2019 Recruiting

@BeddieKU23 Should have stayed at Wisconsin. Would have been a star there.

Haggans is really good but he can’t shoot worth a beans. I still don’t see Kentucky being great unless Vanderbilt and Washington return.

  • @BShark You would think that would have to be a big bonus for him on top of any others that might be there just like your friend and mind at Kentucky had lol

  • Just looking at the projected depth chart for the 2019 season:

    • PG: Dotson - Jacobs - moore
    • SG: Grimes/Top Recruit SG - Agbaji
    • SF - Garrett - KJ
    • PF - KJ - Hurt - JRE - Mitch
    • C - De Sousa - Big Dave

I actually think that works PT wise as long as Hurt is ok getting his 25 minutes coming off of the bench. I am worried about the Lawson clan getting pissed if KJ doesn’t start. Of course, that could all be solved if SDS is leaving early. I would love to know who the staff thinks is here after next season.

It looks like we could have big man “good problems to have” next year as well. I think we get an impact wing and impact guard. NBA scouts seem to love Grimes. I think he impresses enough to go

  • As of now I’d say Grimes is the only guard likely to leave. Langford if he ends up here as well of course.

  • @BeddieKU23 Anyone remember that last year around this time we thought we might have problems dividing time among all our bigs? Dwight, the Stache, Dok, Mitch, Billy…let’s just hope the sensation of deja vu stops here!

Just my thoughts on this: - -I think Silvo is in for three years - -we are going to see a difference of night and day from this past year to this coming year for sure with him , I think your going to see him a lot more fluid loose - -better rim protector - better scorer, this past year he was still learning the system. When I seen them off on their way to San Antonio he walked past and this kid is a man - chiseled but I just think he will still be her tone his game for two more years yet.

Quentin is only going to be her for the year -absolute stud - -man some of his passing skills is crazy, and from the way they were talking Sunday the NBA People love him - decent shot from the outside - pure baller - Truly feel he is for sure a OAD

I think KJ would start over Garrett - -with Garrett continuing to play sufficient role in the back court but yet not start - unless he gets his shot to start to drop a lot more - lock down defender which is always a good spot to be in with Coach.

Have talked with some others and they seem to agree. I think the sleeper in this group and I think in the end we may have stole one here is Agbaji - I think this kid is going to surprise some people - his stock is just started to jump off the charts - really starting to come into his own. - I think the KU fans are going to really be surprised and really like this kid when it’s all said and done

I pretty much agree with all of this. Good thing is that Big Dave came in with a fantastic mindset, and I think that is huge as far as keeping everyone happy.

I do think it will be hard to recruit a wing prospect with Junior Garrett here. I really think he might be an AA candidate that year. But if Garrett has a disappointing Sophomore year, I definitely could see it.

    Good problems to have.

  • @jayballer73 Garrett might start next year, let alone two years from now.

  • @BShark Guess we will see - -but whoever starts sure glad it’s a situation for us to be in - with depth unlike this year when we were struggling to have enough players and having to worry about injuries/fouls and such. – -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Just curious - how many here think that we are still seriously looking that strongly at Chandler Lawson? I myself think we have backed off. - -Maybe a combination of things - -with Penny now being at Memphis plus on top of that is Chandler really that much of an necessity now? - Would he fit? with what we will have I think he would be on of the guys that would really have to battle for playing time - What ya think? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Heard he was done deal to Memphis

  • Fine with me honestly. Lawson’s scare me. Dedric was worth the risk as a proven commodity. But I’ve been waiting for it to blow up in our faces since they got here.

  • I don’t see Garrett starting unless he can really improve his outside shooting stroke. It’s difficult to build lineups around a wing guy that can’t shoot.

  • @justanotherfan what percentage do you think he needs to get to? I really don’t think he is that far away from being a competent shooter. I felt the majority of his problem was he wanted to defer to the other guys on the court so when he was so wide open that he HAD to shoot it he was nervous or uncomfortable or out of rhythm.

If he made 4 more threes this year he would have shot .355. I would be fine with that. As long as his 2pt% stayed up around .550 as well.

  • @Kcmatt7

He needs to be at about 33%. The problem with Garrett is that the eye test suggests he’s a poor shooter. When he missed, he often missed badly. It suggests that he needs quite a bit of work to get where he needs to be to be effective. Add to that the fact that Garrett was often left completely open from three and still shot poorly. That means he was getting A+ looks and still couldn’t crack even 30%. He’s further away than just having 3 or 4 shots that missed go in.

