Emporia State EXI

There you go, Grimes.
-
Charlie and the Lawson bros have a connection. When Charlie is in, they both need to be in as well.
-
Wow. Nice transition!

Bang!
Great to see that go in. He needs to shoot with confidence and he will be fine.
-
Why stop at Mr.?
I’m going to start calling him Dr. Lawson.

His stroke looks real, real nice. Like form-wise, nothing I see wrong.

Agree. I want him shooting it when open. He was scared to do so earlier and drove into a clogged lane instead.

Hey we broke 80.
-
Strangely, I’m no longer worried about the point guard play. Dotson and Moore have been great. But, what’s up with the front court? Except for Dedric, the front court didn’t show up.
-
@Kcmatt7 That break was started by a great pass from KJ. Those Lawsons can really pass…

IT TOOK AWHILE
-
2nd half observations: We can rebound. Dedric is still good. Grimes is still good. Dotson is a solid PG. A lot of coachable things we can improve upon.
Overall, a good 1st day imo.

Moore has shot good, but overall this game I think he has been below average as a PG. Like, entry passes and initiating the offense have not been really good for him. I’d prefer Garrett in that role even.
-
Agbaji looks good to me.
-
@stoptheflop KJ and Garrett can play the 4. Agreed, Doke and Mccormack were not good, and Vick shouldnt have ever played the 4 in the first place, but did not look good at the 3.

Ochai can shoot it a bit

I jumped the gun on my observations. Ochai looks like he could be a dude. I hope he redshirts.
-
Agbaji!
-
We sure we want Agbaji to redshirt?

No that dude a talent
-
Alright so the only thing I was really disappointed in tonight was Doke. He looked bad. He needs to be better.
The turnovers and the slow 2nd-half are typical things with young/new teams.

So talkative tonight.
Also, I only had like 3 upvotes. So clearly a warmup game for you as well
-

Yes, actually. He can shoot and is athletic but he looked lost in other regards. If he isn’t going to get many minutes this year and is willing, the year off just studying the game could really help him improve.
-
@Kcmatt7 lol, don’t be greedy.
-
31 points (11-16) and 15 boards for Dr. Lawson. What a beast.
-
What’s the score?
-
@wissox 93-55 final.

- If spacing is better, I think he has more outlets to pass out of a double-team.
- He won’t be double teamed as much.
I wouldn’t be worried yet. He did look rough tonight though. I do think he may end up getting a degree here though… I don’t think the NBA would touch him still.
-
@approxinfinity That was my thought. That kid is miraculous from 3.
-
@Red.Rooster The rooster!!! Welcome back, buddy…
-
I’m digging the pre-game and post-game from ESPN+.
-
@wissox Lawson 31 points…15 rebounds…
-
These kids staring at the camera are cracking me up.
-
Also, Doke will do better when we aren’t running up and down the court like this. And you can bet that we won’t be able to do that all season long. Add in that we basically didn’t run an offense tonight.
Doke is not an NBA guy (yet). He is not meant for an out of structure type of play (yet).

@KirkIsMyHinrich It was pretty good. I liked that Bahe color guy. I wish they would spend a few bucks, and lose the headsets for gueldner and his partner.

Said it earlier in the thread and the bar is low, but Bahe is probably the best color guy we have had for these JTV games.

Is there a box score anywhere? @BShark You were logging stats, right?
-
The way garrett plays, he’ll get a lot of minutes. He is just nails in every way except the 3 pointer. His drive to the basket was a work of art.
-
Gonna be weird having a low post Wooden Winner after a Guard Winner and a Guard Runner Up.
-
I really like the ESU coach. His interview has been fantastic!
-
Craig Doty. A name to keep in the back of your mind. Charismatic 33 year old. I’ll try to remind myself to keep up with ESU this year.
-
-
@Kcmatt7 I like him too. I thought he had a good game-plan doubling the post and the defensive rotations were good. They made some tough shots. They were just out-classed in terms of personnel. I agree, good coach.

They played with the future national champions for most of the 2nd half. No shame in how they played tonight.
-
Craig Doty’s a well-spoken coach. I’m interested to see how his team does this year.
-
Really like this Emporia State coach’s interview. He’s smooth, optimistic, complimentary with specific details. Sharp.
