Cremo picks Villanova

  • That sucks…

  • That’s what you get when you win Championship’s

  • Another swing and a miss

  • @BeddieKU23 Correct … and when you’re named in an indictment related to your players getting paid.

  • @HighEliteMajor unless you’re Sean Miller

  • @chriz You made me look … where’s Zona?

    http://insider.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/classrankings

    http://www.espn.com/college-football/recruiting/story/_/id/23416305/espn-100-point-guard-brandon-williams-recommits-arizona-wildcats

And despite the recommitment (second link), the other two decommits did not come back. The article references, though, that Miller has landed some other players, which goes to your point. But not those top guys.

“Arizona lost all three of its early commits following the FBI investigation, including Jahvon Quinerly and Shareef O’Neal, with Williams the only one recommitting to the Wildcats. Since the season ended, though, Miller has gone out and landed ESPN 100 guard Devonaire Doutrive and Belgian forward Omar Thielemans in the 2018 class. He also picked up graduate transfers Justin Coleman (Samford) and Ryan Luther (Pittsburgh), both of whom will be eligible immediately.”

  • @HighEliteMajor

Definitely its hurting us in the short term. We’ll see whether 2019 is impacted with Self coaching with USA ball.

  • It’s only my opinion, but nobody has backed out and I, 100% believe Romeo where aren’t KU was never happening. Maybe nova has more openings and Self couldn’t promise time.

  • Either way you look at it, still a great class from Bill. But strange that the Miller Bros are still raking it in.

  • I hate nova more

  • @Crimsonorblue22 So you don’t think this FBI thing effects kids’ and families’ decisions? Or just on these two (Romeo/Cremo)? I think big picture-wise it is a huge x-factor. Close call, KU and a school not named? I know what I’d tell my kid.

@chriz I don’t think Sean Miller is raking it in. He lost two of this top three guys, he had to go a different route. Maybe I’m off base but it seems that it did impact AZ pretty substantially.

    @Fightsongwriter Don’t hate … replicate.

And as an observation, Joe Cremo’s parents missed the boat not naming their kid Romeo – Romeo Cremo has a sweet ring to it.

  • Mystery recruit time!

    Mystery recruit time!

    Life’s great mystery

  • I must have missed it. Where did Cremo say the KU investigation was part of his decision to attend Villanova?

  • @Gorilla72 He didn’t. Romeo’s dad did.

  • a few hawk media following Brock Stull, a transfer from Milwaukee. Averaged 13 pts per game last yr

  • @BeddieKU23 Pass.

  • BShark said:

    @BeddieKU23 Pass.

We might be kicking the tires on Matt Mooney?

  • See here we go . - -it’s like WELP missed that guy BUT yet-- oh , oh, wait how about THIS guy. - This crap is insane , another person I read on taking about how the recruit pool shriveling up. - AGAIN it’s coming across like sounding like we jut looking for a warm body -that is just nuts.

We ARE NOT DESPERATE - -come on man , I mean we miss Romeo , - well then ok I finally say well I guess if people think Cremo can really help - ya ok maybe then - -decent numbers decent shooter - -NOW we miss on him and it’s like next man up. - -no it shouldn’t be next man up.

Some people almost act like the sky is going to fall if we don’t use this 13th scholarship - to me that’s just whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Hell give me the scholarship , people act like we going straight to hell if we don’t use it. - - Again if you can’t find some one that truly can really benefit you then HOLD IT and please don’t come back with the same line well Coach Self doesn’t like to hold . - If that’s truly the case then it’s time Coach Bill change his approach on that just like he has learned to adapt to the 4 out and 1 in - -times change - -things change - - circumstances change

We hve missed on players we were after now - -we have had a very good recruiting year - we don’t get the last body - - -OH WELL move on to the 2019 class and be done with it - -we are going to be fine - -sure we might struggle some from the outside but no one can say 100% beyond a shadow of doubt that’s going to be the case. - -I just think there are some that’s putting way to much in to this 13th scholarship being used

  • @jayballer73 is your knee healed?

  • @jayballer73

Technically we will have 2 scholarships if Doke doesn’t return. We have another player in limbo (Silvio). See where I’m going with this?

