2019 Recruiting

  • Bryce is looking good this far out… Good thing we have some advantages with this one already

  • @BeddieKU23 If the staff swings for a commitment it’s really hard to see it not happening.

  • @BShark

Looks like a very good shooter. Hope he continues to grow a little and settle into a position

  • Should be a 2G/CG. Doubt he grows enough to be a wing.

Perfectly okay with that, would just like to see him more in the 6’4ish area as he doesn’t look like a standout athletic type at the moment

  • You are right about that. Harvey isn’t either. I wrote about this in another thread but it’s hard to find guys that are elite athletes and elite shooters. Those tend to be OAD players.

I’m fine with adding kids like Thompson and Harvey, just need some athletes too. This year’s KU team was an odd beast because of a lack of any kind of depth up front while starting 3 guys that aren’t great athletes at the P5 level.

  • Any 4 year program players that’ll win KU a championship on the line? McCormack and Agbaji possibly?

I would expect both are here four years atm

  • @BShark

True. I’m just hoping he gets a bit bigger to compensate a bit and with him being 2 years out there’s a good chance he isn’t done. I’ll take his shooting ability any-day and twice on Sunday.

Harvey has looked more fluid this year from video but its hard to tell. Anything to shed on that?

  • Got a question. - The signing period is April 11th through May 16th - but seems like they can still commit actually anytime throughout the summer can’t they - -thinking that’s right cause wew have had transfers announce they were coming after these dates right.?

That is correct. And if they don’t sign within the period, they will then just sign what is called a “Grant-in-aid.” I don’t know why any player signs an actual LOI instead of this thing. If a player signs this instead, they don’t need to schools permission to be released.

  • @Kcmatt7 Thank you for your help. - -I was thinking that was the way it was. I agree with you I wouldn’t know why everyone just doesn’t go this way either. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAYLONG BABY

  • Jalen Wilson starting to get attention from Roy… Say’s he’s 6’8 now and could be 6’9 before going to College. Wow has that kid grown. Hope he’s a big target for KU especially given his Adidas affiliation

  • @BeddieKU23 And his friendship with RJ Hampton.

  • 2019 will be interesting. We should find out a lot more about top targets (beyond Hurt and JRE) after summer ball.

  • Green, Harvey, Wilson, Achiuwa…

  • @BeddieKU23 I want Vernon Carey lololol. Hopefully Self makes a strong impression at team USA U18.

But yeah in addition to Hurt and JRE this is a pretty great list. Hurt/JRE to replace Dedric and Doke… Harvey to slot in for Vick or Langford. Jacobs takes the spot likely vacated by Grimes. Mush Cunliffe for a wing…

Carey’s a big name and he’s good, really good but give me JRE, Hurt & Achiuwa and we can trot out a better lineup made for the modern game right? We have Dave and Silvio who figure to be around as well. Hurt has so much Keith Van Horn/Sam Dekker in him that he’s tailor made for today’s game. JRE is really looking like Ellis 2.0 and Achiuwa is a monster we have never had.

  • @BeddieKU23 Yeah I figure in this scenario Silvio goes pro but Silvio in his third year would be pretty good.

Completely agree on Hurt. I hope he doesn’t waste his one year at Minnesota. 😕

  • Tevian Jones to Illinois. Not a flashy class for Underwood but I think a good one now overall.

He needs an awful lot to save that job. They are going to be horrible next year.

Good pick up though, Jones was definitely was one of the best remaining

Will be committing to Nova soon. This is what we were talking about with Nova. Taking a top 100-ish 6’6’’ center early. I’m sure he will redshirt and be a PITA as a JR/SR.

  • @BShark

6’6” Center? Too bad Clay will not be at KU to play him when Nova comes to AFH in December. 😃

What’s right his 6’6 250 or 6’7 215? Did he eat a small toddler one day?

  • @BeddieKU23 Not sure. He looks round. I’m sure Nova will get him in better shape before he ever plays. Rivals lists at 250 pounds as well.

  • Self meeting with Hurt tomorrow.

  • Hurt’s 247 picture always cracks me up. Looks like such a goober in it haha.

