Hudy going to Texas
-
Sad day. Would love to know why.
-
Man surprisingly bad news. There are plenty of other trainers that can and will get the job done.
-
Got tipped off earlier today this would happen. Rumor is it’s the reorganization of the medical staff but can’t say for sure.
-
That totally, well, sucks. Oil money, folks.
-
Long changing things a lil to quickly. Bringing in his Arkansas buddies. I just hope Self agreed, not pissing him off. But Shaka,
-
@Crimsonorblue22 But why would that affect Hudy? … (a few minutes later) Okay, sorry, I read the article - understand now.
-
Looks like we need a recruiting board for Athletic Trainers now…
-
In all seriousness this is a big loss for KU. Reading the tea leaves of this sounds like KU messed up in a big way restructuring as Hudy isn’t the only to leave KU since it happened. Since the kids are on break I’m sure Self has a short time frame to get someone in place before they get back for the start of school.
Thank you Hudy for your 15 years here. I never thought she’d leave. Always a hawk!
I know Hudy is free to pick where she lands as she chooses but in conference for Shaka. Disgusting choice.
-
I’m sad to see her go, but we’ll find someone good to replace her. Maybe Tyrel …
-
Damn. That’s a huge loss not just for the basketball and football teams but for KU as well. Hudy is arguably the best at what she does and was a great ambassador for the University. I can’t imaging Bill is very happy with this.
-
That’s a huge blow for the basketball program.
-
Good article from a few years ago.
-
Will be able to watch her in Austin but damn it’s going to be hard to see her in burnt orange
Nothing official today here on UT site.
-
@RockChalkinTexas I’d guess if coach wanted her to stay, she’d still be here? Love the new avi!
-
I believe the change to KU Medical College plus a LOT OF $$$$ helped her decision. She will have unlimited means to get their programs in shape and perhaps that is what her reasoning is.
Angry Jayhawk is what I want to see this coming conference season! Against every team! Every game!
-
I thought Hudy did an amazing job, but maybe change will be good for both parties.
-
She will be missed no doubt, but we are a top tier program so her replacement will solid.
-
@dylans 2 yrs w/Dedric?
-
I bet Texas is paying her a boat load of money.
-
This an area where most of us have no idea who the best replacements may be. Any thoughts on an individual or timetable?

Lots of magic in the weight room, but you can’t make someone athletic.
Dedric is definitely on your “coal in the stocking” list …
-
@HighEliteMajor I swear I could make him move better! I like him, just can’t believe he can’t improve!
-
Hudy was a big reason behind a lot of players developing at KU. This is a huge change.
In the same way that our big man rotation took a hit when Manning left, this will affect development.
-
This makes me so sad
-
-
@Crimsonorblue22 A cattle prod would probably help Dedrick. Dude just didn’t understand how to hustle. I believe he believes he did hustle though.
-
Had she remained at KU, Hudy’s job would have looked slightly different this fall.
KU in May announced a “groundbreaking” collaboration with University of Kansas Health System and LMH Health called Kansas Team Health, aiming to minimize potential conflicts of interest between medical personnel and the university’s coaches and administrators. Under the policy, Hudy and about 40 other sports medicine staffers — other strength and conditioning coaches, physicians, athletic trainers, nutritionists and wellness coordinators — were to be converted to employees of University of Kansas Health Systems, reporting to medical professionals rather than athletic department personnel.
That was from Topeka cap.
-
Not liking Jeff long at the present.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Agreed. This is a real misstep.
-
@dylans Dedric was on a different speed than everyone else. He always looked like he played in slow motion.
-
@KUSTEVE Even after my surgery I could jump higher than him

Sounds like the AD is being proactive so as to make med staff independent. Would seem to be a good move to help limit liability. Just a thought.

I was wondering how much KS team health knows about s and c? Pretty sure, not much. Kinda wonder how that all works. I know she is employed by them and probably has to wear their polo?. They are calling the shots. Do they let hudy do her clinics in the off season? Have they cut her gravy train off. Her equipment is expensive. I’m sure her budget has changed and maybe her paycheck? Will this hurt getting a new person? Tait said Self hadn’t thought of anyone yet. Made me think this was a surprise. I also heard she was let go? Who knows? I have several friends that think she was over rated. Not sure what I think. Lots of questions, I think the timing stinks. Do these people have contracts?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Texas Athletics has literally twice the budget of Kansas. They will have no problem paying for her equipment and her probably much higher salary.
-
@kjayhawks yep, not worrying about Texas
-
“(The) coach is still involved in the hiring,” Long said in May. “But there’s others involved as well to make sure that that strength coach or that trainer has the proper credentials and understands our model and can operate and work in our new model.”
Understands our model and can work in our new model. Glad the coach is still involved in the hiring!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I hope Bill likes Jeff Long.
-
-
Long said, “We appreciate Coach Hudy’s contributions to Kansas Athletics and are proud that she has been recognized nationally as a role model for young women who are interested in sports performance. We wish her well as she pursues other challenges.”
Just a role model for young women? I (40 year old man) respected the hell out of her! Does Long have a problem with Hudy? Is he a meat head? Or did he just adopt a bad policy?
-
Just think this is NOT a good move. - - Hudy did a un-believable job with the guys - - plus I think the players had a true likeness and respect for her and the things she brought to the table for them.
I don’t know how many times I heard different people players speak about her and what a great job she had done Sure hope this doesn’t come back to bite us in the ass as far as conditioning and strength goes with the guys. - She gave many years to this School - not really sure this is what she really wanted to do - -But have to respect here decision.- Again hope this doesn’t hurt us in the long run
Kinda like When Danny left from Coaching our Big’s - - Still don’t think we have had anyone on his level as far as Coaching the Big’s At Any rate - - Thank you Hudy what you gave the University - -sorry to see you go to - to fricken Texas of all places – Smart sure doesn’t deserve you - Gonna miss you - good luck - -always a Jayhawk - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Weird.
Will be interesting to see who the replacement is.
-
I noticed that too.
-
I don’t even recognize Doke with his new Hudy Body!
-
@dylans I think the comment about being a role model for young women is due to Hudy breaking down people’s stereotypes about s & c coaches. No one ever doubted that men can be those coaches, but she no doubt brought attention to women that these jobs can be sought by them.
Unless you were familiar with Hudy at UConn, how many of us KU fans even considered that the basketball s&c job might be filled with a woman?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Got to wondering if this isn’t a “last chance” to save Shaka’s job…He is definitely on the edge and attendance has dramatically nose dived. Plus they have to pay for the new stadium and with turnout so low, they look to be on their heels and gasping for any reasons to blame past years’ efforts on “not having the right strength coach” and telling fans to “give it some time”.

no this is not to save his job