Of course Doke could return and Silvio eligible, that would alleviate any concern or put to rest any needed roster additions.

My main point is the roster is still in flux. Cremo would have been a nice fit. I think it would be nice to have a veteran guard on the team that can push the young guys. Self said they are after another player so I can see why he’s kicking the tires on some kids. I don’t think we will have closure to this situation until June/July.

This seems like the new normal unfortunately. We strike out and keep swinging…

  • What a surprise! Players don’t want to sign with a program under a cloud of investigation.

Hey, do you think it could get worse, if something sticks and we get vacated seasons and no bid to the Carney for a few years?

    Cui bono?

Still in a Brace -been 8 weeks , but they say it may be something that I just have to wear all the time. - -Doctor told me they found most of the damage behind my knee cap - the cap still having a tendency to float - - so they having me wear the brace to help stabilize , have my days you know, thanks for asking. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23 I certainly understand where your coming from for sure. - -My biggest problem I think is that people throwing out names mostly for the two spot - - I understand yes we could use the two a outside shooter for sure but it’s gotten to the point with that spot our 2 - that it sure seems at this point that some are just suggesting anybody for a 2 we lost on Romeo - -we lost Cremo . - -Yes quite possibly our 3pt shooting will fall from previous years , but in these recent previous years we have been towards the top of the nation in 3 pt fg pct - - so ya we will tail off , but I feel that it’s not as bad as some try and make it out to be. As to where we need to get just about anyone who can shoot from time to time decently from there just to say we filled the outside need. - That’s the point it’s getting to - there are a lot of other factors that goes into the player then just hitting the outside J. - If he can’t play defense worth a crap - -what good is he - - if he is a below average ball handler is it worth the scholarship? - everything he is giving us on the offensive end - he is giving back on the defensive end.

Understand the concern about IF Doke and Silvio do not return - -in Reality I think Doke comes back - -Silvio - -not so much dang it – I could possibly see us maybe like you say trying to possibly get another Big because of that -I think it’s going to work okay- - but if we do go Big - just not Bassey from everything I’ve heard right?

  • @jayballer73

    Good luck, my friend.

I hope you heal up well!

  • @jaybate-1.0 Dook just signed their 5th five star player, plenty of east coast teams mentioned in this investigation getting talent.

Thank you just taking a little longer. Some days I think it’s progressing then others ehhh not so much. Yet I’m not special it’s the same for everybody it just takes time to heal. My problem is I always want to rush the process , and consequently fully believe that’s what happen for the 2nd surgery when I re-tore both the LCL & MCL - -just got to learn to be more patient lol. - not one of my stronger traits. - certainly appreciate your thoughts thanks a lot. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I am not going to master the obvious here.

I will just ask: if the investigation is NOT a deterrent to Nike leans signing with Nike programs with clouds hanging over them, but it is a deterrent to adidas leans signing with adidas programs with clouds hanging over them, what does that tell you?

I haven’t been paying attention as much but are there a lot of names out there being thrown around? I mentioned a few of bigger named graduate transfers left but so far I haven’t seen any news regarding KU interest. Guys like Brock Stull and Matt Mooney are going to end up on good teams, Texas Tech wants Mooney and had him on an official visit. Stull has interest from Minnesota and NC St among others. I do get your point though, point taken. It’s May and this is what we get for losing guys to the NBA and not having the ability to be Kentucky and wave a magic wand at recruits. The FBI thing is killing us currently

For me I’m concerned about more then just finding a shooter. Cremo would have been a nice fit and goes to Villanova. The interest in him alone makes it seem Self is after a veteran guard to mix in with his very young team. He knows what he lacks at this point.

I think Doke is staying in the draft but if he doesn’t that will change my outlook a good deal. This whole Silvio thing just sucks. I can only hope KU is in a position to make a good informed decision regarding his status by the fall. We need him, badly.

Self always finds a way, in Self we trust I suppose

  • @BeddieKU23

The various FBI indictments named Louisville, Miami, Kansas, UNC State and Arizona as the programs tied to a shoe company, all Adidas programs. If I recall correctly, Arizona, USC (Nike) and Auburn (Under Armour) assistants were tied to receiving payments from agents rather than shoe companies.

