The Overrated ACC

  • soooo…how’s everyone’s brackets 😬

  • @Blown I’m tied for second to last place ahead of someone who didn’t finish filling out the bracket in the bucket challenge.

  • @Blown I fill out the brackets according to what I want to happen instead of what I guess could happen. I will tell you this - as long as it has Kansas active in the bracket, then it is a perfect bracket in my books.

  • Time for KU to win the ACC championship

  • The ACC didn’t end up that bad for today with Clemson, Florida State and Syracuse all pulling out close wins.

  • Yeah but they’re all gone next Round except Syracuse simply because they’re playing Duke. I mean when you’re beating up on midmajor garbage like the Big East… Suuuuure your poop don’t stink.

  • @DanR

You are a notch up on me. I refuse to do brackets because I know I will sit on the bottom every time.

It’s nice just standing in the background, criticizing everyone else’s picks… lol

  • ACC looks bad only because the teams we thought would do well (UNC, UVA) didn’t, but the teams we didn’t expect (Florida State, Syracuse) did well in their place.

I think most would have guessed the ACC would have 3 or 4 teams in the Sweet 16, but most would have had UNC, UVA and Duke.

If KU had lost over the weekend, but TCU had won, for example, people would be knocking the Big 12, but the truth would be that WVU and Texas Tech played to their seed, KU underperformed, KSU got a good break and TCU overperformed (in this example, anyway). That’s where the ACC is. Yeah, UNC and UVA wet the bed, but Florida State and Syracuse stepped up.

  • Self (at Kansas) is 12-2 all-time against current ACC teams. I like our odds for a weekend sweep. And I hope the media keeps proclaiming the ACC the ‘best of the best’, so when we beat them they can’t whine ‘over-rated’.

  • YA over rated - -heard a stat out of all the major prorams power 5 whatever that there was only one conference champion still in the tourney. - -Anyone wanna guess who that is lol

  • It’s hard to back up a blow out win with another strong performance. Let’s hope Clemson follows what most teams do…

  • @approxinfinity

ACC and overrated kind of go together.

  • @CRH107

    There appear two ACCs.

One includes Duke and UNC. When we play this ACC, we are also playing the refs.

The other ACC includes the rest and we usually play them without the refs.

That’s why Maryland left the ACC.

  • @jaybate-1.0 I’m no fan of the ACC, but I’m not sure how you are defining overrated and compared to what? Since 2000, 7 national titles and 2 runner-ups. 3 different teams from the conference have won a NC during that time; 5 different teams have made final fours.

Overrated just this year? Maybe, but as of now, the ACC has as many teams in the Sweet 16 and does the B12 and Duke is one of the two favorites to cut down the nets. If the ACC bombs in the next round (they will get at least one to the E8), then perhaps the overrated chants can begin…

  • @DCHawker well I guess when constructing a narrative, this is the point where I belittle your attempt to identify an objective reality, possibly take a personal attack which may or may not be true, but sounds plausible, and then repeat my narrative…

CROOKED @DCHawker, hawking from DC, of course he thinks the ACC is great! DRAIN THE SWAMP! The ACC is as overrated AS IT GETS!

  • @approxinfinity Those fact things really screw stuff up, don’t they?

  • Ok, back to reality…

@DCHawker as @jaybate-1-0 aptly noted, there are 2 ACCs, UNC and Duke, and the rest of the conference… Since 2000, Duke and UNC have accounted for 6 of the national titles and 1 of the runner ups.

So the rest of the conference, 1 title, 1 runner up, which was MD in 2002 (winner) and Georgia Tech runner up in 2004.

That means that since 2005, excluding Duke and UNC, nada in both departments for the conference.

And this is conference that added Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame and Louisville in 2013-2014.

Every year the last 3 years, Duke has had 2 kids on the McDonalds All American roster… 2017, 2016, 2015.

Duke = artificially inflated. Rest of conference = overrated.

  • @approxinfinity Kinda like the B12 is 2 conferences - KU and then everyone else??? 😉 Again, I don’t like the ACC and a don’t want to defend them - just think stone throwing at other conferences would be more justified if the B12/B8 had one more than one NC in the past 30 years and someone other than KU had won one in the past 70+…

  • @DCHawker if the world were still based upon facts, you might have a point.

But in this new reality, feelings are all that matter. And I sure as heck feel that the ACC is overrated!

  • @DCHawker

2 championships in the last 30 years; did you forget KU won in 2008 AND also in 1988?

  • Was thinking the same thing, but I think the point was since that one in 1988 in the last 29 years.

  • @approxinfinity

How about the one in 2018? You know KU likes years ending in 8. 😄

  • We can roll out whatever facts we want to suit whatever argument we want, right? This time scope, that time scope, this accolade, that accolade, this win that win, this loss that loss, this player that player, this recruit that recruit, this nba future, that nba future.

In the end, its all just cannon fodder for our feelings isnt it?

And if you fancy yourself a moderate guy (I’ve historically liked to think I’m a moderate guy, it seems like you do too @DCHawker), you like to think that the facts can define our emotions.

And you’re absolutely right. We can define reality and control our emotions, but most people do not choose to do this. Most people believe that emotions are something that have their way with us, and yet are part of our essential nature, and so we have to respect our emotions, and listen to our emotions, be “in touch” with them.

And so, I encourage you to ride this wave of emotional irrationality and help me birth into the world the idea that the ACC Is Overrated and let it grow grow grow!

Because if that’s how recruits feel, and that’s how fans of basketball feel, then that’s how ignorant talking heads feel, then that’s how corporate America feels, and thats how talent runs away from the ACC, and that’s how the Big 12 profits.

    OVERRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAATED… OVERRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAATED…

  • @approxinfinity

4 Big 12 Teams in the Elite 8 and only 1 ACC team would be a good start and KU beating Duke to advance to the Final Four even better.

  • @approxinfinity You are channeling a cheesy song from the '70s by some one hit wonder by the name of Morris Albert - Feelings, nothing more than feelings…" 😉

  • The big, bad ACC…

  • Agreed that mocking the ACC would be a lot easier if the Big 12 had even one other program in the conference that was as consistently strong as Duke or UNC. Or if the Big 12 had a budding program like Virginia (I know they lost to a 16, but check their record over the last 5 years - every non-KU Big 12 squad would trade for that in a heartbeat). Until someone else steps forward on the national stage, it’s really hard to mock another conference.

  • @justanotherfan We can still mock to the Pac 12, less Final Four’s than the Big 12 and it’s been over 20 years since Arizona won their last title in 1997.

The Pac 12 also hasn’t sent a school to the Final Four in 10 years when UCLA made it in 2008.

  • I’ve thought long and hard about it, and I’m simply going to have to root for Silo Tech over Tucky. I haven’t rooted for Silo Tech since Lon Kruger was their point guard, and Jack Hartman was their coach.

  • @KUSTEVE Cheering for the lesser of two evils here too.

  • I will root for KSU until they make the FF if they make the FF. Once they have helped the B12, screw em. Ever since the marching band fiasco, I’ve lost all respect for KSU and their fans.
