New 2019 Recruiting

KU has reached out to Boogie.

Doesn’t matter but might as well? 🤷🏼

  • Well he can shoot better then what we currently have. I’ll take any and all shooters we can get

  • @BeddieKU23 I’d take him but there is no chance. Can’t even see getting a visit.

  • @BShark I don’t see it, but sure doesn’t hurt. Only makes sense if Dotson is gone. My guess is he just waits out the withdrawal deadline at this point. May 29th isn’t that far away.

    DOTSON IS NOT GONE

  • @JAYHAWKFAN214 I sure hope you are right!

  • Self is certainly recruiting as if there’s a chance Dotson could stay in the draft. He made the Combine. Whether anyone wants to believe it or not, coming back to Kansas is the fall back option here

  • @JAYHAWKFAN214

    He’s not “back” either.

  • BShark said:

Wouldn’t that be interesting if we do.

  • Seen a Devon Tweet - -only consisted of 30 seconds - -titles - -at work. - Showed a guy defending him and Devon working on his Jumper. - -showed a guy stationary and Devon kind of using him as a pick against his man - and shooting the J. - - I just don’t know. - -seems like when he wants something - - he gets it - -hard worker - at 1st I said NO WAY - just all depends on how well he shows. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73

The questions about Devon’s weaknesses or area’s he can improve will not go away. What’s going to matter is how well he performs and how his strengths are viewed to scouts.

I’m honestly hoping he returns but these situations are not cut and dry. He made the right call declaring as it led to a combine invite at a setting that should be somewhat advantageous to him. He’ll have the ball in his hands if he plays in the combine games. Can show off his speed, defense and finishing ability. Players get drafted for less

  • Sure would be nice if KU got a commitment over the weekend to get the ball rolling.

  • @BShark Man, I couldn’t agree more.

  • Agree. I’m just waiting on the whole “in 10 days everything will clear up”

  • rockchalkwyo said:

Doke and they were probably thinking an answer on Silvio either way.

That said, commitments are coming I’m sure.

  • @BShark Where’d that comment come from?

  • @BShark All good. But worth discussing.

  • HighEliteMajor said:

It’s definitely an angle that schools play. It was actually put out there that Notre Dame did it with a kid that was going to go to Maryland. His name is eluding me at the moment.

I think I’ll revisit this if Enaruna picks Creighton.

  • I’m thinking we need to do away with the Weekends during our recruiting. - -When Friday Night Thru Sunday comes around this place is DEAD lmao. - -I need my recruiting fix 24/7 so I come here and less action/people then the shoot ort at the Ok Coral - I start going through withdrawal - -without my fix - -JUMPIN - -GEE- - HOSSIE - -TOADS. - - welp guess I’ve just gotta maintain till Monday – dam lol

  • @jayballer73 - recruits seem to be enjoying the weekend scene at KU. Maybe it’s just us older folks need the fix.

  • Really frustrating year recruiting wise.- Saw Rayjon had tweeted some more , but getting to thinking – maybe he just loves twitting - -getting the spotlight - -who knows, you really can’t take a lot from it at this point really don’t know at this point.

Looking more and more like quite possibly that RJ does commit to fricken Memphis - - I think it’s still gonna be a hard draw to get Tucker away from Auburn it sounds like - - - Enaruna - not really very sure about that , sounds like he is wanting quality playing time his Fresh year , just not real sure that’s happening here. - - -Holyfield -real good chance he ends up at Illinois with Underwood. - - - After we supposedly had Earl locked what happens? - - goes to another school. - - Then we had Stanley , people thinking we had a legit chance and BAM - - - Duke

More Frustration - -makes it even worse , and actually for the 1st time begins to make me wonder - - do we need a shake up in Coach Self’s staff? - I have said this before – we are just NOT closing the deal on these kids - - someone is NOT finishing the job , looking like once these kids talk very favorable then whoever backs off -slacks like I dunno staying on top of these kids until they have signed that paper. - -we have got to grab these kids by the throat - -stay on them don’t EVER take anything for granted with these kids. - -been mentioned - we maybe need new blood injected in the staff.

