Bill lives for stats like this.

LOVE LOVE LOVE how aggressive KU was tonight. Got to the ft line and hit quite a few there too.

  • I’m fired up @Crimsonorblue22

  • Chuck only played 4 minutes. I’m excited.

  • If chuck doesn’t worry about upchucking he’d be fine. Just out of control.

  • @approxinfinity 24% is a number we should get used to. Maybe even strive for.

We’d better get a LOT of 0 - 15’ shots and learn how to shoot free throws.

  • With this poor shooting team, we sure could use a Withey or a TRob.

One nice benefit of Agbaji’s addition – Charlie Moore 4 minutes, he of the 7.3 PER. That appears to be the squeeze. That makes us better than without Agbagi.

I get the match up thing, but David McCormack, one minute? We are really going to play Mitch Lightfoot over a McDonald’s all-American? Seriously, who will be better in March with quality minutes. The fact is if we play McCormack, he will improve AND it’s unlikely that Mitch will get worse.

Worth watching, because it might be critical to our tourney survival. It’s guarding against Dedric in foul trouble. Mitch and guards vs. McCormack and guards? Certain teams will destroy the former.

  • @HighEliteMajor I feel like if Mitch Lightfoot played for any other team, we’d all be going " How in the (*&% did we not sign this guy? ".

He reminds me of Withey. Let him play and we would see some real results. I haven’t used my google card this morning, but wasn’t ML the player of the year in Arizona? Sure, it’s not Kentucky, or North Carolina, but POY in any state has got to be a good thing.

His biggest downfall is lack of playing time.

    Absolutely. Moore has been atrocious.

I want to see much more of Dave too, as has been noted.

@drgnslayr The problem with Mitch is he is a non-factor on offense. He played 10 minutes and took 1 shot.

  • Also it goes against Self’s instincts clearly but KJ should play more. If you look at all the stats, he’s one of the best 5 players on this team.

Chuck and Dave have been disasters, but I think Dave could get a lot better with pt as he simply needs to calm down and learn to pass back out.

The stats pretty much all make sense with this team. They say Dedric is great, Doke was really good, KJ and Devon are really good, Vick is good*, Mitch and Garrett are good, Grimes and Moore are awful…

*the issue with this is Vick has been amazing and terrible, it has simply balanced out.

  • @BShark

Vick goes between great and awful on a per play basis. I’ve never seen a kid under Self make such bad decisions with the ball and then make up for it on the next possession like it was nothing. It’s all between the ears with this kid.

He’s going to be the type to either Malik Newman us to wins down the road or Andrew Wiggins us to an exit

  • @HighEliteMajor

Wow PER of 7, pretty much sums up what we see visually. Half the time I’m convinced he doesn’t even look at the hoop before shooting. His perimeter jump shot form is atrocious. If the emergence of Ochai renders him to Dotson’s rest minutes I’ll be perfectly happy with that. Charlie is just not what we need, unfortunately.

My one defense of playing Mitch is that he really is a good defender in spurts. While playing 4 guards, you don’t really need him to score.

But I agree, one offers much more upside.

  • I honestly think Self should show this team tape of that 12 team, because that who we need to turn into at this point. That team had a little better shooting but wasn’t great.

  • I’m giving credit for this victory to Self above all else. This is why he is a HOFr. And this is why we still are in the driver’s seat for another Big 12 title.

    Mitch vs Big Mac

I agree with everyone that Big Mac needs to see more minutes because he is the ultimate investment for down the stretch in the season. However… Self realizes that our conference streak is in real jeopardy here after losing Doke. That is why he took Agbaji off of red shirt. I expect to see Mitch earning more minutes than Big Mac right now because in these early Big 12 games, Mitch has more to offer in several areas. He remains a better defender, especially in weakside help. He knows the system (playbook) better. And, most important, he offers a quicker tempo post player over Big Mac.

Tempo is key for Self now that we flipped back to a 4-guard offense. We have enough players to run. We wore down TCU. Just look at the Dixon post-game interview. The tempo and wear down was a huge factor in turning them over. It is no surprise to me how effective Agbaji was in his debut. He is the most-athletic player we put on the floor and he gives us speed! He was a big factor in helping wear down TCU.

Even though we have lost some depth in the post, we still have a pretty deep team in some regards. We have a team that can push a 4-guard offense at a high tempo. Big advantage in trying to win another B12 title because I doubt anyone can match up with our depth.

Tweaking tempo now is a key for us. It should help us put some of our new guys into a positive groove.

Self was a real genius in this game and I feel like it took that to pull this victory off!

  • @HighEliteMajor He probably wanted to give Ochai a chance to play with the guys before trying to put more of a role on Dave. I am firmly confident that the reduced minutes for DM had nothing to do with pushing him even further out of the rotation. With everyone getting used to OA, it would have been a huge adjustment to add a novice big guy in the mix. ML will not shine, but he can be reliably counted on to set screens and help OA with advice on the court.

  • @mayjay oc?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Ooops! Fixed. Thx!

  • @mayjay a lot of intials there?🤔initials

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I’m having my annual winter cold. Head is really foggy. So typing is a chore, spelling is a nightmare, and initials are my cheat!

  • @mayjay get well buddy! My whole team at work seems to have head colds. We had a 2 hour meeting today and by the end nobody could remember the proper names for anything.

  • News out of TCU is that 6’11” Yual Alok is transferring. Couple other reserves too. ???

  • @Gorilla72

Interesting I thought he was hurt. Alok was beat out by Samuel anyway. Sure looked good the other night
