2020 Recruiting

  • @BeddieKU23 I think you’re probably right. Not like his door is being beaten down by blue bloods. He is a good program guy for someone. But maybe just not quite our level.

  • @Kcmatt7

Pretty much sums it up. Some of it is timing as well. I always thought KU kept track of Harvey because of JRE. Harvey will play D-1, maybe even a P5 school when its said and done.

  • I imagine that a lot of the bigger programs lost interest because in the current environment any allegation of sexual misconduct is the kiss of death. He is now ranked #29 by Rivals for 2020 and between that and 40 in the other rankings except ESPN. He is doing a prep year in California and if he gets to the top 20 there will be interest by elite programs.

  • Dante and all of Sunrise will be in for late night.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I think it was more than an allegation, was on their phones. Evidence!

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I was referring to allegations in general that now are enough to cause programs to back off from prospects even if they prove later not to be true. In this particular case we know he pleaded guilty to a lesser offense.

  • I’m surprised that the Staff isn’t pushing for Junior official visit’s with the new rule changes in place.

Duke is hosting 3 elite Junior’s over the next two weeks. Jeremy Roach, Jalen Johnson & BJ Boston.

Seems like a leg up already on the competition

  • @BeddieKU23 what is the new rule? Do they get to take another one their senior year?

  • Kcmatt7 said:

Juniors can take official visits and still take five more as Seniors. I believe the total is now 15 overall.

Duke for example has 3 Junior five star recruits coming in this month. At least two of them are considered Duke leans at this time.

Honestly, feels like a missed opportunity with the new rules. There’s plenty of prospects interested in KU, I hope we see if any want to take an early visit

  • @BeddieKU23 Then yea, you’re right. We need to start bringing in as many guys as we can then. I’m sure you’ll see some. Seems like Self may be trying to lock down these early guys first. Then he can probably focus on Hurt and 2020 guys.

  • I mean we have Zeke, JRE and Stanley all deciding by the end of November. So I’m glad he is making them the priority.

I would say that getting a bunch of Juniors in for a game like Nova would be dope. Bring in like 5 together. Definitely make it all about the hype and atmosphere this visit. And then basketball the next one.

I agree the current class is more important and you run the risk of planning too far ahead without knowing what you can sell.

Duke is a bit different from even KU in how they recruit/build their roster. Just pointing out that an elite school such as KU can definitely get younger kids on officials. Definitely could have been the case for Bryce Thompson who’s got ties to the program and visited for Late Night.

  • In a recent article on Rivals Greg Brown said KU is among the 5 schools watching his games the most along with UK, Texas, A&M and UCLA.

Did UVs to UT and A&M. Not taking recruiting too seriously yet. Focusing on improving as a player. Doesn’t plan to do any JR OVs.

I really hope KU is in this one. Along with Cade Cunningham and Julian Strawther this kid is one of my absolute favorite players in the loaded 2020 class.

If recent history continues with Baker in the 19 class Brown is basically Shaka’s right?

I know Brown has had interest in KU for a while but we seem to lose these battles to the home town school.

Would be a great addition next year, POGO STICKS central

  • KU sent out an offer to 2021 F/C Michael Foster (complete stud, top 5 talent) and 2022 Wing Colin Smith.

  • Well read where w have a 2021 pg from Evansville Indiana going to be un-ofically visiting for the game tonight. - - -Khristian Lander is 5’11 - -& 150 - -pretty dang small but he is going to visit tonight

Is ranked # 30 in the Nation right now and currently has offers from:

    Illinois – -Indiana - - - Iowa - -& Purdue - - just a little FYI - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

6’1’’. Big talent. Hard to see Indiana letting him get away but hey he has to be paying his own way for this KU visit and an exhibition no less so surely he has some interest in KU.

  • Visiting with his coach.

  • @jayballer73 We could throw him into a lineup with McBride, Charlie, and Dotson. Garrett could be our center. We’d dub em the Mighty Mites…

ya agree with you at this point. - -He is coming on an un-official , so yep it’s his dime and like you said an exhibition no less. – You would have to think cause of that - he has to have some moderate interest anyways

lmao - - we would kill opponents on the boards lol

  • That lineup would eat Dok alive. He really doens’t know how to play against smaller, quicker players.

  • @dylans maybe a problem against nova

  • @Crimsonorblue22 That’s where Silvio would be nice.

  • @dylans Mac needs some polish

  • alt text

    Lander at the game.

  • @BShark Take a gander at Lander…

  • KHRISTIAN LANDER@KHRISTIANLANDER 1H BLESSED TO RECEIVE AN OFFER FROM UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS THINK YOU TO BILL SELF AND STAFF

  • Nice. Not surprised, kid can ball.

  • Lately there’s been some concern in Adidas and their programs that Nike has used the trial to get in deeper with some guys. UK and Oregon are shaping up to have monster classes.

    Not surprised, but barf.

  • If true Nike opened the door for the FBI to drop the hammer. Surely someone slipped up along the way. That’s making the major assumption that the FBI cares about corruption across NCAA basketball and not just smearing ADIDAS.

  • Gross. And we are going to end up signing with them for 12 years.

  • Yeah hopefully Nike gets a bunch of bad pub this spring.

Wishful thinking right? They will hush it all

if I were Oregon people - -I wouldn’t be thumping that chest to hard yet. - They are FAR from being clear in this mess either

Knight says otherwise. Too big to fail, too big to even damage.

  • Apparently Lander was on campus three days. Visit went pretty well.

  • @BShark 3 days is a long time, must’ve gone well! Dotson’s replacement?

  • dylans said:

Could be. Bill gave the offer himself directly to Lander.

  • Julian Strawther will take 5 official visits during his Jr year. KU is not one of them and KU wasn’t listed as among the schools recruiting him. KU staff is all in on Ochai it seems or pursuing others

Thought the same. At this point we are not serious with him. Really good player too

  • I was definitely hoping he was a player KU made a push for. Just not in the cards unfortunately.

  • BShark said:

Agree he’s one of my favorites in the 2020 class. I don’t see any blue bloods involved which I think is odd so I wonder if the officials are just the benefit of the rules change, get some schools out the way that he may like but when he gets serious others get involved. I just can’t see a player of his caliber going through his recruitment without some bigger programs stepping in.

  • @BeddieKU23

I would think the 5 official visits he makes in his senior year are more important…unless he is planing to reclassify and come out early

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Good point. I hope we get back into his recruitment

  • RJ Hampton will be in Lawrence for the Nova game.