The frustration for me is seeing Calipari his success. They just got their commitment from Kahlil Whitney # 8 in the Nation - -their 6th for 2019. - -BUT here is the deal Calipari in his 11 years at Kentucky has got 52 commitments from top – 50 kids - – in those 11 yrs - - - he has gotten 43 commitments from top 25 kids during these 11 yrs - – - -And 23 commitments from - - - top 10 players during that time. - - I can’t stand Calipari - -BUT numbers don’t lie - the Guy can flat out recruit he and his staff obviously - - which only leads to my statement about possibly needed fresh blood injected into our staff. - -yr after yr they continue to whip ass in recruiting. - -what have we gotten during that time frame - Hell we haven’t come that close in Coach Self’s 16 yrs.

The only positive as small as it is in recruiting - I was reading off the UK boards - - they were talking about future recruits and listed who they were and their chances - the focus was about them losing ground with Scottie Barnes ?

Well there was a couple of so called analyst talking about where uncommitted recruits and 2020 recruits were going to land. - -This guy named - - Kendyl Provost Jr of the West Coast that is connected/projecting players follows a lot of players and such - - -He predicting that we STILL will get RJ - -and also predicting that we land Precious - -Sooo whatever that’s worth if anything.

One thing I wonder now - - With Kentucky getting the commit out of Whitney - -how does that effect Johnny J ? - -both play the same position both 6’6 SF - -says He still wants in at Kentucky - - just insane - -think we got ANY shot?

  • Oh man @jayballer73 wooosssaaaa

  • @jayballer73 If it makes you feel any better about all those wonderful recruits Calipari gets. He has the same amount of championships as KU and one more NIT appearance. He’s about as successful at buying a roster as the Yankees of late.

    OMG 💀

Whatever the discussion, it seems to me, we need to start at the top.

That said, this all seems largely related to the FBI/Adidas deal. I think we all agree that is the lynch pin in all of this. A storm we just have to whether. It’s impacted two recruiting classes.

I’m supposing that envelopes of cash aren’t being provided by our booster … uh, recruiting partner, Adidas. I’m supposing recruits are considering the fallout from the FBI/Adidas deal and the possibility of probation (no tourney appearance). I’m supposing that having a McDonald’s AA get limited run, Q’s draft stock sinking like a rock, Doke coming back and clearly being the focal point, and a situation where our offensive approach is murky (3/2 vs. 4/1), all play a bit into this. I also think that we are handicapped, always, in recruiting with Self because of how he has handled better players vs. below avg. role players (Brady, Traylor, LL). We can disagree on that last point, but if you’re recruit, and you have choice, why would you want to play for a coach that plays his pets over NBA level talent (that you, as a recruit, think you are)? Of course, there are lots of successes and counter-narratives that have significant weight as well.

The reality is that we have a top 5 roster of talent nearly every season. There is no arguing that. It’s just one man’s job to make those rosters successful.

Heading into next season, my concern is that we repeat this past season – going all in with a scheme focused on Doke, who has proven highly fragile. SDS’s appeal looms, too, for recruits considering KU.

Back to the FBI/Adidas deal, the question is, how long is the storm? And what do things look like after the storm passes?

doesn’t replace the fact bottom line is he is getting them. - -doesn’t say a thing about his Coaching abilities. - - I’ve seen multiple Great recruiting coach’s that can’t Coach - perfect example was coach Owens back in his day - -recruited many really good players back in his day - just didn’t do squat with them.

