@BShark I realize Moore can handle the ball a bit, but I would not play him. I’d roll the dice with the ball in any of the other guard’s hands while Dotson is resting/out. Moore’s PER is 6.6 in 256 minutes. He is maybe the worst player Self has played significant minutes. Of course, a blind squirrel can find a nut here and there. Never know.
This is the perfect day to change things up – start McCormack, Dedric, Vick, Agbaji, and Dotson.

I would play Grimes at PG before Moore. I would agree Moore is not a valid player but he will have to play some unless Bill does go big like your starting line-up.

@Woodrow Yes, that was my main concern when I heard about Marcus…he is our best chance at limiting damage by Culver.
-
@HighEliteMajor who r our other guards besides those 3?

They will pick Moore like a

Moore would do good at d-2
-
If Moore didn’t dribble and was just a spot up shooter, well maybe

When I think about the preseason hype and our team at this point, Chuck Moore and Q are big disappointments. But, that’s based on what people around the program were saying about these two athletes and the summer tournament. There’s just too much hype about new players. I need to pay less attention, meaning none to the preseason hype machines.
-
@stoptheflop I saw grimes play, he was great in the USA games, I mean great. Mvp. Saw the guys play overseas, w/out Dedric, the year before. Nothing special.
-
I have no idea who I would run as the second PG today. I would honestly lean towards Moore because he has the second lowest TO% among the guards just behind Garrett at 13.2%. This is likely going to be a low possession game so that would be the edge I would give for this game. In a faster game, I would go with Grimes because TO’s wouldn’t be as big. In a low possession game like this figures to be, limiting TO’s is going to be hugely important and protecting the ball is one thing Moore is good at.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Grimes would be the 4th guard, coming in off the bench. Grimes handles it ok. It’s just not a good situation right now handling the ball when Dotson’s out.
@Texas-Hawk-10 The turnover percentage stat can of course be deceiving if someone isn’t a ball handler when comparing to a ball handler. But Moore has handled the ball a good chunk of his time on the court. I think this is a really good point. That might sway Self. Depends on what he wants. Also, if we see Moore in late, perhaps, handling the ball, that may be why. Interestingly, Garrett’s turnover rate is pretty good too.
-
@HighEliteMajor Garrett has the lowest TO% among the guards which is why I’ve been advocating him running point over Dotson for awhile now. Garrett running point does two things in my opinion.
First, it forces defenses to guard him because he’s running the show so it masks his poor shooting to an extent.
Second, it would allow Self to run action to get Dotson better looks, including more 3 point looks which KU desperately needs since Dotson is knocking those down at a 40% clip. I’d love to see Dotson get to where he’s taking 7-8 shots from 3 per game and moving him off the ball would allow him to take advantage of his speed and quickness to get those open looks.

@HighEliteMajor totally missed u didn’t have grimes on there.

Is this one of you guys that did this? I swear we’ve had this exact conversation. Lol

On the line

No way we are winning today but Marcus I dont think makes a difference in the outcome. We are playing a good defensive team and Marcus cant shoot. He would have probably helped guard Culver. Now he will have 35 today
This post aged well. LOL

@BeddieKU23 Who could have predicted KU would play like the Warriors in the first half?
-
@BShark @BeddieKU23 Today, I strongly thought we’d win. I rarely have strong beliefs on such things but today seemed like the right convergence. Further, it is quite amazing that we were able to win without Garrett (a bit tongue in cheek there). Our offense looked better today than it has in a long time. I’m not connecting that to Garrett being out, but if Garrett would have played, who wouldn’t have started (and how would that have impacted the first 5-6 minutes). Charlie Moore played ok, too – kind of shot hunting there, particularly the one at the end of the half. I couple of those defensive chances were a bit humorous though.
-
@BShark they couldn’t dble team Dedric in the post or play off anyone! So we know all r capable!
-
This looked like our new starting lineup to me. It was our best game of the year. A start to finish butt kicking of a very very good team. I like Garrett off the bench as a defensive savant moving forward. The 5 guys who started the game are the 5 we want on the floor. Proof is in the results of the best we have looked all year.
-
Keeping Dedric up top helped too
-
Yeah you were right, I was wrong and feeling down about what we had saw on the road in the past week, the general downward momentum of this team. But the home cooking and Silvio situation was the perfect fuel. Will it last playing K ST Tuesday who knows. It was an impressive win on multiple fronts, we had Matthew Hurt here and he had to be happy with what he saw

High ankle sprains take longer to heal as we all know.
We will see if Garrett’s excellent defense and intangibles are indispensable.
These sort of situations seem to be where Bill Self is at his best.
And some people say you only run down Bill Self…
-
@HighEliteMajor as to shot hunting: you think Bill Self called that last play of first half?
-
@Bwag I think he called a play, but I doubt it was Charlie taking a 25 footer with 7 seconds left.
Maybe he took what Devonte said in his pregame talk to the team a little too literally -
Devonte’ told them, ‘We never passed up shots. I watched you guys, and guys pass them up all the time. I don’t care what coach says, shoot the ball,’”
-
@HighEliteMajor I think somebody sent chuck to the rr, or should have!
