Tough News for Texas
-
“Texas star guard Andrew Jones was diagnosed with Leukemia and has started treatment, per a release. Terrible news out of Austin.”
KU recruited Andrew… Wish him the best with his treatment
-
That is a tough break for any one. I hope things work out for him.
-
At least now they know what they are dealing with and, hopefully, he gets the needed treatments to beat this. Tough kid.
-
My 14 year old nephew is battling it right now. The good news, not great news, but good is it’s about 85 percent beatable now, so he has a decent chance of beating it.
-
Prayers up.
-
I knew when they didn’t want to say why he was out with an illness that it wasn’t good. Prayers to the Jones family.
-
@BeddieKU23 Just sad for anyone, especially young people.
-
Best regards to him.
-
@wissox My wife’s best friend’s nephew just beat it - after a little over a year’s worth of treatments at KU Med Center. It’s do-able for sure.
-
@nuleafjhawk Depends on what kind, we lost a niece at 14, she died within a year of diagnosis.
-
@Barney I’m very sorry to hear that.
-
didn’t see you had posted this three hours ago , while I posted an hour ago ooops - -at any rate such a sad situation, started treatment - hoping he can recover cancer is ugly ugly - -lost so many family members GOD SPEED
-
Horrible thing to happen to anyone. I wish him good luck with his fight.

Unfortunately and as much as cancer medical treatments have improved, I don’t believe you ever get a complete cure. Much like they say about drugs, you don’t get a divorce from the disease, only a temporary separation the length of which depend on how fortunate you are. My sister in law had breast cancer and the did the the radical mastectomy and even the bone marrow transplant treatment and she was cancer free for 6 years and then it came back and she was gone in a few months. I do have other friends that are still cancer free after many years but they all live with the thought it could come back. It is really a tragedy that we have not found permanent cures when it affect every segment of our society. The cynic in me sometime thinks that there is too much money involved in the treatments, money that would be gone if a cure is found.

Tough news for Jones as he’s a helluva player. Hope you Hook Cancer to use UT’s expression.
-
Very sad to hear, hoping he can beat this for sure. – Now also totally not rELATED on the personal person side but also - -on the basketball side for Texas not only have they lost Andrew to this ugly disease - they also have lost Roach with a fractured hand - mercy, out indefinitely. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Well they announced the outcome today, not sure when he started treatment. - I knew he had been out with a fracture played just a little against us, but - not really sure when they found out.
As you would expect Texas playing a really inspired game tonight - had a really nice piece on him at half time of their game - wishing the best. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Leukemia is one you can survive if it’s the “correct” kind hodgkins lymphoma has a high survivor rate (90% but not 100). Unfortunately my brothers good fried had non-hodgkins lymphoma and didn’t make it past his sophomore year in college. It can be extremely aggressive. I hope this young man has a good prognosis. He has a tough road ahead of him.

@Jayballer54 I meant roach

Texas got a big win against TCU; I bet it was an emotional game for them.

I’m not sure when that happened , they were just talking about it in the game said out indefinitely. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

This kind of thing puts life in perspective. Life much bigger than a game.

You nailed it. I was once so overboard on being a KU fan that I once lit a KU cap on fire after a season ending loss. I know? What a selfish disconnected person I was.
KU basketball is legendary, yet at the end of the day it is just a game. This is why I root hard for the Mitch so hard and is more than willing to excuse some of Newman’s poor play. These kids are living their dreams. They went for it. And here they are. Win or lose they are here. They are Jayhawks.

@DoubleDD was it on your head?

Thoughts and prayers to Andrew Jones… Hope his youth and great conditioning give him all the advantages he needs to defeat leukemia.
-
Also… thoughts and prayers to Andrew. Most forms of leukemia today are treated successfully… so let’s hope Andrew’s will work out.