    Duke’s in today…

  • Also want to add I love the constant contact KU is keeping with Hurt. Not a prospect we want going somewhere else

  • @BeddieKU23 Well I hope we are showing them film of Perry and how we used him on the perimeter and inside. Because Duke and Kentucky both have proof they will let their 4 man shoot it. Perry was the first 4 that Bill ever let take 3s.

If we do miss, at least we are in on a lot of bigs for 2019.

  • @Kcmatt7 The twins had the green light also.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. This has a Dotson/Grimes feel to it where the staff is putting a lot of early work in before AAU stuff pops up. I always felt the relationship KU built with those two early helped when things got tight late. Also it helps that Hurt seems to have reciprocated interest in KU and if all goes according to plan there’s a likely-hood that the staff can sell him a starting spot in an offense he would flourish in.

  • @BeddieKU23 Well I feel like we are about to start recruiting at a level we have never seen Bill recruit after the FBI probe. Clearly had players bought away from us these last few years. Add in USA basketball, and it is realistic to think the 2019 class will be an absolute monster one.

What a coup would it be to land JRE, Hurt and Carey?

One of those is already in, just hasn’t formally announced.

I’m very interested to see who’s on that USA squad he’s coaching. It should be a nice advantage for once

  • @BeddieKU23 yep. I think JRE pops officially next fall.

Top top top top target. The evidence is clear.

  • Some 19 updates reading other boards, well the Duke Board. Usually we are locked in battles with them but we don’t seem to be crossing paths so far with too many outside of Hurt/Carey.

Joe Girard apparently is all Duke. Girard? He broke the New York state scoring record and he’s only a Junior. I’ve seen him play, they played a team that lives about 15 minutes from me. Non-athletic white kid ranked in the 100’s. He can really shoot it from anywhere often doing his best Trae Young impersonation from 35 feet. Has a lot of big-time offers, Michigan, Cuse, Notre Dame, etc. Helicopter dad and a cocky kid from all those that talk about him.

Bryan Antoine- #7 ranked player apparently is just biding his time. Sounds like he gave the staff a silent commitment at this point.

Isaiah Stewart- #25, bruiser inside. Sounds like he’s Duke’s as well.

  • @BeddieKU23 The sexting stuff with teenagers is unreal.

  • @Hawk8086 the fact they get in trouble for it to this degree is what blows my mind.

  • @BeddieKU23 Girard LOOKS like a Dukie. I nearly threw up looking at his profile pic.

Duke lately has been trending ahead of UK but they thought Knox was a lock too. Cal hasn’t given up on Antoine so I won’t count him out yet.

  • @BShark

Girard looks like a shorter JJ Redick. Nice 4 year player, but limited in what he will be able to do in college because he’s not that big, and his game dictates that he needs to play off the ball to be the most successful, kind of like Jeff Boschee.

Boschee’s career really took off playing with Aaron Miles and Kirk Hinrich because he could get his catch and shoot game going. Playing on ball, Boschee couldn’t catch and shoot, so he wasn’t as dangerous. His senior year, with both Miles and Hinrich, he shot 46% from three while taking over 6 threes a game.

Girard needs to be paired with a good PG, otherwise he’s going to disappoint from playing out of position.

  • Heard today the Hurts are really looking at PG situations for a school and definitely not set on being OAD. They really want the second pro contract.

  • FarmerJayhawk said:

Well this seems excellent for KU.

  • @BShark I’m sticking to my guns that we’re getting Hurt and JRE in 19. Dante also a possibility if he wants to reclassify.

  • @FarmerJayhawk That would be nasty. Hurt is definitely the top priority, they have visited him more as a JR than any recruit I can remember.

The PG thing just seems like a huge plus because SO Dotson is going to be very good. Also if he really is a two year player he would easily be my top want in 2019.

  • @BShark I agree. I think Grimes is going to be around for that year as well. Definitely not sold on him being a OAD. Hurt with 2 years of Hudy will be a NPOY candidate.

  • One day I must apologize to Hurt for not wanting him in this class. I think I did say that once. But man his junior film looks really good and with the game the way it is there is no player other then Achiuwa tailor made more for this team
