Walking wounded invades TCU

Bill pressing the right buttons again. The entire offense looked more aggressive last night without anyone deferring to our piss poor senior leader to do something. I’m still holding my breath that Grimes breaks out sometime in the next month. If he does, this team is still dangerous.

To steal a line from Bill Raftery:

    “Get the puppies organized”

Self re-organized the puppies and wow did this team looks different last night.

The fact Bill is able to even field a team capable of making the tournament after losing what could be 4 of our 6 best players is absurd.

I also fully expected it, which is why I put $200 on the game last night… Bill is gonna Bill.

  • @BShark I noticed, not I word from la la last pm! She cheered all thru oks game. Hmmm

  • @Kcmatt7

I was amazed after the game to be honest.

I’m eating coal and humble pie today after thinking they were toast last night before the game and in the last few minutes of regulation as the lead slipped away. It just felt like so many other moments this season but this game was different. Guys took the adversity and fought back.

This felt like the defining moment of the season. Seeing the post game locker room with Self and the players confirmed just how big a win this was.

Heck with the streak it was great to see this team take a step forward in putting all adversity behind them.

I think Self has a group of 8 (soon to be 9) that will/has bought in. They played for each other last night and gave maximum effort almost the entire game. As soon as Vick is outed Dotson steps up, Agbaji steps up, Mitch steps up, KJ steps up. It’s not hard to see the impact cutting ties with Vick has already had. Crazy.

  • @dylans I understand disappointment but it is the negative nastiness in the last few minutes of regulation I was responding to.

I don’t know who said what, and anyone who did what I am saying can take it or leave it. But frankly last night’s chorus was like being in the stands and having people shoving you out of the way before a game is over because they have given up and don’t give a shit about other people still cheering and trying to enjoy the game.

    Sorry double post.

  • Lots of fan police here. I’m guilty myself. I hate reading some run Self into the ground every chance they get. I now just ignore the main offender. I’ve realized I can not carry on a civil disagreement with some and the discussion that follows will always lead to nastiness, so I just don’t start the conversation. I despise reading posts of some who can’t handle the game time pressure but really appreciate other things they post, so I take the good with the bad. I’m trying my best to not let people I don’t really know impact my fun, hope you can too.

  • @dylans As a cool guy on here says, “I’m Responsible Only For What I Say, Not What You Understand.”

Last night was unique in both volume and intensity. Ignoring a couple comments is different than wading through a bunch. I guess I will just go back to not participating in the game thread. I definitely find that better anyway in terms of being able to follow the action instead of looking at my phone keyboard.

  • @mayjay It’s easier if I don’t read them. I pop in, make a comment, and pop off. If we’re losing, I don’t go on it at all.

  • I can only do the live chat if I’ve had a few drinks first haha

  • I have tried to do the live chat but it distracts me from yelling at the tv.

  • I do acknowledge the irony of waxing negatively about negativity.

And I probably should explain that my reaction last night came no doubt from 2 things–all the comments made me think my cable feed was behind, and that I was reading comments at the end of the game. I kept hitting the “info” button to see if I was caught up. Since we were only 4 pts behind I did not see why people were so fed up and giving up. After all, 9 pts with 2:12 left in 2008…

But it also no doubt had to do with growing up with a dad who was always so angry watching sports that no one could stand being around him. And he would be angry at anyone who didn’t agree with him. So, sports PTSD, I guess.

    Apologies for squished toes.

  • @mayjay The reason people were frustrated was because KU blew a 12 point lead and had shown an ability to close games on the road this season. It looked like KU was getting ready to do what they had typically done on the road this season.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 While the team was collapsing (again), I was thinking that if we could just manage to regroup and come out on top it would be the biggest victory of the year so far.

I would have typed that lat night, but I was busy complaining about Self putting Dedric in the position to be the hero.

  • @mayjay I’m w/you! People calling game over must have missed some great games in the past! I’m always hoping they leave, kinda like the West Virginia game at home when they showed fans(?) leaving and we had that great come back!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 It was also nice that Dickie V did that game. No one can call out fans for leaving like he does! His commentary and schtick get tiring, but no one can say he hasn’t given his life to promoting the game. If HE says real fans don’t leave, well, I believe him!

  • I consider myself to be one of the more optimistic rats here, but as we pissed away that big lead in the final minutes, I too felt like we were toast. Not just in another disheartening road loss but in our quest for #15 too.

My hand was on the off button in anticipation of what I arbitrarily deem the point of no return in a game. One eye closed, the other squinted and my stomach felt a bit sick as it always does when we lose and My finger almost pressed down. A 17-2 run by the bad guys in the last few minutes coupled with 4 TOs and the inability for anyone to make FTs can do that to me.

But then… something happened that I didn’t see coming with this group given their recent past road performances. We played through our mistakes and fought back to send the game to OT with unheralded K.J. slipping in the last bucket in regulation.

    I’m so glad I hesitated!

Yes, I should have been happy enough that they finally played with heart for 38 minutes. Yes, I should have kept my premature “that was ugly” comment to myself. But dang it sure looked like “deja vu all over again”.

This group proved to me that they are capable of fighting back from deficits on the road and I’ll keep my trigger finger in check the rest of the season. Like Beddie i too feel it was a turning point.

It’s good to be proven wrong like that and a good reminder that, as always, it’s good to be a Jayhawk.

  • @StLJhawk Nice post. I almost went to bed, too, because I only had 4 hrs sleep the night before, and then thought about all the people who went to bed and missed Mario’s shot and the OT in 2008. Then I said, “4 points? Who gets so scared at 4 points? Not me!” and bravely faced the next 120 seconds, which became 620 seconds, which got me so amped I was up 2 more hours reading the box and all the recaps. Which has me exhausted after another 4 hr night. But well worth it!

I generally skip it until after the game, but I was stuck in a hotel in Denver last night. Normally my feed is behind and I’m watching the game with friends and/ or family.

Heck, I enjoy the game over comments at the end too, as long as it’s their last comment.

    👌😉

  • I was ticked at the end of the game, I think most of us fans were like here we go again. Missed free throws, silly turnovers. We have just seen that movie far too many times. I don’t think I was too bad on here lol except how pissed I was at Moores first half play. I never thought we was done because we still had almost 2 minutes and the ball down 4. Hopefully that gives us confidence in the next close game to just go ahead and make the free ones lol.

  • @kjayhawks I for one will work extra hard at not missing any.🏀

  • Has to be the most insane statement of the decade - - -A individual saying that they want to see Charlie More on the floor much more then Dotson - How Charlie is a much better ball player.

    Hmmmm - -things that make you say - - " Houston - -we have a problem " – This is ground control to Major Toung - 4 – -3 - --2 - -1

Man I’d give anything to be smoking whatever this idiot was - -some really good shit – put the pipe down and slowly back away - -I swear do some think about what they are saying before they say it - - -Charlie Moore better - - REALLY ?

  • @jayballer73 That’s just kooky talk!

  • I enjoyed the last game thread. Everyone is a known commodity and I dont think the negativity was excessive. Just as this team learns to trust each other in crunch time with a big win, we too should learn to trust this team.