Interesting that Miami appears to have been removed from the latest indictment and Arizona appears to have gone dormant as well and the only programs left, some categorized as “victims” are all Adidas and furthermore, the programs that have really been hurt by the indictment are Louisville, UNC State which lost a freshman prospect and Yurtseven transferred out and apparently KU who may or may not have lost Langford due to the FBI investigation. Arizona was hurt but it was not related to association with a shoe company.

So far, it looks like mostly Adidas programs being hurt and it is hard to believe that in a world where money flows freely, Nike and Under Armour were not doing the same thing. Either they are much better at not getting caught or have friends in high places that are protecting them…probably a combination…unless future indictments will concentrate on those companies which at this time seems unlikely.

  • @JayHawkFanToo It’s like indicting Merck, when Celgene, Pfizer, and Eli Lilly are doing the same thing. Sometimes prosecutions are done because the strongest evidence lies with one defendant, and it can send a message to the others. That could be the case. Some info fell into their laps, and more developed. I doubt it. This smacks of a prosecution done for headlines – which it has received. And most likely a targeted and focused investigation.

    Arizona is Nike, right?

@kjayhawks This investigation taints the programs whose names are associated with the criminal charges. The other big boys aren’t there.

Remember the article from February? “Dozens of major programs”? Dozens means at least more than one dozen. Where are they since that time?

    https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/report-dozens-of-major-programs-could-be-subject-to-ncaa-scrutiny-in-fbi-probe/

  • @HighEliteMajor

Yes, Arizona is Nike but I don’t believe Nike was involved, only agents wanting future representation. If they indeed have recordings of Miller as it was initially implied one would think Arizona would have been the first one at bat and Miller would have been fired and yet, neither happened. There seems to be a lot more than meets the eye and the ultimate target would appear to be KU and/or Self now that Pitino is gone.

  • @JayHawkFanToo The FBI is currently investigating the EYBL circuit. Nike schools are going to get theirs as well.

  • Nike money says thanks for trying

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

…and yet we have not herd a peep about it. Interesting that Under Armour apparently gave money originally to Silvio’s guardian so he would go to Maryland and Adidas (German corp.) allegedly stepped in with money to repay Under Armour and yet nothing on Under Armour (US corp.) or Nike (US corp.). Maybe a pattern?

By the way, the EYBL pertain to the Summer/AAU circuit and does not directly involve colleges and any wrongdoing found would not be tied to college programs. So far, the investigation has centered on primarily Adidas and college basketball programs which would appear to indicate a focused investigation with a selected target or targets in mind.

  • @JayHawkFanToo The FBI is not investigating specific schools. They started their investigation of the Adidas AAU circuit last summer, announced their findings in August shortly after the AAU season was done.

They were looking for connections between agents/runners and coaches/players. They have never announced anything about a specific school paying players. They have found agents financially influencing players to certain schools and coaches taking money to influence players as well.

This upcoming summer is when they will get to the meat of their EYBL investigation and we will likely here more in August/September about what kind of stuff is going on within the Nike ranks.

Also, Adidas didn’t pay Under Armour for DeSousa, they outbid Under Armour for him. That’s why he flipped, not because Adidas paid UA off.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

It sure feels like they have some programs, including KU, on their crosshairs. Apparently it costed KU Langford and maybe more prospects in the future. I bet behind close doors KU, Miami, UNC State and Louisville definitely feel targeted.

Also, Adidas didn’t pay Under Armour for DeSousa, they outbid Under Armour for him. That’s why he flipped, not because Adidas paid UA off.

This is not what was reported. UA allegedly paid Silvio’s guardian to have Silvio commit to Maryland; however Silvio wanted to come to KU and Adidas gave the money to Silvio’s guardian so he could return the money to UA since Silvio did not commit to Maryland.

If the FBI has not found anything on the EYBL or with Nike by now chances are all the evidence is gone and nothing will be found.

  • @BeddieKU23 yah. dammit