  • @justanotherfan “The problem with Garrett is that the eye test suggests he’s a poor shooter.”

I was hoping that perhaps an eye test would explain why some of those shots were so so bad. Like Charlie Sheen in Major League !

  • Reading rumors about Carey reclassifying to 2018. Somehow Duke pulled the same shit with Bagley last summer.

He’s not going to. He’s young for his class (born in 01) so reclassifying won’t get him to the NBA sooner. He’s not eligible for the draft until 2020.

  • Couple nuggets from another place (Indiana).

On the Rome Langford front, a piece of chatter. This is just chatter so please keep it in that category. After the Jordan Brand game, Darius Garland told a friend of mine he’s not nearly as confident in Langford joining him at Vandy as he was a couple months ago.

    • Expect IU to have an in-home visit with five-star 2019 forward Matthew Hurt during this upcoming recruiting period

  • @BeddieKU23 This makes sense. I think the allure of the “superclass” at Vandy is fading. Vandy is going to be a lot better but not in the same zip code as Florida and UK. Even Auburn if Wiley comes back. All the recent buzz has been KU vs. IU.

KU legit has better options in 2019 than Chandler Lawson. If he wants to come here, that’s fine but I think he ends up in Memphis.

Ah. Yeah no way he wants to spend 2 years in college.

  • @BeddieKU23 I wouldn’t doubt that - I don’t think I’ll lose any sleep on it. - -ROCKCHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

    Welcome to the board!

  • Sounds like KU is kicking the tires on top 5 big man Charles Bassey. I’m sure they’re treading carefully.

As weird as it is, isn’t he pretty much a WKU lock?

  • @ReggieKansas Welcome! I wish there was better news today.

Not a lock by any stretch. Programs are just doing their due diligence on him since there are possible red flags with his amateurism. Folks tend to steer clear of Rick Stansbury in recruiting.

  • Red Flags, amateurism, Rick Stansbury. Boy I hope we kick our tires somewhere else.

    Agree. Go after clean(er) targets.

  • @BShark

I went to check out the ole Marylannder board for giggles. Surprisingly not as salty as I remember them over other situations involving KU. The headline was juicy.

Surprisingly they seemed more pissed they couldn’t cheat better to get Silvio. Or pissed UA couldn’t pony up more dough

  • @BeddieKU23 Was damn funny!

  • Well I know that Ochai Agbaji is signing his LOI tonight so looks like he is sticking around. Has anyone heard anything from the other three’s camps about when they are signing their LOI - or if they might be possibly be re-considering? - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

All will be fine. These kids mostly committed when KU’s name was being slung around in the initial reports. Have no reason to believe they are not solid for KU still.

  • @BShark Thanks , I sure hope not - you know Coach Self hasn’t been named in any of this & the University it’self hasn’t yet either - So I agree you wouldn’t think it would have any influence - but with 18 yr olds - you just never now, or they have some antsy pants mama that is always paranoid - hoping for the best.- I mean I think that the Romeo battle is over now, I think this thing is JUST ENOUGH to push him away but if we can stay solid with the rest - -we will be fine. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LON GBABY

The other 3 signed in the fall

  • @BeddieKU23 True but KU would let them out of the LOI if they wanted to. No reason to believe they do though.

  • @BeddieKU23 Oh they did? - see that’s another thing about getting old - my memory isn’t the best - I couldn’t remember if they actually signed or just verbaled

  • Some Nike Summit Measurements from KU prospects/signee’s

    World Team-

    N’Faly Dante 6’11, 9’ 2.5 Standing Reach, 7’5 Wingspan

    Josh Green 6’5.5, 8’ 7 Standing Reach, 6’10 Wingspan

Both of these guys won’t be in College long if at all.

Haven’t seen the USA team measures out yet

  • Add Charles Bassey to that list as well. He’s rumored to be reclassifying to 2018. KU will be involved if Doke goes pro. 6’11 235 with a 7’3 wingspan. Terrific prospect.

Looks like he got some more WKU cb picks rolling in. I hope Doke stays, as good as Bassey is.

He can be swayed if there’s a starting spot available in not CUSA. Also assuming he gets cleared.

  • 2019 post player Francis Okoro will be taking some standardized tests. If he gets the needed scores he will reclass and join Illinois for the 18 class.

    Lol. They do need anything

If they add Okoro they will have as many commits in this class as KU played in the regular rotation last season.

Arizona out here taking unranked kids.

  • Should be a 4* based on talent though.
