the middle or a big DE to stop the run. The LB’s are solid and KU’s secondary one of the best in the conference.

That 4th down sequence when Miles used the last two timeouts happened because he has zero faith in the kicking game right now.

A QB is the biggest game changing player in team sports and KU doesn’t have one right now.

I’m not gonna call for any heads yet, but there should be a change at QB because Stanley is a back up at best.

  • @Kcmatt7 He was a big factor in the loss, 2 picks, one with at least 10 yards of running in front of him. Not having a kicker was costly as well. @Texas-Hawk-10 I agree man, I’m just ticked because we should’ve won tonight.

  • @Kcmatt7 Lawrence didn’t begin the season as the starting QB though last season for Clemson, Kelly Bryant started the season at QB. Similar deal with Hurts and Tua and Bama. Tua didn’t play much his freshman year until the very end when he won the job.

Yea I followed along as much as I could (at a wedding). The guy just doesn’t have the zip. I’ve legitimately seen better QB play at the NAIA level.

You should put up more than 12 points on a D1AA team. Defense could be better, but 7 points is a F-ING joke

  • @kjayhawks We should have, but when you change philosophies on offense, it takes time to get the personnel in to run that system and KU doesn’t have the personnel to run what Miles and Koenning want to run on offense at this time.

It sucks because these are growing pains that look much worse when you’re already a bad program.

Not similar. Hurts played all season until the very last quarter of the NC.

Lawrence played every other series to start last season. Dabo was just nice enough to let Bryant try to win the job.

I gamble a lot, and Clemson is a good bet. So I watch them a lot.

  • @Kcmatt7 Coastal isn’t FCS any more, they’ve been FBS for 3 years now and are a member of the Sun Belt.

It doesn’t even matter. Semantics. Sun Belt will never compete in an FBS bowl game. Might as well be FCS.

You can’t lose this game. Period. Make up whatever excuses you want.

  • Well Boys - - - - - - - -

  • @Kcmatt7 It’s not semantics because the Sun Belt is an FBS conference and has won plenty of FBS bowl games. The conference has even had plenty of huge upsets much bigger than tonight’s game.

There’s nobody trying to claim this isn’t a bad loss, but this wasn’t a loss to an FCS school.

It is the equivalent. Tell yourself whatever you want. This is exactly the loss Les needed to avoid this season.

Pretty sure he flies off the handle every loss.

  • @Kcmatt7 Keep lying to yourself because you’re pissed off.

If you want to keep claiming I’m making excuses, then go ahead and ignore the multiple times I’ve already said this is a bad loss due to not having a QB.

  • @FarmerJayhawk from what my friends(that sit with him) say that he definitely does. I honestly wouldn’t blame him at this point tho. Think of what he could do behind an average oline? Hopefully he was just venting I’m plenty frustrated myself as anyone can see lol.

It’s a dogshit, unacceptable, shitty, terrible, joke of a loss to a school we should never lose to even in our darkest of times.

Trying to bring up that they’re a 3rd rate conference instead of a 4th is trying to soften how bad of a loss it is.

  • Pooka should have left after last season if he was smart. Eligibility-wise.

  • @kjayhawks The OLine isn’t the issue. Stanley is so inept, there’s no reason to respect KU’s passing game as long as Stanley is QB so teams can load up against the run.

This is why Bender so important last year. He was a good enough QB that teams had to respect his passing which in turn opened up the running game a lot more.

  • @Kcmatt7 Have a good night, come back to reality tomorrow.

And we’re lucky we aren’t in the middle of conference realignment

  • Well the Two football teams I pull for - - KU - - & Green Bay Scored a whopping 17 points between them , One Won - -the Other lost

Funny but for some Reason I feel a lot better about Green Bays Chances for having a pretty good season - - - over KU’s winning another game - - - -Could be because Green Bay has Aaron - - KUhas Nobody – Looks like Green Bay has a decent Defense -KU might be ok on Defense - -YET - -at QB - - KU has NOBODY - -have a great night

Sure looks like it - -I watched West Virginia today - -they look like warm puke - -But then we have KU - -not sure what the hell we look like - -I thought we could beat West Virginia - - Now I say NOPE

  • @jayballer73 Not a fair comparison. KU doesn’t get to draft players!

  • I hope everyone calms down a bit. We all knew KU would be bad until Miles’ recruiting is seriously established. People have gone from “probably 0-12” to expecting rapid improvement. A comeback victory last week got everyone thinking, “Just maybe…”

No, maybe not. Be patient. If you are really upset, perhaps the expectations are too high.

