ISU game chat

  • Les Miles now has the highest winning percentage in KU history! 🔥

  • B12 struggling a ton today ISU in the second OT with UNI and WV down at the half 7-3

  • @Gorilla72 2nd best, Fielding Yost went 10-0 as Jayhawks head coach.

JMU is the second ranked FCS team. They could beat quite few FBS teams, including several P5 programs.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Same percentage, though! Sorry, couldn’t resist.

  • Stat of the day: James Sosinski now has more points for the football team (6) than the basketball team (4) haha.

  • Iowa State escapes in the 3rd overtime after recovering their own fumble inside the 2 yard line. WV now tied late in the third. I hope all B12 teams win besides KSUCK.

  • @mayjay Yost won more games, that’s my tie breaker.

Too bad KU didn’t keep Yost or Kansas football would likely have a very different and much more positive history that it does.

  • Watching Coastal Carolina play eastern Michigan right now. I thought maybe ISU could be the better team but I’m not sure. These guys look to have good size and speed.

  • @kjayhawks Those are two bad teams. From the little bit I watched, I think ISU is better than both CCU and EMU.

  • Solid win. The line play wasn’t great on either side, but did just enough. Stanley was passable. Kid has stones. Rumor is MacVittie is nicked up. I didn’t love the playcalling, especially in the first half. I think the offense will be a work in progress as the staff gets a better idea of what they have. Pooka will make a huge difference next week. Pooka + a week of film to digest makes me think we’ll be better next week. It is abundantly clear this staff can coach. Les was a steady force out there and even had his great Mad Hatter moment. We’re in a good spot.

    Stanley is an adventure lol

If Stanley is an adventure - - what does that say about McVittie? - -not a single snap

  • Think David Lawrence made a pretty accurate statement after KU went down . - -After the game he said - -that’s the difference between last years team and then this years team.

Last year after ISU went up late - would of been ballgame. - - Not this year - -said it’s all about changing of the environment - -chemistry.

Stanley was far far from perfect today - - Yet got to give him props on that last drive very solid drive - - It’s a win and we move forward from here guys - - take the win - -we got ALOT of work to do , BUT, you crawl before you walk - -hopefully we can learn from the mistakes today , enough of them to learn from.

Curious to see if he tries McVittie to start next week? - -Maybe he STILL doesn’t know who he wants - -yet he said he would play 2 QB’s a lot - that’s what surprised me more then anything - - - no McVittie all day not ONE snap -they pretty well stuffed our running game after that 1st run by Herbert - -will be good to have Pookie next weekend. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 definitely tough to gauge. Usually most teams make a big jump from week one to two. Hopefully we are one of those teams, with the added plus of Pooka Magic.

  • @jayballer73 I like the idea of sticking with someone, so its not the revolving door like with Beaty. Stanley definitely had some bad passes and poor plays. But most of which is very correctable, like leading you back forward on a screen and hanging on to the snap. Getting timing down with receivers and what not. I’d give him at least 3 games if he looked better all during camp and earned his spot.

  • It does my heart no good to see KSU score on their first 4 possessions vs Nicholls State…

  • @Gorilla72 Nichols did lose some guys on defense, but I too thought that would be a close game. A person never really knows, I didnt figure ISU would need 3 OTs and a fumble bouncing their way to beat UNI either.

  • Big 12 stays unbeaten with one game left this weekend as OU plays Houston tomorrow night. Boston College looked sloppy vs Virginia Tech tonight winning 35 to 28. Former KU QB Ryan Willis was terrible turning over the ball 4 times tonight (3 picks and a fumble) and someone else also lost a fumble for VT. Not often does a team lose on the road by a score with that many TOs.

  • Hey, we’ve got some terrific receivers; all the other parts, especially the offensive line were pretty poor. I’m looking forward to getting Pooka back and seeing the post-game one improvement that sometimes happens.

I’ve got mixed feelings about the oline. Pooka will make them look better and it’s not like Stanley is doing too much even when he has time. I think overall the line was okay. It will improve as this staff starts getting in their own HS kids.

I have to agree with you BShark - I think overall for the 1st game the O-Line did OK - - -The one thing and I don’t know how many fricken times I’ve said this - happened with the old staff and even now – Get rid of that dam little flare pass in the flat - -NOT ONCE have I ever seen ANYTHING good come out of that. - Almost every dam time they try running that thing we got thrown for big loss.

Stanly can run some but like has been mentioned by some others I think actually - - Terry Locklin will be our best QB at the present anyways - -a more true Dual threat QB - has some motor to him - - Cater can run some but not like Locklin for sure. - -

It was the 1st game you take the win and improve from here - -last year we would of lost that game - -Pooka will help for sure - -however the O-Line has to be able to provide a hole to run through get that straightened up quick

  • @BShark From Section 26, Row 28, I saw ISU defenders in our backfield on almost every play. Our backs were being met with a defender 5 yards into the backfield. Maybe that’s correctable. On our side of the ball, our defense rarely put any pressure on the QB or running backs. I just expected a lot more from our experienced offensive line and the defensive line is as weak as many predicted.

  • @stoptheflop remember there’s beer this season so we can drink within the stadium when things head south lol.

  • I really dont think there is any reason to panic right now. Last season after losing to Nichols, I thought we were probably only winning one game. Beaty and his staff improved the team and with pooka we were able to win 3 games. Several years we have seen a Bill Snyder mildcat team escape week one with a narrow victory but end up winning 6-8 games. Heck in 2011 they scored in the last few minutes to beat a FCS team in eastern Kentucky that would only win 3 games all year and KSUCK ended up winning 10 games. The point is, that good coaching staffs make their teams better each week and I’m interested to see how much Miles can improve this team by mid season.

  • @kjayhawks Agree. they need a set time limit. If it takes longer than 5 min how can it be indisputable?

  • In other good news Steven Sims JR has made the roster for the Washington Redskins.

  • I rewatched our winning drive and was impressed with the protection the O-line gave Stanley on that drive. Maybe that’s a sign of better line play going forward. Also, Stanley’s goal line play the previous series should have been called an incomplete pass; Stanley was in the process of passing when the ball was knocked loose. It sure seemed like the refs were very quick to call that a fumble. The stadium announcer called it a backwards pass, but of course there wasn’t a receiver behind Stanley.

  • @stoptheflop I agree, go back and watch KSUs “forward pass” against Mississippi State last season. The one looked like a fumble more so than Stanley’s and by a lot.

  • @stoptheflop Even though most of the OLine played last year, several of those guys (center and right side) are in new positions so there is a little bit of a learning curve. I’m not too worried, but it’ll take a couple of games for their chemistry at their current positions to gel together.

  • @stoptheflop that and sitting here thinking about how they didnt even review it ticks me off. It was a crucial play for both teams and late in the going. I’m not sure who the crew was but I hope they weren’t B12 and we never see them again.