Bottom line is UK just continually kicks our ass in recruiting – The thing is in reality the programs NOT that much difference - just UK has a staff that can sell a program - - finish out - -we obviously don’t - -we CAN NOT FINISH. - -it shows year after year after year. - - I’m not talking with this topic about winning National Championships - -this topic is about RECRUITING - -where they whip our ass like a Church House mouse - year - - after year – after year. -Their staff can finish. - Again I’m not talking Coaching ability - -for me Calipari - has NOTHING on Self as far as Coaching - - perfect example was our NC against Memphis

I have NO PROBLEM - - ZELCH about Coach Self and his coaching - perfect examples with his success against Duke - - North Carolina - - -and others - -just simply saying it very well could be time for Coach to bring in new blood for his staff - -the results in recruiting are right there in front of our face - -top quality commits don’t lie

It’s not about wonderful recruits - it’s I’d like to be able to land some of those wonderful recruits. - -you have to get the players to get the results - -were NOT getting the players. I think Coach is the better Coach - -so 1st we need those players to see. - -Job is not getting done

  • @jayballer73 Howard is the obvious keeper. We need atlleast one new assistant as a replacement for whoever is the weak link among the others. Loyalty dies hard, but in the end an assistant needs to be able to recruit.

  • @Marco who would that be? Pretty sure Howard is looking for a head job.🥴

  • @Marco How is Howard the obvious keeper? His recruiting has been less stellar his entire time at Kansas. The two highest rated recruits he’s ever signed have had major issues. Cliff Alexander with the NCAA and Quentin Grimes and Cliff were both busts on the court. He’s only landed 3 top 50 recruits ever as an assistant coach.

To me, Howard has always been the weakest link on the coaching staff. Recruiting slipped under him as he has had a lot of high profile misses.

  • @jayballer73 I don’t think it is anything the staff is doing or not doing…Totally related to the uncertainty of the FBI thing.

  • According to Zagsblog.com, Lester Quinones (6’6” SG) is down to Indiana and Memphis. If he chooses Memphis, what are the ramifications for Hampton and others? Announcement Friday, 5/10.

The pick is expected to be Memphis fwiw.

    🔒🔒🔒🔒

  • How many scholarships does Memphis still have open?

  • @Woodrow 4 or 5

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Just a thought? Townsend…

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 But who else is outrecruiting him? I might be out of the loop. I’m not sure that Howard knew that the players, all highly regarded, would be busts.

  • Let’s not forget Howard had the scout against dook last year, where Self had one of the finest coaching performances I can remember from him. I agree that if anyone should go (which, no thanks), it should be Townsend. Remember Howard also got the Lawson’s via his connection to Memphis when he was lead on Vick. SMU connections and all that jazz.

  • @Marco who would we replace him with?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I think that Aaron Miles, as some have said, would be a great fit. Those Washington/West Coast ties are intriguing, to say the least.

  • @Marco

Agree about Miles. Have to figure that helps with PG recruiting as well

  • I have Memphis with 3 open slots unless his son isn’t on scholarship

He’s only landed 3 top 50 recruits, not especially impressive considering how long he’s been here at this point.

Norm and KT both have a better track record in recruiting than Howard does. Howard is KU’s weak link in recruiting.

If we count transfers, the number is 5 or 6. Dedric and Malik were pretty good here.

  • Looks like Georgia just dropped their 5th bag of cash off this cycle to 4 Star PG Wheeler. Former Texas A&M commit is deciding between them and Iowa St. Iowa St insider dropped a CB for Georgia so that sounds like a wrap.

  • Unreal what’s going on at Georgia right now. Tom recruiting 10x better than he ever did at Indiana and nobody appears to be batting an eye and it’s hystercal

That’s when you know it’s really over.

    @Kcmatt7 NOTHING TO SEE HERE

  • KU BUMPSSSS BOIS

McBride up 51 slots in 24/7 ranking and Braun up 99…

Didn’t Braun grow an inch or two? I thought he was listed at 6-5 or so, and now is more like 6-7. I may be remembering wrong, though. That would be reason to bump him up.