This is the right take. Mangino got worked by Bowling Green and UNLV his first year. Beaty and co. left the cupboard pretty bare. I’ll repeat what I’ve said in other threads. There’s just not that much talent.

That being said, the execution and playcalling wasn’t good. I do think it will improve as this staff figures out what they have. The defense is solid. I think Eliot is a keeper. We held them to under 300 yards and 5 yards per play. That’s pretty solid. I’m not sure what we have in MacVitte, but it seems like a good time to find out.

  • @mayjay I didnt expect to win more than 3-4 games. But that ones tough because we had so many opportunities to put more on the board. Hard to find another win on the schedule at this point, we have to find a QB that is at least avg. Carters performance was one of the worst I’ve seen here and that says alot. Dude can’t even hold the ball in his hand for the second week in a row.

  • @FarmerJayhawk There’s going to be a lot of flying off the handle for quite some time

  • nuleafjhawk said:

For sure. I think quite a few fans underestimated the extent of the rebuild.

  • Went to the game tonight with my wife and son. Here’s my take.

    Parking is an obscene nightmare.

The band looked like they just woke up from a nap. And sounded like it too.

Carter Stanley couldn’t start for either of our local High Schools.

If this is the way Les Miles coaches, we need to keep looking.

    The Offensive Coordinator is offensive.

    The crowd was nice.

    The cheerleaders were great!

By the way, if this team played to its potential tonight, we have won all the games we’re going to this year.

  • I maintain, as I have for quite some time, that KU should run the same offense Army runs (Flexbone). Georgia Tech ran it for years. It’s a preparation nightmare. Few teams run it. Few coaches understand it. It requires a less talented QB (meaning passing skills). The QB needs to be an excellent runner (which is easier to find). You can use smaller linemen because much of the blocking is cross, angles, traps, etc. Recruiting is easier on offense.

But it’s irrelevant with Miles as coach. He’s not a flexbone coach.

    Enough of my advice.

I do trust Les to find the answer though. Patience. He’s a winner and won’t accept failure. Let’s judge in 2021-22. Our program is horrible. Can’t cure that overnight.

  • I think this loss set us back another 2 years. We just lost any decent recruit we have and we got out coached by a first year guy. I personally dont believe in Les Miles whatsoever after last nights game. Sad that a good chunk of my buddies as well as me think David Beaty wins last night. Miles’s clock management maybe worse than Beaty’s. Hopefully he is smart enough to take HS recruits not 15 JUCOs.

  • @nuleafjhawk where’d you park?

  • @kjayhawks Any recruit that decommits isn’t decommitting because of yesterday. KU currently has 26 commits, and can’t sign a full 25 man class anyway. KU is going to lose recruits to better offers and not enough space to sign everyone.

If a player is flaky enough to decommit because of one bad game, then that’s probably not a recruit worth signing in the first place.

  • @DanR lol. I’m embarrassed to say. We tried to park at the Mississippi St parking garage, which I was under the impression was free - it was not. Any way, long story short - parked at Wal-Mart and took Uber.

may not have much talent - -BUT you have to start with the QB - -we have none

  • @nuleafjhawk Ouch. Walmart? Sorry, man.

Miss. Street garage and pretty much all campus parking is reserved for donors. Downtown or side streets are the only spots along with campus/shuttles on the other side of the hill by Allen or the athletic fields.

You can drop off at the northeast loop end of the stadium if you have folks with mobility challenges. I hope you made it to the stadium for the one good drive in the first quarter… but otherwise … I thought the band sounded OK.

  • @DanR Yes, we were there a couple of hours early. We saw everything. Good and bad.

I know it’s been a long time since our football team has been taken seriously, but honestly, I was surprised at how unenthusiastic the whole town seemed. I remember driving through Pittsburg, Ks a couple of times, and it’s like WOW - these folks are behind their team. Businesses, residences, everybody’s flying flags and banners, and wearing “the colors”.

Were you at the game? I think the thing that got me the most was how …meh… the crowd was when they introduced the players. The KU Players!! Literally nobody cheered. I started to clap and looked around and thought “whoa, what kind of weird no cheer tradition is this?”. You don’t see that in AFH.

Anyway, I hope they get it figured out soon. It looks to be another long, horrid Big 12 season from what I’ve seen so far.
